Yeonjun stared down at the wood grain of his desk, feeling the world spin around him.
It currently morning, and yet another day of school was kicking off for the students of the area.
Choi Yeonjun, having practically forced himself out of bed that morning, became a professional actor in front of his mother when telling her he felt way better than the night before.
There was no way in hell he was letting her call his father over. He knew he could deal with it himself, and thus here he sat in his classroom, staring out the window in a daze.
"Good morning everyone," the teacher called out as more students began arriving. Yeonjun put his head down on his desk, closing his eyes.
All he really had to do was last through the school day. Whenever he was sick, it usually went away within 48 hours, and he knew his mother was making way bigger of a deal out of it than she needed to.
The light brush of a hand against his shoulder yanked him out of his thoughts.
Yeonjun sat bolt upright, gathering his composure in advance. He laid eyes on Soobin, who pulled his hand away, looking at the elder with slight confusion.
"Hey..." Soobin greeted tentatively, setting down his bag and books on his desk.
Yeonjun murmured a greeting in return, trying not to wince at the dull pain pounding in his head as he spoke.
"I, um, left the notebook for this class in your room," Soobin admitted sheepishly, realizing its absence in his bag. "Could I borrow...?"
"Yeah, of course," Yeonjun was already answering before the younger could finish. He leaned down to dig through his bag, pulling out the correct one and setting it on Soobin's desk.
"Thank youuu," Soobin gave him a tiny silent applause, before flipping it open and writing something on the header.
Yeonjun exhaled, briefly glancing forward at the board to see what exactly they were learning today.
And then it struck him that he couldn't see it at all.
Yeonjun stared across the room, holding his breath as he tried to focus his vision on the large words written there.
Nothing came into view, even as he squinted at it in a last effort.
He glanced at Soobin, seeing the boy occupied with writing. He internally rejoiced at this, not wanting to be questioned at the moment.
"Okay, everyone! Take out your laptops, I have a website you all need to sign up for," the teacher clapped once to get the class' attention, followed by the sound of everyone doing as told.
Yeonjun cringed at this. He didn't know what it was, but something told him that doing that wasn't the best idea for him right now.
Regardless, he obeyed, and set his laptop out on his desk. He swung it open, typing in his login as he simultaneously lowered the brightness of the screen.
Suddenly, there was two laptops in front of him.
Identical ones, somewhat merging into one another... as if both were fading in and out of existence in a dizzy blur.
In fact, there was two of everything now! The board, the desk, the lights...
A sense of panic crashed over Yeonjun as his brain registered that something was very wrong, and that he should not be seeing everything in a half faded, duplicated state.
He shut his eyes immediately, covering his face with his hands as to make it appear as if he was just tired.
Deep breaths accompanied his internal desire for it to stop. What the hell was wrong with him? Why were painkillers not good enough to fix it?
Thirty seconds passed by.
Yeonjun dared to peek open his eyes again, feeling the dizziness subside slightly.
Greeted with the sight of only one keyboard, he let out a breath of relief.
He'd successfully survived whatever that episode had been, and glancing around, it seemed none of his classmates had taken notice.
Except for one, anyway.
"Jun," Soobin whispered from next to him. "You okay?"
Yeonjun froze at this.
"Yeah!" he lied. "I just have a little headache. It'll probably go away."
Soobin looked at him with concern. "I have some pills? You should take one," he offered.
It won't work, Yeonjun said to himself. Yet to Soobin, he said,
"Okay, thanks."
He leaned back in his chair as Soobin fished around in his bag for the bottle. Even if he knew it would do nothing, at least it would satisfy Soobin's urge to help out.
Soobin held an open bottle of pills out to him, and Yeonjun briefly pulled one out and popped it in his mouth, taking a swig of water from his water bottle afterwards.
"If you wanna take a nap I'll do the activity for you," Soobin nudged him, glancing at the laptop on his desk.
Yeonjun blinked at this.
"Are you sure? It might be a lot."
"It's fine. Sleep, you need it," Soobin gave him a warm smile, persuading Yeonjun with it immediately.
"Okay. Thanks, mea columba," Yeonjun laid down against his desk, facing the wall.
"You still haven't told me what that means," Soobin mumbled, reaching over to access the assignment on Yeonjun's laptop.
Yeonjun either didn't catch this comment or flat out didn't care, because within a second he was passed out, peacefully breathing as he took the much needed rest.
Soobin lightly smiled at this. Maybe it was just his own insecurity speaking, but it did feel like somewhat of a compliment that Yeonjun felt comfortable enough to sleep around him.
He delicately brushed a bit of Yeonjun's hair out of his face, before turning back to his work. He didn't want to act too touchy in class, after all.
Soobin only sighed as he read over the assignment's guidelines, realizing it to be yet another boring set of questions that he could knock out in ten minutes.
Without Yeonjun awake to talk and therefore entertain him, he was left contemplating what to do to erase his boredom.
Maybe he could text Beomgyu? After all, seeing for himself how close Yeonjun was with the other, it certainly wouldn't hurt to get to know him better.
Soobin made up his mind, and snuck out his phone.
