Chapter 03: All Might

This... boy was a strange one. All might mused to himself. Watching the little green haired kid in a black school uniform cough out the slime that wrangled his body a few moments ago. "Are you alright my boy?" 20 minutes left, 20 minutes left before he'd go kapoof. Better wrap this up quick.

"I'm fine..." the middle schooler (?) replied, taking out a handkerchief from his pocket and politely wipes his face and uniform free of slime.

That slime villain really took a while to find, snaking his way through and through the pipes and sewers, Damnit, it took too much of his time. "Your notebook, young one." He flashed a beaming smile back to the kid, gently tapping the piece of stationary on the little boys chest. He looked sheepish, the kid murmured out a thanks before gently taking back his notebook.

"I must say, you have a good eye for drawing." The kid just rubbed the back of his neck, unused to the praise. "And I'm mighty proud of you taking my good side!" All might bellowed out a laugh, hands to his hips, chin up, eyes to the sky. Perfect hero posture, A+.

"You signed it? thank you." 17 minutes! The kid was polite, don't mistake it. But oh my lord did he like taking his time! The little shrubhead took a soft bow giving him his heartfelt thanks and a small smile, ah the joys of civvies.

"Well now. Stay safe young one!" another sparkling smile and a thumbs up. "Better get doctor sewer-" the hero pointed to the slime villain encased in a soda bottle "back to the police station!" he let out one last hero laugh before securing the villain in his pocket, damn Velcro can't reach it, oh well.

"Till next time little hero." He gave a straight salute back to the middle schooler (?) a mighty squat did All Might do, and he lept through the skyline "And stay in school!" he gave one last nugget of advice before launching off.

14 minutes left, not bad. Could've been way better though, he landed on the top of an abandoned building ugh. Better save time and just walk from here. He deflated in a wreath of smoke, gone was the tall muscular figure of all might. And there standing was the lanky figure of Toshinori Yagi.

He coughed, blood leaking a bit from his mouth, he wiped his mouth with his forearm. Yagi blinked, there was something in his shirt pocket... it was the handkerchief the boy he just saved used. Wait, no slime. It was a fresh one. Aww, fan give outs. Toshinori just smiled while wiping the blood off his forearm and making it down the stairwell.

... huh. His pocket was a lot looser than he imagined it. In fact there was no weight in it at all. He glanced down, the bottle prison completely gone from his trousers. A loud bang! Through the street led him scrambling to the rails of the rooftop.

Ah shit, of course...

He peeped down in horror. The slime villain took someone hostage, there were heroes all around, something-something giant lady, Deathsgoro, Kamui Woods, and another hero he forgot the name of were holding back the civilians as the slime villan thrashed another middle schooler around. The kid was throwing explosions left and right, jeez a big quirk. Toshinori scrambled down the stairs, running his way across the street. He could barely cut through the crowd, they were so packed watching the kid struggle through the villain.

He stopped, heaving through and struggling from keeping himself from coughing out blood again. He saw a familar head of green hair in front of him. It was... strange, he couldn't keep his eyes away from the kid, the whole crowd was moving about, crying for the middle schooler under hostage, yelling, begging for the heroes to do something.

It shamed Toshinori, truly. These other heroes couldn't do anything, too close, the perp had him in too tight. Toshinori glanced back to the greenhead. He was off, compared to the crowd. Still, calm like a stone. While the other civilians were thrashing about, he was just watching. Until the boy was slowly backing up.

Toshinori was gently shoved back a bit by the boy, deeper into the crowd. Until the middle schooler jumped into action.

No! The emaciated hero grabbed the boy's wrist, surprised at how the kid just forced his hand back from him, the heroes yelled back. He ran, the middle schooler ran low to the ground, taking off his blazer.

Shit!

Toshinori tried to shuffle into a nearby alley to puff up and deal with this, he wasn't going to let another civilian get hurt by his failures. But he stopped, his sunken eyes widening, watching the boy dodge the tendrils of sludge lashing about, the explosions blowing through, even the heroes that tried to stop him. He just ran.

Toshinori stood still. The boy took his jacket and smothered the "face" of the sludge villain, getting thrashed about while the villain pried and tried to get him off.

Until the boy took out a box cutter from his pocket.

In one swift strike, he impaled it back into the jacket covering the villain, gasps and yells tore across the crowd. He slashed through diagonally, his face showing nothing but frustrated focus. The villain screamed, letting loose the two boys. It was over just as fast as it started. The heroes rushed over, both middle schoolers scrambling back into the crowd as the sirens of the ambulances and firetrucks drowned out the mass of people.

That was...

"Highly irresponsible of you young man! There were heroes. Heroes! On the scene. Could you imagine how hurt you two could've been?" Deathsgoro chewed the green haired kid out while the other heroes led the blonde one to the ambulance. "I cannot, and I'm putting this lightly, even comprehend how much of a risk that was young man!" Toshinori just watched the exchange, rubbing the old scar riddling his torso. He felt shame, truly he did. Not just for himself but for all the heroes around him.

All that firepower, all that brute strength and skill, honed by years of experience.

Just to be one-upped by a snotty middle schooler.

"S'not like you were doing anything." Ice. All the young greenheaded boy had for the hero was cold contempt. The boy's face was neutral, his mouth a thin line. Toshinori had a bit trouble seeing it, all the civilians moving about, but he could see and hear the conversation the two were having.

"He was suffocating. A minute more and..." he just shook his head, starting to gather his dropped belongings. "Nevermind." The muscleheaded hero just kept yapping and yapping to the kid, jeez man.

So, Toshinori followed the boy.

As bad as that sounds, something... something about him felt familiar, like he's seen him before. Somewhere. There was this strange pull to the boy, it's like... it's like he's met him before.

He followed him through the roads, the neighborhood, the streets, until finally the boy stopped by a quiet suburb, and without turning his head spoke softly. "Yes?" he asked, urgh caught.

Toshinori let out a sheepish laugh, awkward. "I-uh, saw you from that villain attack." Great start Yagi, A+.

The boy finally turned to face him, letting out a soft sigh, "I'm sorry for that commotion then." Uhh- how was he going to continue this conversation, Lordy did none of the interviews do anything for him? "I'll be going then, sorry."

"Wait my boy! I wanted to ask you something." Before the kid could turn heel and leave, Toshinori asked out. "When you ran straight for the villain... why'd you do that? There were heroes, backup was on the way... why?"

The boy just squinted back at him, observing him, like he was picking out what answer to give him. Oh that was just thinking.

"Why not?" a small shrug, "He was gonna die. Couldn't just let him, started moving before I knew it." Yagi smiled back, confusion marred the middle schooler's face.

Yagi snickered before going onto a fully belly laugh. "Magnificent! Amazing my boy, truly!" Toshinori continued to guffaw. "You know, all great heroes have that moment." Toshinori struggled to not let another 'you know' end that sentence.

"The time where thinking is just gone. Gone! And all that's left is action. Instinct." The hero opened his palm and clenched it into a tight fist.

"A heroes' instinct is to protect the innocent, save lives, and you my boy have the conviction, the will, the focus!" slowly but surely, a small smile crept up the kids face while Yagi's own beaming grin shined back. "And just a little bit of crazy here and there to move when no rational person will!"

"Why, thank you... I guess." he gave the hero a small nod back in reply, his notebook clutched tight on his chest.

"Young man..." Toshinori began, his palm open once more, gestured straight in front of the boy. "I want you to inherit my quirk." Toshinori almost missed it, but there was a flash of concern, recognition? On the boy's face.

"Thank you..." the boy gave a curt bow through his gentle smile. "Thank you, All Might."

What.

"H-how did you know my boy?" oh jeez, did he transform somewhere with people peeping about? Ah, shit.

"You wore the same clothes... When you saved me, I mean." The middle schooler replied.

Oh.

"You have the same laugh."

Creepy.

"You have the same accent."

Toshinori shook his head, embarrassed. He crossed his arms back at the boy. "Alright alright, I get it jeez. I'm not the best with disguises, lord. Give me a break." The boy just giggled back at him, cheeky little brat. "What's your name, kid?"

"Midoriya Izuku, no jokes please." Wow. Greeny Mc Green. Toshinori just chuckled and gave him a good pat on the back.

"You're my disciple now, young man." Another pat on the back. "Your quirk?"

Izuku just shrugged while shaking his head. "Quirkless, sorry." Toshinori hummed in thought, ah hell. How was he gonna cover this up? "I should probably tell mom." The boy fished out his phone before the hero snatched it up.

"Tsk tsk Midoriya. This is a secret above secrets. You can tell noone about this." Toshinori waggled his finger in front of the boy before tossing his phone back to him. "Decades, people have discussed and debated about my quirk. What do you think will happen if it comes out a lonely, very murder-able middle schooler just inherited the quirk of the Symbol of Peace?"

"Mom'll raise hell if she finds out." His protégé curtly replied. "My friend'll raise hell if he finds out. The blonde one from a while ago, sorry." Toshinori blinked, and promptly pinched the bridge of his nose and groaned. What part of grave secret doesn't the boy understand. "My dad'll definitely try to kill you, if he... y'know." Another groan.

"Fine. But just your mother my boy, capisce?" hey, at least it'll help out the cover story tremendously if the mother knew.

Izuku gave the emaciated man a smile. Ah to hell with it. Toshinori ruffled his new disciple's hair. "I'll contact you tomorrow about the workout routine, diet, and sleep schedule, alright? My quirk's a feisty one, better get you up to shape before passing her on."

"What's it called?" Izuku asked. There was something behind those eyes Toshinori swore that he recognized those eyes somewhere.

The hero just smiled.

"One for All."

>BREAK

And so, the months passed. It was wonderful! Midoriya was a wonderful kid. His mom... debatably so. All nice up front, but threatening disembowelment if anything happened to her precious peridot. Yeah nope, not going back there.

One month turned to two, two became three, and so on and so forth.

It was amazing! Toshinori discovered that Izuku was already on a diet and did martial arts prior to meeting him. Although he'd admit, cleaning up trash piles off a beach surely was a stroke of genius. Free from prying eyes, soft sand to break falls, (ignore the tetanus), and best of all: community service! Truly a multifaceted plan from one of greatest minds/philosophers out there, All Might.

But there was something strange with his little disciple. He almost thought it was a trick of the light most of the time. But now he could see in full that Izukus' hair was... turning white?

"Schedule's pretty full... don't have time to dye it with mom." Ah there it is, the boy explained that his white hair came from his father's side of genes. Speaking of fathers; All Might learned that Izuku's dad was somewhere in fuck all America. Something about a grave injury way back a few years ago, hospitalized but still bringing in that bank. Strange.

His mother just shrugged it off too, said that Hisashi practically owned his own company over there, personal doctor and all. He didn't think his little student was one of the elites. But hey, money wasn't going to be a problem he supposed.

And so the final day came, a week ahead of schedule too, the last piece of trash hauled onto the truck as Toshinori observed with swelling pride at his disciple.

The lean little twig of a boy grew into a slightly beefier stick. Toshinori plucked a single strand of hair off his own head, taking his time to look at the beautiful beach revealed by months of hauling trash out. He took a step towards Izuku, chest puffing with pride. "My boy..." he began.

"You've continued to show your dedication and will to the heroic path. Not a peep or complaint from your grueling training." He held his hand out, showing the strand of hair to the boy. "It's time."

Izuku just smiled back at him, that gentle grin putting a goofy smile on the hero's face. "Don't choke on it."

After an, honestly, gross display of Izuku swallowing the strand and immediately downing an entire bottle of water. His (snowy) shrubheaded protégé took a few moments to catch his breath. "Take it easy my boy." He gingerly rubbed Midoriyas' back. "It'll take time for One for All to jumpstart in your system." The golden blonde reminded the boy.

"Excuse me for a bit, let me try something" Izuku broke away from his mentors touch, standing by the shore of the beach. Toshinori just watched confused as Izuku took deep breaths.

Inhale

Exhale

Inhale

Exhale

He watched the boy's chest rise and fall before a screeching wail of power jostled the sand and waves behind him. Toshinori yelled back at his student, rushing over to check. "Too strong." The boy whispered, mostly to himself. "It's wilder now..." Izuku took deep breaths once more, every second the aura of energy notching down before One for All settled to a miniscule simmer. "Better." Izuku gleamed back at him. In an almost out of character moment from his student, Izuku started laughing. Absolutely bouncing along the beach, kicking up the sand and water across the shore.

"My- My Boy!" Toshinori was so proud of his little disciple, running along side him and playing along to the middle schooler zipping across the beach. It went on for a few more minutes before they managed to calm themselves down. That big goofy smile on Izukus' face as he laid down on the beach sand didn't feel out of place this time. It felt nice, seeing his usually stoic disciple burst with energy. Toshinori knelt down to his level, giving a hand to let Izuku up.

"So young Midoriya." A cheeky glint on his smile. "How does she feel?"

Izuku gave him back his biggest grin.

"Like home."
