Soobin padded down the hall, a tray of snacks in his hands that he desperately tried not to spill.
It was currently the late afternoon. Yeonjun and Soobin had gone to get boba tea as soon as school had let out, and eventually made their way back to Soobin's house.
After a while of chatting and finishing up their drinks, Soobin had opted to go to the kitchen and gather some snacks. Fifteen minutes later he found himself walking back over to his room, a pile of snacks in his possession.
Soobin struggled to open his bedroom door without spilling the food, yet got it after a moment of trying.
"Jun, I brought..." Soobin began, yet halted in his footsteps as he took in the sight of the other boy curled up on his bed, eyes closed.
Soobin stared at the elder for a moment, before scurrying over to gently set the tray of snacks on his bedside table.
Soobin sat on the edge of his bed, glancing towards the sleeping Yeonjun. Soobin swore he hadn't been gone that long... maybe Yeonjun had stayed up late the previous night?
Soobin shrugged it off. He leaned against the headboard of his bed and took out his phone, answering his DMs to pass the time.
The room remained peacefully silent. Soobin's tapping of the phone screen was the only sound heard in the warm room, alongside his occasional movement.
"Uhm..." the confused voice of Yeonjun came, the elder boy blinking as his consciousness returned to him.
"Morning," Soobin said jokingly. The other boy sat up instantly, embarrassment washing over his face.
"Shit, I'm so sorry," Yeonjun said, smoothing out the bedsheet where he'd been laying. "I didn't mean to, I just..."
"It's fine? Nap if you want, I don't care," Soobin laughed, not knowing why he would be so embarrassed about it.
Yeonjun only sighed, leaning back against the headboard like Soobin was doing.
"I'm awake now. I'm good," Yeonjun said, running a hand through his hair.
"I brought snacks," Soobin said, leaning over to grab the tray of said items. He placed it on the bed between them, making it easy for Yeonjun to dig through the pile.
"What do you wanna do now?" Yeonjun questioned as he pulled out a bag of candies, turning it over to read the ingredients.
Soobin shrugged. "I don't know. Play a game or something?"
"Alright. Twenty questions, you go first," Yeonjun decided as he tore open the bag.
Soobin paused, not expecting the sudden decision, yet a dull excitement told him to just go with the game.
He thought for a second, wanting to choose a decent question.
"Favorite song?" Soobin asked, starting off basic.
Yeonjun shook his head immediately. "Too many. I can send you my playlist, though?" he answered honestly. Soobin nodded in return, relating himself.
"Favorite memory?" Yeonjun took his turn.
Soobin paused, thinking over his options.
"Probably when me and Yeji went to Jeju a few years back," he recalled, one of the most fun memories with his best friend.
"Most embarrassing thing you've done?" Soobin asked, reaching a bit into the more personal territory.
Yeonjun didn't seem to mind. "Ah, shit," he started, a moment popping into his brain.
"This one time I called a girl by the wrong name while on a date with her," he admitted, Soobin's eyes widening at the thought.
"No wayyy," Soobin returned. "I think I would literally die."
"I know right? Thank god it didn't last, I wouldn't be able to live that down," Yeonjun joked, popping one of the gummy candies into his mouth.
"What blood type are you?" Yeonjun asked, glancing at Soobin.
"Type A, maybe?"
"You don't know?"
Soobin shrugged. "I don't remember what it was, I haven't had it tested in years," he explained.
"Hm. I'm Type A, I got some bloodwork done at the doctor's last week so I know," Yeonjun said, folding the bag of candy closed and looking through the other snacks.
"The doctor? You okay?" Soobin asked, watching Yeonjun read the label on a package of mini donuts.
"Yeah? Just a checkup, don't worry," Yeonjun dismissed it.
The younger chose not to comment. Soobin was pretty sure he'd never gotten a blood test during his checkups, but what did he know?
"Hmm. How many exes you got?" Soobin asked, not knowing where his momentary boldness came from.
Yeonjun thought about it seriously. "Around seven? I think?" he said, counting off on his fingers.
"Really? Who usually ends it? That seems like a lot..." Soobin started.
"It's my turn to ask, Bin," Yeonjun reminded, giving him a coy smile.
"You believe in astrology?" Yeonjun asked, shifting his sitting position ever so slightly to face Soobin as he talked.
Soobin shook his head. "Not really. Why, do you?"
"Is that your question?" Yeonjun spoke, almost causing Soobin to groan at his behavior.
"Fine, yes. Do you believe in astrology?" Soobin inquired begrudgingly.
Yeonjun shrugged. "I used to be really into it. I learned how to palm read and everything," he admitted.
"Palm reading? That sounds cool, you remember how?" Soobin asked.
Yeonjun nodded eagerly. "You want me to show you?" he offered, holding out his hand.
Soobin, although wary, held out his hand to the elder, who gently took it into his own.
Soobin was surprised by just how warm Yeonjun's hand felt. He didn't know if it was just his own imagination making it seem that way.
"Okay, so," Yeonjun started, holding the back of Soobin's hand. "This," he traced a line across Soobin's palm with a finger, "is the heart line."
"These," he continued, tracing four more lines across the palm, "are the head line, sun line, fate line, and life line."
Soobin nodded, trying his best to listen despite feeling a bit distracted from the way Yeonjun held his hand so lightly.
"The length, curve, and depth of each of these are said to determine certain things about you. Want me to take some guesses?" Yeonjun smiled, raising an eyebrow.
That smile could probably make Soobin agree to anything. "Try it," he said.
Yeonjun brought Soobin's hand closer to his face.
"Let's start with the heart line," he said, lightly tracing a finger across it. Yeonjun stared at it for a moment, analyzing it from what he knew.
"It curves upwards. This means the person is more affectionate and caring," Yeonjun began, pointing as he spoke.
"The line is on the longer side. You believe in true love," Yeonjun stated, glancing up at Soobin as if to gauge his reaction.
Soobin nodded in confirmation, painting a grin across Yeonjun's expression.
"Also, it ends between your third and fourth fingers. You're more possessive of your partner, or more selfish," Yeonjun finished, looking back up at Soobin as if to ask how he did.
"I... don't know about that last one yet, but otherwise yeah," Soobin spoke, a hint of awe in his voice.
Yeonjun only smiled at him.
"We'll see," he said, turning his attention back to Soobin's hand.
Soobin couldn't stop the feeling of butterflies as Yeonjun kept talking, going over the numerous traits and aspects based on his hands. Soobin found himself only halfway paying attention, too focused on Yeonjun's face as he spoke enthusiastically about the subject.
Soobin glanced towards the hall as he heard the front door of the house open, followed by the sound of heels clicking on the hard wooden floor.
"Soobin? Are you home?" a woman's voice yelled out.
"Yeah, mom. I'm in my room," Soobin shouted back, hearing his mother set her belongings down in the distance.
"Alright honey, I'll be upstairs if you need me," she called, her footsteps disappearing into the distance.
Yeonjun took out his phone, glancing at the clock.
"Shit—" he swore, seeing the time begin to get late.
"I think I need to go, my mom will kill me if I stay out much longer," Yeonjun said, crawling off of Soobin's bed and grabbing his things.
"Oh— okay," Soobin responded, trying not to show the disappointment he felt in his voice. He subconsciously grasped the sheets of his bed, his hand suddenly feeling empty.
Soobin stood up alongside the other as he began to leave, following him as he walked to the door.
Before Soobin could think of something to say to the other, Yeonjun pulled him into a tight hug.
Sure enough, Yeonjun smelled just like roses. Soobin wasn't insane.
Soobin, despite his surprise, hugged the boy back, yet again noticing just how warm the shorter boy was.
"Bye Binnie," Yeonjun muttered before letting go of him. He walked to the door and looked back, giving Soobin a final wave before slipping out through the doorway.
Soobin exhaled, not knowing why he felt relaxed and disappointed at the same time.
He walked over to the bed, flopping face down on it as his thoughts overwhelmed him.
Something about Choi Yeonjun made Soobin's Brain malfunction.
