AU: Dream Eater

Context: Sabre gets asked where Dream Eaters come from, since nobody really knows.

Wait this means he technically gives Orange Steve forbidden knowledge- well whoops guess it's dying with him

[3rd Person POV]

"Hey Sabre?"

"Hm?"

"Do... Dream Eaters come from somewhere?"

Sabre and Orange sat in the garden inside the Hub, next to one of the small creeks. It was just after sunset, the stars beginning to appear in the sky. Fireflies danced in the air.

Sabre looked at Orange with a puzzled smile.

"What do you mean?" He asks.

"Well- Steves are created from energy or another person. You said that Dream Eaters like you are living people similar to Steves, but are you created like we are or some different way? Or do you just suddenly exist?"

"Hmm, well..." Sabre hums. "We have trouble remembering it after a few eons, but we come from somewhere in space. Not even we really know how, but last time I talked with other Dream Eaters about it, it was narrowed down to either something in the stardust we're born from or there's something else up there with us. Then we find the closest habitable world with people that can dream on it, and hide somewhere for our bodies to start taking on an actual form while we leave them to look for any energies to start absorbing."

"Coooool... do you get to choose your form?"

"Not at first, no. We have to base it on anybody that passes by where our bodies are hiding, but once we fully form and have a little while to adjust to it, we can change it to anything we want. It's mostly so we can better blend into whatever species we landed near."

"So if you came to this world first, you could have started out as a Steve?"

"Probably! That'd be cool, I wouldn't get as many weird looks."

"...But didn't you say you can change to be whatever you want?"

"Oh, I just like this form. I don't care as much about fitting in rather than being comfortable."

"That's fair."

"Any more questions?"

"...Yeah, if you want to answer them."

"Go ahead and ask bud, I have all night."
