Arielle's POV:

"So do you see yourself with her anytime in the future?" Jaylin asked after I had told her everything that Ava and I spoke about.

"I just met her today. And you know I'm not really looking for a relationship right now." I mumbled looking at the floor.

"Come on Arielle, don't be like that. All summer people have been throwing themselves at you and you haven't given any of them the time of day. This is the first person I've seen you actually look like you want to be around without having to be forced." She said.

"I mean, there's something there, I'm not gonna deny that but..." I trailed off.

"But what Arielle?" Jaylin asked.

"I just don't know about it Jay." I said to her.

"Really Arielle? Because when I was looking at you two talk you looked happy. And that's the happiest you've been ever since..."

"Whatever Jay." I said.

"I'm just saying Ari. You don't see it but I do." She said.

"I'm not denying that. All I'm saying is that I don't know."

"Okay. Well on a lighter note my birthday party is going to be in 1 month!" She said.

"Wait what why didn't you tell me!" I exclaimed.

"Well you should've known my birthday is 1 month from today." Jaylin said.

"You didn't even give me time to look for something!"

"I think 1 month is more than enough time but don't worry, everything is prepared, I even got you a dress."

"Alright, what's the theme of the party?" I asked.

"It's gonna be a masquerade party. I'm so excited." She said clapping her hands.

"Why would you choose that as a theme?"  I asked.

"Because it sounds cool. Plus it has a mysterious vibe to it."

I laughed at that. "You're so stupid."

"You still love me though." She said, wiggling her eyebrows.

"You're right." I said pulling her in for a little hug.

1 month later:

"Are you up Arielle?" Jaylin yelled into my ear, waking me up from my very peaceful slumber.

"Leave me alone." I groaned an turned the other way.

"Come on Ari. You have to wake up." She said, shaking me.

"I'll just go tomorrow." I said flinging my arm to try and hit her.

"No you can't do that! Get up now!" She yelled and pulled me off my bed.

Thump

"What the hell is wrong with you!" I asked, looking at her as if she's gone mad.

"I didn't know what else to do. It was either that or water so be grateful." She said and walked out of my room.

Why is she like this? I thought to myself.

Having already been woken up and not able to go back to sleep, I got up and got ready.

"Aren't you excited?" She asked.

We were now driving to school.

"Not in the the slightest." I mumbled, and looked down at my phone because I felt it vibrate.

Ava🧡: Good-morning Arielle!

"Who is that?" Jaylin asked.

"It's no one important." I answered, shutting my phone screen off.

"Well the smile on your face tells me otherwise." She responded.

I sighed and said "It was just Ava telling me good-morning."

"Aww she's so sweet." Jaylin cooed.

I rolled me eyes laughing and said "Whatever. Happy Birthday by the way Jay."

------------------------------------------------------

Jaylin and I had just finished with our English class and were seated at a table.

"So are you ready for tonight?" Jaylin asked.

"Yea, you know I didn't really like the idea at first but now I actually find it very cool." I answered.

"I know right, we're gonna look so hot."

I laughed at that and she continued "Also I invited Ava."

"You did?!" I asked, shocked.

"Yea I thought here being there for you would be nice for you." She said.

"Well thanks Jay, I appreciate you for doing that."

"Um speaking of people I've invited..."

"What is it?"

"Well... I may have invited Jennifer..." She said, saying the last part quietly.

"What!?"

"Come on Arielle I had to she's my cousin." Jaylin said.

I sighed and put my head in my hands. Hearing her name brought up a lot of memories that I particularly did not what to remember.

"You'll still come to the party right Ari?"

"I don't know Jay, I don't think that I'm ready to see her yet."

"It's been months since it happened Arielle." Jaylin said, trying to reason with me.

"Just because it's happened months ago doesn't mean that I'm over it." I said, getting frustrated by the second.

I heard Jaylin take a deep breath then say, "Look Arielle I'm not trying to have an argument with you. If you don't want to see her avoid her, she'll be behind a mask anyways. You're my best friend Arielle, I want you there."

"Alright. When does it start again?"

"7." she answered.

I turned on my phone and looked at the time and saw that it was 3:30.

"Are we gonna have enough time to get ready?" I asked.

"Yea, because we're leaving right now."

"But I have still classes to go to Jay, and if my memory serves correctly, you do too."

"Well we're skipping!" She said, picking up her bag and getting up.

"I'm not skipping, college has barely even started yet. How would it look if I was to skip?" I asked.

"Well when you put it like that... I guess you can stay. But I took your car keys so have fun walking to the apartment!" She said and started running.

"Wait!" I yelled and chased after her.
