Party E-Invites
[Rae's POV]
As Rae and Skylar sat on Skylar's bed, Rae having an ice pack on her forehead, the two girls were talking when Rae's phone happened to buzz, Skylar's quickly following Rae's. Rae's hand drifted to her phone like it was an instinct, picking up her phone he clicked on the new notification. She looked up and Skylar had already noticed the notification. "An E-Invite... from a senior... named Kit." Skylar said, furrowing her eyebrows in frustration. "Why in the world would we, freshman be getting an E-Invite from a senior?" Rae asked, focusing on the screen of her phone, searching for some sign that said 'No freshman allowed.' But, there was none. "Skylar, should we go?" Rae asked, giving up on looking for any sign. "I guess.. anyway, I'm gonna ask my parents... You should ask yours." Skylar suggested. "Well, I'll text you after I ask my parents." Rae shrugged as she said this, not sure if she should go.
Rae set down the ice pack she had been holding on her forehead and got up, walking to Skylar's bedroom window. Rae shoved her own phone in her pocket and stood on a chair in front of the window. Skylar waved goodbye as Rae jumped out of the window, sprinting down the street until she came to a two story brown house and ran inside. As Rae ran into the house the door slammed behind her, alerting her parents that she was home. "How was your day Mija?" Rae's mother asked as she threw her backpack onto the couch. Rae's mother always called her Mija, it is the Spanish word for daughter. "It was fine Madre." Rae answered, making sure to use the Spanish word for mother. Rae walked to the kitchen and sat next to her mother, who, as always, was drinking.
As Rae had finished her homework while she had been at Skylar's house she had nothing to do, so she prepared herself for a possible loss of temper from her mother. "Hey Madre? Can I go to this... party that I got invited to?" She asked her mother, holding back a stutter. "Mija, after all, you are not a baby anymore. I guess I should let you live a little, so therefore... yes." Her mother answered this painfully, as if it hurt her to see her daughter a freshman in high school. "Thank you Madre." Rae said, thankful her mother did not lose her temper, as she normally did. Rae got up and walked to the living room and picked up her backpack, swinging it over her shoulder as she raced upstairs. She put her backpack in her closet and went through her clothes, she picked out a leather jacket and skinny jeans, all black converse and changed.
Rae picked up her phone, which she had placed on her dresser and texted Skylar.
Rae: R u going to the party?
Skylar: Yea, are you?
Rae: Yup.
Skylar: Ugh... I can't decide what to wear...
Rae: I can help with that!
Skylar: Yeah sure whatever.
Rae: I'm coming!
Rae shoved her phone in her pocket and straightened out her leather jacket, she fixed her slightly messy, lavender colored hair and walked out of her bedroom. She ran down the stairs and swung her purse over her shoulder. "I'm going to the party Madre!" Rae yelled as she ran out of the door. "O-Okay! Bye Mija." Her mother yelled to Rae, stuttering from the alcohol. Rae sprinted to the pale blue two-story house that was Skylar's. Rae contemplated jumping through the window again, but decided that it wasn't needed. Rae rung the doorbell and waited silently. A tall, tan, woman who had dark brown hair, which was streaked with gray answered the door, followed by Skylar. Side by side Skylar and the woman looked almost exactly alike, even their eyes matched.
"Hey, Skylar." Rae said, surprised at how much Skylar and the woman look alike. "Mom, this is my friend, Rae." Skylar said to her mother, who had been looking strangely at Rae, who suspected it was because of her lavender colored hair. "Well then, why don't you come inside, Rae." Skylar's mother said, her soft brown eyes welcoming Rae into the house. "Thank you Mrs. Willson." Rae said, thankful that Skylar's mother let her out of the piercing, cold, wind that sent a shiver down her spine and chilled her bones.
