Soobin barely paid attention to the movie at all, hyper-aware of the pattern of Yeonjun running his fingers through his hair.
How much time had gone by, no one knew, although judging by the movie's progress, it had to have been a couple hours at least.
The girls lounged around the room, looking increasingly bored.
"God," one of them sighed, speaking out loud to whoever was sat next to her. "I just wanna fucking go home."
Soobin stretched a bit, although it was somewhat difficult with another boy cuddled up next to him.
He briefly glanced over at the other, who lightly smiled as he caught his gaze.
The younger immediately looked away. He had to. Because for some crazy reason, every time he saw Yeonjun's smile he found himself thinking that his canine teeth looked rather sharp today...
Soobin felt slightly flushed, his mind drifting to the dream he'd had once in Yeonjun's bedroom.
Yeonjun, kissing him on the bed, pointy canine teeth the cause of marks along his skin...
"Binnie, do me a favor?" Yeonjun's voice interrupted his thoughts, making Soobin flinch.
"Yeah...?" Soobin questioned, trying to sound as calm and disinterested as he could.
"Can you hand me that tea?" Yeonjun gestured towards Soobin's drink bottle on the grounded.
Soobin wordlessly handed it to him, and watched the elder uncap it and take a sip while he glanced at his phone.
Harsh banging sounded at the door of the clubroom, causing everyone to turn and stare in its direction.
"Come in...?" Yeji called out, questioning who it could be.
The sound of jingling keys in the door accompanied it swinging open, revealing the form of one of the school staff members, holding a flashlight up.
"They cut the power. Get your things, we're getting everyone out," the lady said, drawing attention to the dark hallway behind her.
The students in the clubroom glanced at each other with concern. None had noticed the power anyway, as the lights had been off for the movie earlier.
Yeonjun and Soobin stood up from their seat, sharing a confused look as the pair grabbed their bags.
"Who the hell is they...?" Soobin whispered to the elder, who only shrugged in reply.
The whole group was herded into the hallway by the teacher, who guided them down the hallway and towards the back of the school.
"Is this... an actual evacuation? What's happening?" the blonde, Yuna, asked as she walked next to the teacher.
"I'm not at liberty to discuss it," the woman replied, the worried expression on her face suggesting that it wasn't up to her.
"Huh?" was all Yuna could say, glancing at the rest of her hurrying classmates as if to check that they'd heard it too.
The chatter in the hallways grew louder as other students appeared from the neighboring classrooms, most gossiping about whatever could be happening.
"Everyone!" came the voice of another teacher in the area, grabbing the crowd's attention immediately.
"You are all going to exit through these back side doors. Go directly home! If going home requires that you use the front road of the school, find a different route or stay with a classmate!" he ordered, gesturing for kids to go out the exit doors in front of them.
Soobin looked over at Yeonjun, who seemed to sigh at these words.
"Just stay at my place," he said. "It's a longer walk this way but still closer than your house."
Soobin nodded at this, but eyes landed on Yeji, who seemed to suddenly carry a terrified expression.
"Ahh, fuck," he muttered. He now remembered that Yeji's house happened to be on the exact street they'd just been told to avoid.
"You okay?" Yeonjun questioned as he heard this. He grabbed Soobin's hand, giving it a light squeeze to get his attention.
"Nah, I'm fine. Yeji can't go home though, I'm kinda worried about her," Soobin admitted, still watching his best friend pace nervously.
Yeonjun stared at him for a moment, his morals at war with his desires.
He let out a deep sigh, before saying:
"She can come over too, if she has nowhere to go."
"Really?" Soobin looked at him with a surprised, cute grin.
Ahh, seeing those dimples made the decision almost tolerable.
"Yeah," Yeonjun confirmed, still cringing at how awkward it was going to be. "You go ask her."
Soobin gave him a little thumbs up before scurrying off, patting on Yeji's shoulder to get her attention.
Yeonjun watched the pair as they talked, almost immediately regretting his choices as he saw Yeji's expression morph into one of complete and utter confusion.
She turned and made eye contact with Yeonjun as Soobin continued talking, and the boy only sent her a flat smile in return.
After a moment, Soobin waddled back over to Yeonjun, dragging Yeji alongside him.
"She said yes!" Soobin announced as he once again took his place next to the elder boy, not noticing the tension present between his two friends.
"Great," Yeonjun returned awkwardly, hoping that his hesitant tone wouldn't be picked up on. "Do you guys wanna get some food first? Or..."
"Can't we just order something? To be delivered?" Soobin pleaded, tugging on the cloth of Yeonjun's shirt.
"Of course, baby. Why not?" Yeonjun replied quietly, feeling Yeji stare a hole into his head after he said those words.
The trio was ushered out of the school building alongside the other students, who all dispersed in different directions.
Yeonjun gestured for the two to follow behind him, and he jogged over to the sidewalk of a back road behind the school.
"Do you think it'll be on the news yet?" Soobin questioned out loud, glancing between the two others he was with.
Yeji pulled out her phone, her nails clicking on the phone screen as she speedily typed something into google.
"'Radical demon group occupies city central,'" she read off an article headline, monotone.
"Says here that some demons barricaded the main highways or something."
Yeonjun seemed to take a moment to process this.
"What...?" he spoke, glancing back at her.
Yeji gave him a weird look. "What I just said. Some demons apparently stopped traffic and took over the roads."
Yeonjun gave a disbelieving laugh. "That doesn't make sense. Why would they need to do that?"
Yeji only shook her head at this. "Your guess is as good as mine. It's not like any of us understand how they think."
"I mean..." Yeonjun interjected. "It's not like they can think that differently from us. Right?"
"I literally just said I don't know," she gave him a blank stare in return.
Soobin, sensing the negative shift in the air, nervously laughed at this. "Well!" he interrupted. "I'm sure they have their reasons. We should just worry about getting home, yeah?"
"Yeah," Yeonjun agreed a little too fast.
So they walked in silence, Yeji using her phone the whole time. Soobin timidly clung onto Yeonjun's arm as they made their way down the streets, having to follow the elder anyway.
Despite only being a few minutes at most, it felt like an eternity before they reached Yeonjun's house.
"Sorry if my room is messy," Yeonjun apologized as he unlocked the house's front door. "I wasn't expecting anyone over."
It wasn't a complete lie. He hadn't been back since he'd slept over at Soobin's, and he honestly wouldn't have foresaw anyone else being in his room that week.
The door swung open, and all three stopped in their tracks as they noticed a woman sitting down at the dining table nearby turn her head.
"Oh—" she said, standing up as she recognized her son. "You're back late."
Yeonjun stared at her as he stepped into the house, Soobin and Yeji awkwardly following behind him.
"You're back early," he said. Soobin had been thinking the same thing, remembering that Yeonjun's mother was supposed to work the night shift.
"They cancelled for today," his mother explained, taking a bite from a bowl of pasta she'd made for herself on the counter. "Not like I could go to work anyway, the roads are closed."
Soobin set down his stuff at the doorway, timidly waving a 'hi' at Yeonjun's mother. She gave him a small smile in return.
"Now, I know the boys already, but who are you, sweetie?" the mom raised an eyebrow at Yeji, who fidgeted awkwardly behind her two taller classmates.
As the three got situated, Yeji walked towards the mom, politely shaking her hand. "My name is Hwang Yeji. Nice to meet you," she introduced herself quietly, Soobin almost laughing at how out of character she sounded.
Yeonjun shook his head to himself as Yeji seemed to begin chatting with his mother.
"Well," he announced. "I'll be in my room then. Mom, would you mind ordering some food for us? Or should I do it?"
"I'll take care of it honey. You three can go do whatever," she brushed it off, seeing that Yeonjun was already heading in the direction of his bedroom.
Soobin hurried after him automatically, too nervous to be left alone with the mother at this point.
Yeji glanced around as Yeonjun ushered the three into his room, naturally taking in the numerous decorations and items just as Soobin had the first time over.
"Welcome to my lair," Yeonjun said jokingly to her, catching the sight of Soobin running over to his bean bag chair and flopping down onto it.
"I have a phone charger over there. Bathroom is through that door, aaand... if you want hot tea or something just ask me," Yeonjun pointed in different directions as he spoke, finishing by gesturing to himself.
Yeji nodded in understanding, padding over to go charge her phone in the designated spot.
Meanwhile, Yeonjun dashed over to where Soobin lay on the beanbag, practically tackling him.
"Ah, fuck—" Soobin blurted out as Yeonjun's full body weight collided with him, the elder boy only laughing at it. Thankfully the beanbag cushioned most of the impact, and Soobin only gently flicked Yeonjun's shoulder for doing that.
"Binnieee," Yeonjun bugged him, poking at the boy's shoulders repeatedly to make the younger pay attention to him.
"Yeah?" Soobin said, not really able to look at him well due to the fact that Yeonjun was quite literally lying on him.
Yeonjun gently bumped his head against Soobin's.
"You wanna make a bet with me?"
Soobin pursed his lips, thinking it over.
"Sure. How much and on what?"
"Ten dollars. I think Beomgyu is involved in whatever's happening on the streets."
Soobin rolled his eyes at this. "Of course he would be. You want me to bet against that?"
"Beomgyu?" came a female voice from across the room, unreasonably startling both.
Yeonjun turned his head to look across the room at Yeji, who was staring at them. He knew she was probably judging the fact that he was literally throwing himself all over Soobin, but he also, truthfully, did not give a shit.
"Yeah. You know him?" Yeonjun tossed back.
Yeji nodded quickly. "Isn't he friends with Soobin? I think we're mutuals on insta."
"Yeah," Soobin mumbled from under Yeonjun. "She's seen pics of him."
"I think you're crushing him," Yeji commented, deadpan, glancing at Soobin squished between the beanbag and Yeonjun.
"So? I'm allowed to do that," Yeonjun said back, breaking his gaze away from her and looking down at Soobin.
"Right?" he spoke jokingly.
"Yeah," Soobin approved without thinking, intimidated by the sudden eye contact.
"I mean..."
"See? He agreed," Yeonjun stated.
"It sounded like he was going to say something else," Yeji responded.
"He definitely was not."
"No, I'm pretty sure he was—"
"Guys,"
Soobin interrupted, very confused as to what they were even bickering about.
"I'm literally fine. There's nothing to argue over."
Yeji and Yeonjun held eye contact for a moment, its tension challenging each other to say something.
"Honestly Soobin," Yeji spoke to him, "your boyfriend is kinda weird."
Yeonjun only gave her a glare for this, expecting Soobin to clarify that they weren't dating to Yeji and move on from the topic.
"Shut uppp," Soobin retorted, however.
"Your taste in men is way worse than mine."
Yeonjun looked down briefly at Soobin in surprise. He wasn't going to say anything to Yeji...?
"Hell nah, I've seen who you simp over..." Yeji commented, cracking a grin. "Don't make me bring up 8th grade—"
"Stop," Soobin whined back at her. In embarrassment, he buried his face into Yeonjun's neck, much to the delight of said boy.
Yeji only shook her head, amused, and wandered over to Yeonjun's bed, taking a seat on it.
"Do you mind if I take a nap?" Yeji asked him, pointing towards his bed.
"Go ahead," Yeonjun responded, absentmindedly reaching up to run his fingers through Soobin's hair. "I have a spare blanket in the bottom drawer of my dresser. If you need it."
"Alright," she said, reluctantly thanking him before lying down, making herself comfortable on the boy's bed.
As a few minutes passed by, her steady breathing signaled to Yeonjun that she'd actually fallen asleep.
"Mm, hey, Bin," he lightly whispered to the boy under him, who had his arms wrapped around Yeonjun's waist.
No response came. A quick glance down showed that Soobin's eyes were closed as well, and all Yeonjun could do was sigh.
"Dammit..." he mumbled, internally cursing at the two best friends for being so in-sync at this moment.
He leaned his forehead against Soobin's, wondering how any human person was capable of sleeping this much.
Yeonjun gave in, leaving a soft kiss on Soobin's cheek, around where his dimple was.
He closed his eyes as well, knowing there was nothing else he could do to pass the time but join them.
And thus the three classmates slept in the cozy room, safe from the outside world.
