Chapter 06: Ochaco
That Midoriya guy was odd. Something about him gave her the chills. It all started back in the entrance exam for U.A. He saved her, he didn't even show a single ounce of hesitation when he plunged for that piece of scrap metal trapping her leg. Uraraka was grateful, really. She didn't even get the chance to thank him properly, he was gone as soon as he came.
Now, the quirk apprehension test followed, there he was! A bubbly smile landed on her face as she tried to thank him this time, but there was a rather loud blonde blocking her from even coming close to the white-haired teen.
"Fuck off cheeks!" she scowled at how brash the other student was. Seriously, who was he? Even from the first moments in the classroom, he'd hover around Midoriya like he was some bodyguard or something, ugh.
Midoriya looked her way and gave a knowing smile, he nodded in silent apology for his crass friend. Uraraka just beamed back.
Then his ball toss came up.
Sir Aizawa chewed him out. She didn't have the guts to say anything, under the threat of expulsion too, jeez. There was something about him that changed, Midoriya's smile shifted. Aizawa didn't even give him time to explain himself! Could she have done anything?
Then he used his quirk.
She had to shield her eyes, the gust that Midoriya was kicking up was strong! Jeez, it's like all her peers were powerhouses, she really needed to beef up if she wanted to k-
He swung.
The shockwave hit.
What happened next was a blur, she was launched away, wind pressure alone kicking her about. Thank God Sir Aizawa managed to wrangle her and a couple other people from being blown away.
Her head was spinning, Uraraka was coughing, wiping all the dust from her clothes and face away.
Midoriya's arms were broken, she was horrified.
She was horrified at how little Midoriya cared, he didn't even acknowledge his mangled limbs. Just looking at them made her want to puke. Midoriya was something else, Uraraka knew the moment she saw the serene face contrast with his bloodied up arms.
He confirmed that little feeling she had about him.
He was terrifying.
The day came and passed, the classroom was still alight with what had happened in homeroom.
"Dude, that guy's so fucking sick dude, my God." Kaminari (?) whispered in their little clique at the lunch table. She was accompanied with a pink haired/ pink skinned girl, someone who's literally invisible, Kaminari, and the guy with the tape dispensers, Sero was it? "Dude the zero pointer, holy shit man." He added.
"I know right?" Ashido Mina piped up, "Dude's psycho I swear." She shook her head with exasperation. "Him and that Bakugo guy, jeez. Bakugo's all like rah! Gah! Fuck! Y'now? And Midoriya's all like..." Mina sat perfectly straight, giving off her best impression of the boy, which was just her closing her eyes in perfect posture and gave out her softest smile. "Right. Right?" the others agreed, ugh. Uraraka wanted to say something, but she didn't really know anyone did she?
"Gotta hand it to class rep though, helluva quirk." Sero was rubbing his chin, everyone at the table just nodded.
Lunch came and gone, she was giddy about the next subject though, and judging by her classmates they were giddy too! Finally, heroics practical!
The door opened.
"I'm here!" it was All Might. Oh my God it was All Might.
The classroom burst with cheers, gah! This was so exciting!
All Might gave them a beaming smile before he pressed a button on a little remote. Suddenly, panels by their chairsides opened up, revealing their suitcases. OMG our hero suits!
"Suit up little heroes, and follow me to ground gamma." YES!
Hmm, a bit tight. She fiddled with her suit a bit, ugh. Her measurements weren't quite right. Anyways... she looked over her classmates and... wow. WOW! They looked so cool! Sero looked like a sentai character, Jiro and Kaminari had like a matching outfit thing going on, and Iida looked so cool with his armor! She couldn't help but give out a grin, she was here. She really was here in U.A.
"Now listen up folks." All Might began, pointing towards a screen. "We'll be having combat training. Just a little test to see where you little zygotes are at in terms of prowess." Someone opened their mouth before All Might cut them off. "And no, noone's getting expelled." His smile faltered a bit, ah so he heard about what happened yesterday.
"It's a simple exercise, really. One team heroes, other team villains. Villains set up any precaution they can to keep a bomb protected, Heroes have special tape to capture villains. Heroes win if both villains are captured/ knocked out or they reach and touch the bomb. Fingertips, full palm. Villains win if both Heroes are knocked out or the timer runs out."
"Sir!" Iida raised his hand, posture perfect as always. "How will the teams be chosen sir?" All Might nodded, it was a bit awkward really, the way this hulking man went to the back of the room and wheeled in a box with... a sheet on it?
"We'll be drawing lots!" he beamed. Uh oh.
Uh oh indeed, Bakugo was scowling at her; they were Team D, she glanced down at the boy. Were those... grenades on his person? Please God let me live through this trial.
"Alright everyone, first match!" the class perked up. "Villain team: A! Versus, Hero Team: D!" Uraraka put her palms on her eyes and let out a weak squeal of horror.
Midoriya was on Team D.
Midoriya and Yaoyorozu, to be precise.
She glanced back at her two would-be opponents. And oh.
Oh God.
Yaoyorozu handed him a sledgehammer.
"I'm gonna die." This was it. Mom, Dad, I love you. Please remember me favorably.
Bakugo scoffed, grabbing her attention before he called his "friend." "Oi nerd!." He called Midoriya. A manic grin ran by his face, Uraraka was not in any way, shape, or form comforted by this. "Don't fuck up."
Midoriya just smiled back, nodding to the two of them.
Oh God, Uraraka just noticed his suit too. The stark white matching his hair, and the green lines matching his eyes.
He had grenades on his person too.
And iron pads on his knuckles.
Haha. I'm dead.
She resigned her fate and walked alongside Bakugo as they waited for the signal to start. She heard metal hitting concrete within the tall arena of a building, it was like she was back in her parents' construction company. The two were silent, waiting for the countdown timer. Bakugo was vibrating with excitement. And rabies, probably rabies by the way he was looking to fight.
"We-we should probably avoid Midoriya." She finally pulled herself together to say something, Bakugo just laughed at her.
"Go do that." Was his reply. "And I'll go rock his shit, simple? Yes?" Uraraka groaned, the siren wailed they rushed in the building.
Oh.
Oh.
All five stories had a large gaping hole through them, the walls torn down to show that all the floors had a bomb placed by what remains of their grounding. Uraraka faltered in her step, she looked down, her heels weren't helping in any way, what with all the concrete rubble on the floor.
"IZUKU!" Bakugo yelled, Midoriya was stationed on the ground floor, the blonde immediately launched himself towards the boy. Midoriya just smiled as he gripped his sledgehammer tight. Uraraka ignored the two, thinking that they just might have a chance if she could get to the bomb.
But which was the real one?
Yaoyorozu was stationed at the top floor, already putting up wires and glue traps all around herself. Uraraka touched her fingers together, barely managing to float up, what with the two psychopaths down below kicking up a storm.
"Did you really have to give him another sledgehammer?" she asked the villain. Yaoyorozu gave her an apologetic smile in return.
"Midoriya's very convincing." And so they clashed, her fingetips brushing up on some rubble as she launched the debris back at the other girl. My God, Yaoyorozu was a psychopath too, she made a gun. A gun! Albeit, a glue gun. But still.
Uraraka groaned, her suit sticky from all the adhesive and wires and gah! Rubble on her person. "One Minute left heroes!" the speakers blared on. She looked towards a downed concrete beam, maybe. Yaoyorozu glanced at the beam, looks like she catches on quick.
She launched herself, barely making it, narrowly dodging the razor wires and traps before she touched the piece of concrete and metal, levitation success!
She gripped the piece of concrete, praying to all the Gods above to give herself whatever Midoriya was having as she copied his stance. "You wouldn't." Yaoyorozu spoke, sweat dripping from her brow.
"Convince m-!" a sledgehammer narrowly missed the two as the boys launched themselves towards the upper floor.
"FUCKING NERD!" Bakugo yelled, his quirk jetting him up. He was sweaty, panting, and redfaced the moment he hit the floor.
Midoriya on the other hand look no worse for wear. A few scorch marks here and there, but the way he breathes; it's like he wasn't even fighting for nine minutes straight.
"30 Seconds!" oh God. Looks like even Bakugo was spooked by the announcement, Midoriya and Yaoyorozu were cornered as she and Bakugo started to give it their all.
Plus Ultra it is.
"Cheeks! Ammo!" Uraraka tossed a few stones towards her partner using her quirk. He promptly used his explosions to launch the pellets towards the two villains.
Midoriya was subdued, his movements tight and controlled, gone were the wild swings from the quirk apprehension test, and what replaced it was precise footwork and a tight grip.
He blocked most of Bakugo's shots, putting himself inbetween Yaoyorozu and the blonde, taking the briefest time to stop whatever Uraraka had in mind with a quick kick of rocks towards her face.
"Time! Villain team wins!" Uraraka sighed, her horror leaving her body with a long exhale of air. She needed a shower after this.
"Fuck you, you've been holding back on me you cocksucker!" Classy as always Bakugo, Midoriya just smiled back, Yaoyorozu smiled back, my God there were two of them now. And so the four of them walked down what remained of the stairs, ugh. Uraraka wasn't pleased with her performance whatsoever. But, what could she have done?
"Erm... My boy, please bring the bomb to building C." Uraraka blinked, they were on the first floor now. Midoriya just shook his head while Yaoyorozu giggled back, he dug around in the rubble and took out the massive- yet impressively paper mache bomb from beneath the debris.
It was there.
The whole time.
They never stood a chance.
Uraraka squealed in agony as her palms reached up to her face once more.
She wanted to cry.
