III. Blurbs

Rather than a one shot, this is a collection of Steve gifs with little blurbs. I'm bored, obviously.

To say Steve was insecure about removing his shirt in front of you was an understatement. He had asked you to go with him while he underwent the procedure that would make him the world's first super-soldier, but he was now embarrassed of himself.

He had been friends with you for his whole life, but had only began falling for you in the past year. He wasn't sure if the feelings were mutual; after all, how could you see him for anything other than your small, defenseless friend?

Little did he know, you didn't care about the fact that Steve was an inch shorter than you. You didn't care that you could fit in his clothes as if they were your own. You loved Steve; you'd grown to love him for his personality, for his perspective on life, and for his courage and determination to be a part of something bigger than himself.

Steve had fallen in love with you from a distance. You were not a superhero; you were not an agent; you were nothing special, in your opinion. However, in the year that Steve Rogers had been friends with you, you were more than that to him, though he never said anything about it.

You always spoke of how hard it must be for Tony and Pepper, and Thor and Jane, and Clint and Laura to be happy when they had to spend so much time apart. Steve didn't want that life for you, but it didn't stop him from falling for you.

He'd been watching out for you ever since the Ultron dilemma; he couldn't help but feel that you were going to be put in danger because of him. He was following you one day, unsure of where you were going, when he saw you meet up with a man—a normal guy. It was a date of some sort, and he hated admitting it to himself but it tore him up inside to see you with anyone other than him.

Steve had experienced better days than this one. Days like this always brought him down. He would often see something or hear something, and it would remind him of Bucky. You always felt sorry for him, though you knew sympathy would do nothing to subdue his pain. So, instead, you'd pull him onto a hug, his chin resting on your head.

Steve was the one who always made sure you felt safe and protected, but sometimes, it was you who had to reassure him that even in times of sadness, he was not alone. You were there for him, and you always would be.

•••

The first time you ever saw Steve Rogers, other than on you television screen dressed in his Captain America attire, you were quite surprised.

He didn't look like a hero; he looked broken. He didn't look proud of what he was; he looked like he was overridden with guilt. He didn't look invincible; he looked hurt.

You'd approached him, realizing that no one else paid any attention to the man in the baseball cap that stood staring at the Bucky Barnes tribute in the smithsonian. You realized, then, what kind of man Steve Rogers was. He was not cocky; he was not a guy with a big ego. He was simply a man, fighting for what he thought was right—and he'd lost a hell of a lot in the process.
