Chapter 05: Shouta

Ugh. This one looks like a nightmare. Shouta scanned the room, eyes locking onto a white-haired boy holding another one back from maiming one of his classmates. Charming, really.

"Quiet. All of you" well, let's get this over with then. "My name's Aizawa Shouta. For the next three years, I'll be your homeroom teacher." He began, noting how some students puckered up when he told them. "Next time I expect you to quiet down the moment you see me. Every second is important for a hero. And if you don't value the importance of time then I think it's high time to reconsider career paths." A few students straightened up at that, good. Maybe they'll actually be a decent batch this year. He grabbed some clothes from his podium and tossed it in front of the students. "Wear your PE Uniforms, we'll be performing a quirk apprehension test at field alpha."

Shouta could see their brain processing the command for a second before he took out his smartphone and set a timer. "Ten minutes, double time." Some actually got up and scrambled, while some (The Iida bloodline brat) stayed and questioned him.

"But sir, orientation." He asked, Shouta just rolled his eyes and pointed back to the timer.

"I don't care."

The wait was short, surprisingly. They only took eight minutes before he could estimate that the whole class was here. His eyes roamed back to the white haired kid's direction. "Midoriya Izuku, up front." Nedzu's little student, he theorized. Toshinori's as well based on how much the blonde man looked at the kid. Jeez, at least it was slightly better than nepotism, he supposed.

Shouta sized him up, looking for any kind of reaction, little kids with big quirks were usually bold and brash. But this one. This one was quiet and closed in, and the way he wrangled the blonde kid's temper was a little concerning though.

He tossed a reinforced ball towards the snowy shrubhead, taking a quick glance at his classmates behind him whispering to themselves. "We're having a quirk apprehension test today, we'll be doing basic fitness exams, but this time you'll be using your quirks." He explained, already he could see a select few bouncing at the idea, overjoyed that they'll have the chance at showing off their flashy quirks.

"This look fun!" a Pink-everything(?) girl excitedly exclaimed, ah there it is.

"Fun?" oh sweet songs of terror. "You think this is fun? You are training to be professional heroes in the top rated combat-oriented heroics school in Japan, and you think this is just some kindergarten playhouse task?" Ah there it is, the majority of the kids reeled back in horror, he struggled not to let out a condescending chuckle. Good. The earlier these little creatures get their pride taken from them, the better. "How about this? Anyone who gets the lowest average is expelled. How's that for fun?"

He didn't need to look to get a glimpse of their dread... ah well, he took a glance, and indeed. Some even looked like they were on the verge of tears. Hmm, there were a handful that didn't even look phased. Better see if they mean business or if they just ride the coattails of their quirks. Fine, so be it.

He cleared his throat, grabbing the attention of the class. "Midoriya, you've gotten the highest score on the practical." A blonde boy perked up, ah. The loud one. "How far could you throw the ball back in middle school?"

The boy blinked, the whitehaired one turned his back almost as if he was asking the blonde one his score. "About 60 meters sir." Was his reply, Shouta nodded.

"Proceed."

Midoriya cocked his arm back, his limbs glowed with energy, lightning crackled and popped before settling on a low hiss, he took a second before he launched the ball. There was a shockwave of course, the dust and leaves kicked up as the ball left the locale.

That wasn't enough to destroy the Zero Pointer.

Shouta's eye twiched, holding up the sensor. The gall of this kid. "400 Meters." There were murmurs throughout the crowd. He huffed, this kid better have a damn good reason for holding back. If he thinks he can just ride the wave with his quirk, then he'll have another thing coming.

Recent discovery or not.

"Alright." He called the attention of the other students, he held out the result. "Now that you have an idea of what's to come, I expect you lot to give it your all on these tests." He narrowed his eyes, Todoroki, Bakugo, and Midoriya. What he's now calling the local academic nightmares didn't even bat an eye.

"All of you." He reminded. His eye twitched again, his gaze lingering on Midoriya. It was almost like he recognized that he was getting called out. The boy just gave him a smile in response.

The tests went much the same, some students did in fact posses a creative bone in their body, like with Kaminari Denki short circuiting the grip tester, or Aoyama Yuuga using his navel laser to propel himself through the long jump. But Shouta was starting to lose patience.

Now, Bakugo Katsuki was giving it his all, he could tell by the kid's hands getting rubbed red raw. Hmm, should probably let this one go to Recovery Girl soon. But the other two. Both Midoriya and Todoroki were severely holding back their power. Todoroki merely using half of his quirk, while Midoriya scaled back his power output immensely.

Though, he will admit. Getting precise scores on the machines were a feat of itself, it did not excuse him not taking this test seriously. Fine. So be it. The ball test was coming up once more. Time to scare the kids straight.

Midoriya came up for his distance test, he gripped the ball once more. Pitch perfect stance from before. "Midoriya, a word." Shouta cut him off, the boy lowered his stance facing the man.

"If you think you can come here and half-ass these tests while your fellow classmates are giving it their all. Then you're doing nothing but insulting everyone here." Midoriya opened his mouth, but Shouta was having none of it.

"And before you say that you've only recently discovered your quirk, no. That is not in any way, shape, or form a good enough excuse. We've seen you use your quirk in the Practical exams. You destroyed the Zero Pointer without a single scratch to show for." He saw the teen shut his mouth, the soft smile on his face replaced with a thin line, Eraserhead quirked his eyebrow at the attitude.

"If you don't give your all on this test, then I deem you a lost cause. All your classmates are doing their best, this is a test to see your limits, how far you can go. If you cannot even take a simple quirk apprehension exam seriously. Then I seriously think you need to reconsider your enrollment. Expulsion if you don't put a hundred percent in your ball toss, Midoriya. Take note." Shouta huffed, he could see the others turn their heads and whisper to themselves. So what. Little kid with a big quirk couldn't take on criticism, fledglings needed to learn to show what they've got. Before they get killed on the field.

"Now, perform." Midoriya took a moment, he paused, walking his way to another one of his classmates. Yaoyorozu Momo it seemed. He whispered a few words to her, Shouta just stared at them. She... appeared to use her quirk to make an item, the girl reluctantly gave the item to Midoriya.

A sledgehammer, she gave him a sledgehammer. The boy walked back to the circle. "Is this allowed, Sensei?" the calm tone had turned ice cold, looks like Bakugo wasn't the only one with anger management issues it seemed. But so be it.

"I'll allow it, now stop dilly dallying." Midoriya just closed his eyes and nodded. He took a deep breath. One hand, the ball, the other, the hammer.

Inhale.

Exhale.

Inhale.

Exhale. The boy tossed the ball up, higher than normal, quirk enhanced no doubt. Shouta watch the boy immediately reel back, both hands gripping the handle. His knuckles turned white from the pressure.

Power roared.

Dust kicked up, winds blew, some students covered their eyes from the kickback. Shouta could barely even see it from shielding his eyes.

Midoriya's arms were glowing, the lightning on his limbs screaming from the energy being unleashed.

The ball fell, his arms still held back.

Then he swung.

On pure instinct, Eraserhead swung both ends of his capture gear, grabbing a few students and latching onto a streetlight. It took a significant amount of effort to hold on to both the pole, and his students.

Midoriya was done, smoke emerging from his arms while students were still recoiling from the kickback of his quirk. Shouta rubbed his eyes, a few grains of sand and dirt strayed their way in. "Is everyone alright?" he asked the students. Honestly, did this boy know no safety?

Midoriya's arms were still smoking, the boy was standing, unmoving like a stone as looked back at Shouta. "Is this what you wanted?" his soft voice was like a knife cutting through the groans of pain and whiplash from his fellow classmates.

The white-haired teen showed his arms, the smoke finally clearing. Violet, mangled, uselessly limping by his sides. "I was simply trying to explain that my body cannot currently handle my 'a hundred percent', Sensei." Was his only remark.

Shouta groaned and pinched the bridge of his nose. Of course. He looked back at his other students, noone seemed injured. A little dusty sure, but no injuries.

"Fine." Was all that he replied. "Bakugo, Midoriya, Recovery Girl. Now." Bakugo nodded. Grumbling, he led Midoriya back into the school proper.

"Six Kilometers." He announced to the class, showing the meter, they all went fish-eyed.

"And take this as your one and only warning. There's going all out" Shouta explained. "And then there's arrogance." He gestured to the two boys limping their way to Recovery Girl.

"When I say all out, I don't mean to the point of breaking your body. Our school motto is 'Plus Ultra.' It means to go beyond. But know this..."

"Don't take this as an excuse to batter yourselves when you think you can do more." He had to take damage control after what Midoriya had done. Not that the kids would take to his example, no no. "Good job everyone, I hope you've learnt something today. Lunchbreak, one hour, back to the classroom everyone." A few of them asked about the expulsion, he didn't need to answer, all he did was shake his head and reflect.

He had to snuff out that little nugget in the back of their brains that thinks their body can outperform anything.

They'll live longer that way.

The day was over, the tests were over, and Shouta sighed.

Looks like Midoriya kicked up a few rebels in their class. And it was all the more apparent the next day. Now, this activity was usually reserved for the third day of classes but, Shouta supposed that he needed a hand in wrangling these little creatures.

And of course.

Of course.

Of course Midoriya got elected as Class Representative.

Shouta's hands reached up to his face, this was going to be a long three years, wasn't it?
