LOCATION: Penthouse 7, 101st floor, Sky Palace. TIME: 1 AM.
Ha Joon walks into his apartment, his eyes widening, when all of a sudden two arms embrace him tightly.
Two very familiar arms; the arms of the heiress to SeroniX Tech and more importantly, his ex-wife - Analyn Soriano, the naive plutocrat, he didn't want to have anything to do with.
HA JOON: *Angry* What're you doing here?
Analyn doesn't respond, her grip around him only tightens.
HA JOON: What're you doing here? *Tugs on her arms sharply* I asked you what're you doing here, Analyn?!
Ha Joon can't seem to push her away, not without hurting her.
HA JOON: Fuck me Ana, get off me *roars in his husky voice* before I hurt you.
She tightens her grip again, erasing every inch of space between them, blurring the lines of where she stops and where he begins. Ha Joon curses himself as his body voluntarily eases into her embrace; It's the first time in months that some one has shown any genuine affection towards him. But it's the last person on earth he needed empathy from.
Analyn loosens her grip and leans back, her arms still wrapped around his neck. She runs her eyes over his tense face, noticing the dark circles of exhaustion under his eyes and his pale skin, drained of all energy.
Under her scrutiny, Ha Joon tightens his jaw, his frustration rising by the second. She leans in and hugs him softly.
ANALYN: *Sincerely* I know you didn't do it.
Reaching behind his neck, Ha Joon grabs her arms and shoves her away.
HA JOON: Which one? Assaulting the Secretary or selling the defense secrets of my country?
ANALYN: Both.
HA JOON: They have my freaking confession on tape.
He barks referring to the voice recording of him agreeing to give up the special chips of the new long-distance missile, being played on all news channels.
ANALYN: *Confident* I don't know how they managed that but I know you didn't do it.
HA JOON: *Still angry, walks past her* Good for you. Maybe they tampered with the video too, maybe I didn't assault the Defense Secretary.
ANALYN: I know you punched him.
He stops in his tracks and turns back, eyebrows furrowed.
ANALYN: But I also know that he deserved it. If you lost your temper, it would've been for a good reason.
Ha Joon stares at Analyn, lost in his thoughts as she walks past him and heads to the kitchen.
ANALYN: Dinner's ready. Hurry and freshen up.
HA JOON's POV:
LOCATION: Ha Joon's Shower
" I know you didn't do it."
Her voice keeps repeating in my head, as the hot water from the shower scales my back, it helps me release the coiled-up stress of this damned exhausting day.
I don't want to step out of the shower, I don't want to see her face.
There was a reason I forced her out of my life.
Why the hell are you back Ana? I won't be able to protect you.
My fist finds the wall, but it doesn't ease my frustration.
I delay getting out of the shower but I'm forced to step out, only because my stomach won't stop growling. I don't remember the last time I ate. Was it yesterday or the day before?
LOCATION: Dinning room.
A/n's POV:
Ha Joon unwillingly drags his feet to the dining room, the rumbling sounds from his stomach getting louder with each step.
His steps hasten as he hears Analyn's voice - she's on the phone.
ANALYN: Yes Omonim. I will take care of Ha Joon. You don't have to worry.
Ha Joon dashes into the dining room and reaches for Analyn's phone.
She raises her hand, which slams against his chest, stopping him in his tracks. Realizing where her hand is she quickly withdraws and pays attention to her former mother-in-law, rolling out orders to her over the phone.
HA JOON: *Angry* Stop talking to her. She's not your...
ANALYN: *Ignoring him* Yes Omonim. I will call you once Ha Joon has had his dinner. *Listens* Yes Omonim.
She listens till the call is disconnected and holds out the phone to Ha Joon.
HA JOON: *Angry* You're not her daughter in law any more. Why're you taking her orders?
ANALYN: *Smiles* Dinner's ready. Hope you like it.
HA JOON :*Unmoved* How did she know you were here?
ANALYN: You know how.
Mrs. Park always knew what happened at Penthouse 7, Sky Palace. Her knowledge of what happened in this house was so thorough that Analyn once even searched every inch of the house, damn sure that the house was rigged with secret cameras. It was a mystery that she had come to accept and learnt to live with.
ANALYN: Now sit down and eat something. I could hear your stomach growl from the second you walked in.
Ha Joon looks at dining table; glass noodles, sticky rice, and clam jjamppong, accompanied with pickled radish and kimchi. Deciding to continue the fight after he has fed his blameless stomach, he pulls out a chair and plops down, digging into the plate Analyn has set for him.
The hour ticks along as they eat in silence. Taking his last bite, Ha Joon sets his chop sticks down.
HA JOON: *Cold* I'll drop you home.
ANALYN: *Calm* No need. I'm staying the night. *Points to the empty dishes* You can clean this up right?
She gets on her feet and walks out without waiting for his reply.
HA JOON's POV :
I curse under my breath and follow her up the stairs to her bedroom.
Ana and I never shared a bedroom. We didn't decide it to be that way, I just told her that's how we would be living, and to my annoyance she accepted.
I never liked how she wouldn't stand up for herself. And now that I am fighting the biggest battle of my life, I have to get her out of here, I don't have time for babysitting.
I bang my fist on the door.
HA JOON: ANA! I don't want you here.
ANALYN: Good night Joon. *Her calm voice floats through the door*
HA JOON: Ana, come on!
I try a few more times, but eventually decide to give up and head to bed, it's been an excruciatingly exhausting day.
As I reach the end of the corridor and slide open the door to my room, I stop, hearing her open her door. I turn and find her leaning against the door frame.
ANALYN: Hey, Joon.
Her smile spreads to her eyes.
ANALYN: It's nice to hear you call me Ana.
I don't react. My poker face stays on as butterflies rummage through my stomach.
ANALYN: Good night. Sleep well.
She slips back into her room, sliding the door shut.
I stare at the place she was standing a second ago, well aware of the wide grin plastered on my face.
That smile is going to be the death of me.
