Your POV

You had just arrived back at Stark Towers and were about to run right up to your room when a familiar male voice caught you off guard. 

"Y/N where were you last night ?" Tony asked as he stood leaning against a wall, arms folded. 

You honestly were not expecting Tony to be there waiting for you like this. 

"Urrmm dad...hi sorry I went for dinner with a friend last night and stayed over at their place. Sorry I know I should have called or texted you or Pepper to let you know" You said hoping he would be okay with this and not question you any further but of course Tony being the over protective dad he is, decided to ask more about it. 

"Who were you with Y/N ? Tell me" Tony asked

You sighed in defeat and headed to the kitchen and sat down. 

"Okay dad I will tell you but you need to promise me you won't get mad" You practically begged knowing he might flip if he knows you were with Steve. 

You watched Tony as he sat down across from you. 

"Right......do tell me" Tony said

You took a deep breath before you said anything.

"It was Steve" You said

"Steve as in Steve Rogers ?" Tony asked as if he wanted or needed you to confirm it was the super soldier you were talking about. 

You nodded quickly before telling him about last night.

"He took me out on his bike to this really cute little restaurant for dinner and then we went back to his but nothing like that happened I swear" You said once you seen the look on Tony's face, you continued to tell him more about last night. 

"Back at his place he gave me a t shirt and jogging bottoms to change into, then I laid on his chest and listened to his heartbeat and he held me in his arms and I just felt safe and protected" You finished. 

"I just can't believe he took you out on his bike" Tony said rolling his eyes before continuing what he was saying..

"I guess as long as your safe and home safe and in one piece without a scratch on you that is the most important thing" Tony finished.

"Well as you can see for yourself I am fine dad and not even one scratch on me. Like I told you and like Steve said it was only dinner but is it okay if I just stay here at Stark Tower and work from here for a while rather than at the Shield base ?" You asked. 

You honestly wanted to avoid Steve for a while not feeling able to look at him. 

"No course you can, I'm not too keen on shield base myself" Tony said. 

"Thanks dad, I'm just gonna change out these clothes and go for a quick run" You smiled as you go up from where you were sitting.

"Okay, just remember and stay safe" Tony said as he got up from his seat. 

You smiled before going and giving him a hug. He hugged you back and quickly kissed you forehead. 

"I am always safe dad" You laughed lightly knowing he only ever wants you to be safe. 

You went upstairs to your room and changed into your running clothes. You made sure you had enough battery in your phone before heading out into the streets of New York on your run. 

Steve POV

I was out on a run with Sam. I couldn't stop thinking about the previous night. I haven't done anything like that in a long time. 

"How did you feel holding her ?" Sam asked knocking me out of my thoughts. 

"Really good actually, it's been a while since I've held a woman in my arms" I replied.

"That's good man, hey I'd just really hate to be you when Stark finds out you took his daughter out" -Sam

"Yeah well I know he is protective of her, she is his adoptive daughter" -Steve

"Yes he is very protective of her as most dads are and should be" - Sam

Y/N POV

You were out on your run, not really paying any attention to where you were running too. You weren't even paying any attention to anyone around you. Suddenly you felt your body collide with another as it hit you and knocked you over. You took out your earphones and looked up ready to shout and scream at whoever had knocked you over. To your surprise as you looked up, you were shocked to see that it was Steve. 

"Cap ?" You question

"Oh Y/N ? I am so so sorry about that" Steve apologised as he got up off you.

"Are you okay ? Did you hurt anywhere ? Is your head okay ?" He asked sounding very panicked.

"Yeah I'm fine sorry I didn't see you there Cap" You said as you stood up and rubbed your arms.

"Maybe just be careful and watch where your running next time" Steve joked with you.

"Yeah well thanks for that advice but I really gotta get going now" You said hastly before you took off running away from them. 

"Damn Cap what did you do ?" You heard Sam ask Steve before you took off.

As you were running along, Steve caught up with you cause there's absolutely no way you can out run Captain America.

"Hey Y/N why did you just run off like that ?" Steve asked you sounding a bit confused

"Because I'm a busy girl and I need to get back to the Stark Tower, shower then get ready for work" You replied

"Why don't you let me take you home ?" Steve offered

"Steve I am fine and I can manage very well on my own" You replied

"Is this about last night ? Did I do something wrong? Do you regret anything that happened during our date ?" Steve asked and you could sense the worry in his voice and tone.

"I regret nothing about last night just seems funny you calling it a date now after telling me it was only dinner" You reply

"But it turned out into a date though, didn't it ?" Steve asked you, you could hear the hope filling his voice.

"I don't know, did it ? Was that what you wanted ? Do you want to date and love and be loved ?" You asked.

"Yes of course I do" Steve said.

By this point you weren't sure if he was being completely honest with you and it was getting to you. 

"When your ready to be serious, come and find me" You said before you turned and ran off quickly back to Stark Tower. 

Steve POV

I stood where I was. I was both shocked and stunned at Y/N 's words. 

"Wow Cap that could have gone better, what did you do or say to her ?" Sam asked as he joined me.

"All I said to her was that the dinner we had last night, turned into a date" I told him.

"If I were you Cap, I'd try and find her before she talks to Tony and he hunts you down" Sam said trying to be serious but really he found the whole thing funny. 

"I will, I'll find her after work and talk to her then, give her some time to cool off" 

"Good Luck Cap" 

"Thanks Sam" I said with a small smile before we began our run again. 

Y/N POV

You arrived back at Stark Tower. This time you were able to run right upstairs, have a quick shower to freshen up. You put on some clean clothes once you were finished in the shower and got to work. You worked from Stark Tower just like you'd asked Tony. You pushed Steve out your mind for a bit and just concentrated on your work. As you were working, your phone began to ring. Picking your phone up and looking at the caller I.D, you saw it was Steve calling. Not wanting to get or feel more upset or angry you decided not to answer his call and just let your phone ring. You got back to what you were doing. 

However though, Steve didn't give up and called you again. You just kept ignoring his calls and let your phone ring. You finished what you were doing and took a quick toilet break. When you were making your way back to where you were, someone grabbed you and pulled you into a room. Whoever this was, had covered your mouth and you could tell they were strong. You heard whoever it was lock the door. Then you were turned around so you were facing the person. To your shock and surprise, it was Steve. 

"Please don't scream or shout, I just want to talk to you and find out why you have been ignoring me" Steve said.

"What is it with you and sneaking in here and covering my mouth ? And I haven't been ignoring you, I have been very busy with work" You tell him.

"It's what you said to me earlier just before you stormed off, plus I know you have had a lunch break...I know this because I do come here to Stark Tower to pick up things for Shield" Steve told you. 

"Oh you mean when I said about you being ready to be serious ? Yes you just didn't seem to care and you gave me mixed signals, it isn't funny or fair playing with my fee.....I mean emotions like that" You said.

"I do want to be serious....it's just that nobody ever cared about me back in Brooklyn. I used to get beaten up just because of how skinny I was" Steve tried to explain to you. 

"You told me that it was just dinner and then you said it was a date now do you see where I get the mixed signals ? Why I don't think your being seri-" You began to say but got cut off when Steve suddenly kisses you. 

You kissed back, causing Steve to deepen the kiss. You then wrapped your arms around his neck. 

"I don't think here is the right place for us to do anything" Steve said and you could see the slight blush on his cheeks. 

"No there is no privacy here at all, there's Friday here remember plus all the others, I'd rather wait and know that your serious about us first before diving right into anything" You explained.

"Okay I'll take you out tomorrow, as a date for the whole day" Steve said

"Okay Cap I'm already looking forward to it, what should I wear ?" You ask with a smile on your face.

"Just something casual will do" Steve said.

-Few Hours Later- 

You were finished with work for the day. Steve had gone back to work at Shield. You were sitting alone in your room, on your bed with a movie on. You weren't really paying attention to the movie and had drifted off into your own little world. You were so deep in your own thoughts that you didn't even notice Tony standing at your doorway watching you. 

"Y/N, you okay ?" Tony asked as he stepped into your room.

Suddenly you snapped out of your own thoughts. 

"Huh ? Oh yeah I'm fine" You say

Of course Tony being Tony and knowing you so well knew that this wasn't true. He came over and sat beside you on your bed.

"Come on kid, what's the matter ?" Tony asked as he put the movie off and turned the tv off.

You decided that you should just tell Tony what is bothering you and hope that he will be able to help you. 

"Steve is taking me out tomorrow for the whole day as a date but I feel nervous I really do like him a lot but I'm scared too you know ever since that night which no one else knows about, not even any of the other Avengers" You say.

"Look it is okay to be or feel nervous with any guy you date, especially with what you went threw. But remember Steve Rogers was born in the 40's. He has always been nervous with women but also he has always had the upmost respect for women. He has also lost a lot in life too and had to adjust a lot to this modern world. See how things go with him and if they go great and you feel comfortable talking to him about what happened then tell him, if you want me to be there when you tell him for support just ask or if you want me to tell him then just ask" Tony said as he held you close to him.

"No I need to tell him on my own, its best if it comes from me" You say.

You felt much better after your talk with Tony. You went and had dinner with him and Pepper then got ready for bed. You had text Steve a few times about your date for the next day. 

-Next Day-

You had gotten ready for your date and dressed casually just like Steve had said too. You were ready and waiting for him to come over and pick you up. You were still nervous. You knew you had to talk to Steve but you were scared in case he judged you or decided he wouldn't want to see you again. You didn't want to tell Steve before your date as you didn't want to ruin what he had planned for you but you didn't want to leave it. 

Steve called you to let you know that he was outside ans waiting for you. You took the chance and asked him to come up first. Steve agreed and made his way up Stark Tower to where you were waiting for him.

"Hey Y/N what's wrong ? Tony hasn't pulled you into work has he ?" Steve asked

"No it's nothing like that but we need to talk, I need to tell you something, something that happened to me in the past" You say.

Steve eyes you as he sits down. You feeling a bunch of nerves pace up and down.

"Y/N your starting to scare me, please just sit down and talk to me" Steve says. 

You sit down on the sofa next to him.

"Okay so a while ago, I was dating this guy, he was nice at the start, kind, gentle, loving everything most girls want. Then he started drinking heavily and got in with the wrong people, he started cheating on me. Eventually I had, had enough and decided that I was leaving him and coming back here to live. He didn't like that and he attacked me, he hit me, kicked me, battered me. I had my phone out ready to call dad, Tony, to ask him to pick me up. But Y/E/B/N hit me so hard I dropped my phone. I was beating so badly I don't know much about what happened. I was drifting in and out of consciousness. My call to Tony had gone threw to him and he heard what was happening. Didn't take him long to get over there. Tony got me out of there and rushed me to the hospital. I was in there for quite a while. I had broken 10 of my ribs and had some fractures" You explain to Steve as you closed your eyes wanting to get away from that horrid memory. 

"I'm glad Tony got you out safely and that your alive" Steve said. 

You turned to look at Steve who was looking at you with concern.

"Your not gonna judge me or say you don't want to go out with me ?" You asked.

"I'm glad you told me this, I would never judge you or anyone who has or had  been in this situation. You didn't ask for it and you were getting yourself out of it. Of course I still want to see you, I have spent so much time planning today but if you don't want to go then it's fine" Steve says as he holds you close and comforts you.

"I still want to go out with you and see what you have planned for us today" You smile. 

Steve took you to a public flower garden where you could walk around the place and see all different kinds of flowers. You were lucky as it was a lovely Summer day. He then took you to a local park but took you a bit further out by a lake. He had brought a picnic along with him and set everything out. You loved it as it was in a quiet spot. 

That night, you had gone back to Steve's place and the both of you decided to have a Disney movie marathon. You cuddled up to steve on his sofa, he wrapped his arms around you as he held you close to him. You felt safe and protected in his big stron arms.
