03: Coffee

Jungkook's POV

There's a coffee shop down the street from Jin's house that the boys used to go to when they were younger.
It's a place that the seven young men frequented in middle school, but it's been forgotten over time.
For one simple reason: being small and cozy and cute, it's a place where the school gang really shouldn't be seen. It could ruin their reputation to be seen eating delicate cakes while drinking expensive coffee, gathered around a small table covered with a lace cloth.
But Jungkook's had such an awful day that he's willing to risk it.
A little bell above the door rings as he pushes into the shop, alerting the staff to customers. It's almost completely abandoned except for a few lone patrons.
Behind him, Jin smiles excitedly as he inhales the coffee fumes. "I love this place," he sighs.
Grunting in reply, Jungkook leads their group to the only table big enough for seven, located at the front of the small area. They all spread around the circular table, talking aimlessly between themselves as they wait for service.
Jungkook absently watches the staff scurry around instead of speaking. He really isn't in the mood.
"Hey!" Hoseok's voice hollers across the table, indicating the youngest boy. "Isn't that the girl from school? The slutty one?"
All seven of them turn abruptly and follow Hoseok's pointing finger. Sure enough, there's Choi Y/N, wrapped up in a delicate lace apron and moving slowly in their direction.
Yoongi laughs. "How the heck is she working? Your girl definitely broke at least one rib, Kook. I heard it crack."
He did too.
Jungkook grins at the girl who hasn't noticed their presence yet, formulating a plan in his mind.
How should he torture the selfish little nerd today?
Dump his coffee all over the pretty white table cloth, so she'll have to clean it up? He doesn't know why she's still working when she had a broken rib, but that won't stop him from giving her what she deserves.
Punishment.
Mina was devastated by the breakup that this girl caused last year.
He still can't believe that the seemingly-innocent girl managed to somehow seduce Sehun and wreck their relationship.
"What can I get for you today?" Y/N still hasn't looked up to see who she's serving. Her voice is fatigued and strained, like she hasn't slept for days.
But what Jungkook can't stop staring at is her mouth. It's odd how, out of all of the bad things that have happened today, the one bright spot in his day involves Choi Y/N. Of course, half of the bright spot is the satisfying crunch of her computer hitting the floor behind him, but the other half...
Her defiant eyes that pick at his temper, defending the pretty exchange student that Mina had been after. Her comforting arm around the other girl's small shoulders.
Her soft body catapulting into his as her full lips smash against his mouth.
He can't quite get that last part out of his mind.
"How about another taste of those lips, miss slut?" Jungkook purrs. "I heard you give them out pretty easy."
At the sound of his voice, Y/N's shoulders go tense. Her entire body becomes tight and on edge, her hand curled around the order pad turning white as she clutches it.
Instead of responding to his statement, Y/N whispers again, "What would you like to order?"
Jungkook's about to make another nasty comment when Jin slaps a hand over his mouth.
"Shut up, Kook. I'm thirsty." Jin smiles at Y/N and orders, eyeing the other six boys to imply that they do the same.
Obeying the eldest, all of them refrain from teasing Y/N as they place their orders.
When Y/N finally gets back around to Jungkook, she screws her mouth into a thin line and looks at him expectantly.
Jin removes his hand from the maknae's mouth, quietly hissing to him, "Behave."
Staring at Y/N, Jungkook says, "I want coffee."
"What kind of coffee?" she asks through gritted teeth, obviously working to keep her patience.
"The most expensive kind you have," Jungkook answers with a mean smile.
She nods silently, writing down something on the notepad before gliding off to the kitchen.
"I don't get her," Taehyung points out sullenly, picking at the tablecloth in boredom. "Sometimes she's so quiet, but then she can turn around, look you dead in the eyes and tell you to go screw yourself. I swear that home wrecker is bipolar or something."
Nodding in agreement, Jimin mumbles, "And she looks so freaking innocent."
They all shut up as Y/N appears with their orders, balanced on a tray in between her two hands.
She gives Jungkook his coffee first, doing her best to avoid any kind of physical contact before starting to pass out the rest of the drinks.
Before she can set the food that Taehyung and Jin ordered on the table, Jungkook abruptly stands up from his seat.
His shoulder intentionally catches the edge of the tray she's holding, sending her and it wheeling backward. Y/N goes all the way down and, to Jungkook's ultimate satisfaction, the food goes with her. At the end of everything, she's sprawled on the floor with her hands clutching her ribs, covered in chocolate syrup and bits of cake.
When she recovers enough to look up, Jungkook makes sure that he catches her eye as he slowly pours the contents of his coffee cup onto the beautiful lace tablecloth.
His grin stretches his lips wide as he stares down at her from a standing position.
"Oops," he says with no sincerity.
"But my cheesecake," Taehyung whines, pouting at the white splatter across Y/N's left thigh that was once his precious food.
The girl winces, struggling to sit up as her little audience watches with amusement.
"Holy crap, Y/N!"
Another worker runs out of the kitchen to help the fallen girl, followed by a grumpy-looking man in a suit.
"Mr. Kang-" Y/N starts immediately when she sees the man, a desperate edge to her voice.
"That's the third time you've dropped something today, Choi Y/N," the grumpy man sneers. "I'm tired of your incompetence."
Wow, what an added bonus. He even got her fired.
"Please," she begs. Y/N gets on her knees and clasps her hands, rubbing them together.
Jungkook spies tears rimming her eyes, shocked that the girl is actually on her knees and begging to her boss. Where the heck is her pride?
Even he's embarrassed for her.
"No, that was the last straw!" her boss yells. "Now get out of my shop!"
No longer amused with the scene, Namjoon sighs and grabs Jungkook by the shoulder. "Come on, let's go," he tells the youngest
Jungkook reluctantly follows the others out, ignoring the boss as he simpers out apologies and excuses for their 'bad service'.
Lingering outside the door, Jungkook chews on his lower lip hesitantly.
He doesn't want to go home.
His father left for another business meeting this morning, one that's supposed to last for at least a month, maybe more.
Jungkook already knows what's waiting for him at his house; Uncle Kim.
The man is one of his father's closest a business partners and friends, and has been 'watching' Jungkook while his father is away for years upon years.
Unfortunately, the man doesn't hold the same affection for Jungkook.
Uncle Kim hates Jungkook from the very pit of his soul and has ever since Jungkook was born, because of one very simple, very unchangeable reason.
Jungkook's birth made him the sole heir of his father's company, kicking Uncle Kim out of his spot in the inheritance line-up.
So when Uncle Kim is assigned to keep an he in Jungkook while his father is away, he goes above and beyond his assignment, keeping a fist on him as well. Although it's mostly just verbal abuse, Jungkook's attitude occasionally get him a little more than a couple of bruises. The older Jungkook gets and the closer to coming of age he is, the more intense the beating have gotten.
When Jungkook was young he tired to tell his father that Uncle Kim was being mean when he wasn't there, but both men just laughed off his accusation as the rantings of a child.
Jungkook doesn't even try anymore. He just takes it and lets the anger of his mistreatment build up to a bursting point.
Then he goes to school and lets it out on people like Choi Y/N, people who deserve punishment.
"Come on, maknae!" Jimin skips backward to walk beside Jungkook, slinging his arm around the taller boy's shoulders. "Lets go home!"
Sighing, Jungkook reluctantly lets his hyung drag him down the road.
