Chapter 17

"I've been like that since yesterday?" Brett asked, he was a bit better, all cleaned up with new clothes, he was in the living room watching Perfida with them. Perdita was also waiting around with them.

"Yeah," Toca answered. "I found you that way in your place."

"It's vague but I remember that it lunged at me."

"Do you remember what you see while you were... in there?" Leyo asked

Brett thought about it for it then shook his "I think I do but it's a blur really."

Vance and March after calling their parents "so what did they say?" Toca asked.

"Mine said yes since they know it," Vance said.

"Mine too," March said.

"Your parents know everything?" Toca asked March.

"No, I just told my dad that the house is in the middle of the forest and it made him think I'm doing camping because it's manly."

"I even called Perfida's grandpa about... this," Vance informed. "He's understanding but worried."

"Why do you guys have to stay? why not just take her to the hospital?" Brett quipped, the others were giving each other questionable look to one another.

"We can't," Vance replied.

"What do you mean you guys can't? that thing is stuck to her head."

"It's more complicated than that, Brett."

"Okay, how?"

"It's dangerous, we think," Toca clarified

"Dangerous, why?" Brett was still not following, Toca then turned to the three boys and signalled any of them to tell him.

"For starters, that's the helmet that almost killed Void," Vance revealed, Brett was dumbfounded. "We actually found it in one of the vents in the VR park."

"Not only that, when you.. it made you wear it, it can... control your body like a puppet and other techs," March added.

"That old thing? How is that even possible?" Brett was in disbelief, everyone got quiet as they looked at each other to see who would.

"I'll take this one," Toca offered. "So this is the crazy part that I was going to tell you earlier, it's the VR park. It's haunted."

Brett could not grasp at what these people were telling him "haunted? like ghosts?" he chuckled think that it was a joke and everyone nodded at him in confirmation. "Okay, Toca, I may like playing games but I'm not some little kid to just believe in that... stuff."

Everyone was starting to feel annoyed and frustrated even though they expected that was how he would first reacted, Perdita was at the side shaking her head at Brett's response "Gosh, this is killing me, how are we going to do this?" Leyo groaned.

"I know, it's hard to watch," Vance said to Leyo.

"Brett, I'm not joking, I know it's kinda out there but it's real, it's really real," Toca insisted.

"Whatever, this is just stellar."

"Brett, we're serious, the bad stuff that kept happening in the VR park, it's because it's haunted."

"Uhm... no, those bad stuff were careless mistakes by my business partner not some mythical supernatural causes."

"Listen to me, man, try to look back at those, you guys couldn't find anything wrong in the programming and from the machines whenever something happened."

"Pfftt, what's next? missing blood in blood banks because of vampires?" Brett scoffed.

"Stupid little shit," Perdita was enraged at Brett's sarcasm that it caused another telekinetic force that a small vase was thrown off from its shelf that it aimed at him, he managed to dodge it in time but it gave everyone one heck of a scare.

"Woah! where'd that come from?"

"Perdita, what did you do?" Vance gasped.

"Oh! the vase," Toca squirmed once he saw the shattered vase.

"Who?" Brett heard another name came out from Vance's mouth.

"Uhmm..."

Perdita was shocked that she did that. Unintentionally. She began feeling guilt and embarrassment "I didn't do it," she stammered.

"What did you say?" Brett asked Vance again.

"Okay, since we're in topic of ghosts," Vance sighed.

"It's Perfida's twin, Perdita," March informed.

"She did that but not on purpose."

"Okay," Brett stuttered as he began believing them a little. "I'll bite. Is she the one haunting the VR park?"

"No, no, she's harmless, she herself has no idea how she did that."

"Alright, if it's not her, then who?"

"Void," Toca replied.

"Void?" Brett was taken aback by that. "The Ved Void? he's haunting my VR park? wait no, he's not dead or is he?"

"Well... both of them are true," Leyo said.

"But most are kinda murky that we're trying to figure them out," Vance added.

"Figure them what..? wait, back up. Who are you kids? and why do you need to figure them out?" Brett was starting to feel agitated from all the strange information that he was getting. "I know I got attacked by that helmet and played me like an RPG game, then I'm here because of it, now it's on that girl with a ghost twin and you guys are telling me that my business and that helmet is haunted by the previous owner and figuring this all out are some teenagers that barely has their licence?"

"Yup... pretty much," March confirmed.

"And I'll be getting my license," Vance claimed in a sassy tone. "FYI."

"This is too stellar for me," Brett was flabberghasted and leaned back on the single couch. "So why you guys are doing the... investigating or whatever you call it?"

"These guys, particularly her," Toca pointing at Perfida. "She can see ghosts."

"Her?" Brett was surprised.

"She saw what's wrong with the games, the glitching, the voices we hear, it was Void."

"Okay, say it is, going back to my last question," Brett was rubbing his wrinkling nose trying to make sense on everything they were telling him. "Why is he doing this to my business? he doesn't want anyone to own the VR park?"

"We're kinda stuck actually because first our key player is unconscious because of the helmet," Vance explained. "And our lead on Ricky..."

"Void's business partner?"

"Yup, we suspected that he has something to do with Void's... misfortune or knows something about it," Leyo informed.

"We're also suspecting Void's sister Pena, we learned from their nurse was that she is talking with Ricky," Vance added. "But we've been trying to stalk her but we haven't caught seeing him once we heard that you were in trouble and now we're here."

"Okay, got it," Brett exasperated. "I think. So we're just gonna wait here until she wakes up?"

"Aahhh, yeah, you, you can go home, if you want, we can take care of her."

"No, I'm good. Plus, I'm scared to be alone in my house right now."

-------

Hours passed that it was getting late and everyone went to sleep in the living room covering themselves with warm blankets, Vance was lying beside Perfida by waist, March and Leyo slept on the other couch taking up each side and the other two each got the single sofas.

Perdita was the only one looking after her sister, she noticed that Perfida's fingers were moving a little and then the fingers from her other hand after that her eyes were open wide looking up the ceiling "Peachy?" Perdita walked to her. Perfida turned to her twin with an odd blank expression like she did not recognized her then sat up "Peachy? are you okay?"

"I'm sorry," Perfida apologized which made Perdita confused.

"Sorry? sorry for what?"

"I'm not your sister."

Perdita saw her sister reflection at old metal place and it was no Perfida "oh no," she gasped. "You're not my sister."

Vance woke up from the motion by Perfida's movement, he was shocked to see her sitting up since he was next to her "Perfida? you're back," said with glee then woke up the others. "Guys, guys, it's Perfida. She's back."

"Vance," Perdita called through the spiritbox, it got Vance's attention. "That's not Perfida."

"Huh?"

"What's happening?" March yawned opening his eyes, and rubbed it a bit since he was in a deep sleep then blinked a few times and saw that Perfida was standing up from from the couch. "Perfida?"

"There she is," Toca greeted with a sigh of relief. "We were getting worried that it'lll get longer like it did to Brett. Oh! by the way, we already explained Brett everything, he knows about you and what's happening."

"I'll put my believing cap for the next twenty four hours," Toca clarified as he still doubt that the situation was from paranormal occurances. "It's a trial."

"Whatever."

Vance noticed Perfida was looking at her own hands and started touching them with a confused look and saw her felt her face then, she grabbed the metal plate that was on the table and looked at herself "it works," she uttered but it was Void speaking.

"Oh my God," Vance gasped, the other didn't understand what was going on. "Perdita is right, you are not Perfida."

"What are you talking about?" March asked.

"Guys, this is not Perfida, it's..."

"Void," it came out from Perfida's mouth. "Nice to meet you all."

The atmosphere got silent and stunned "she's like possessed?" March asked.

"Yeah..." Vance shrugged his shoulder.

"What did you do to my sister?" Perdita snarled at Void.

Void glanced over to her "don't worry, she's fine," he assured her.

"Hold up, hold up, hold up," Brett was waving arms in the air to try make sense of things. "The haunting thing is bad enough, but possession is just playing ridiculous already, I don't believe you are being taken over by Ved Void's spirit."

"Okay, what does it take for you to believe me?"

"Alright, let's see. Ah, I got it, Void used to make ten cheat codes, what's your third cheat code when you want to use the ultimate power moves in Wild Fighters?" Brett quizzed him. Void whispered the answer to his ear, he backed away and smirked at him, Brett was now fully convinced "that's right."

"Again. Why are you here? where's my sister?"

"Yeah, where's Perfida?" Vance asked.

"She's alright, I promise you, I have her permission to takeover her body, I just need to check on something," Void explained.

"Check on something?" March looked at Void in a weird way.

"Perfida said that I still have my body and my sister is taking care of it, I just want to see if maybe I can get back to it and I can see that it's possible, this is really amazing."

"Yeah... I guess," Vance stammered.

"More like weird," March expressed but he was referring to the possession.

"I find it very... freaky too," Leyo added.

Void was jolted when he saw Leyo, a non-human being but to him he was a freaky-looking creature, "Woah! what... what are you?"

"Excuse me?" Leyo did not understand Void's reaction.

"Holy Crap, it talks? what animal are you?"

"Hey, watch your mouth, this isn't an animal, he's a cosmis citizen," March defended Leyo. "What's wrong with you?"

"Sorry, cosmic what?"

"Dude, chill, there weren't any cosmic citizens yet when he was alive," Toca clarified then he turned to Void who was still stunned to see a cosmic citizen. "Sorry, about that, I'm Toca, this little guy is Leyo, he's from a planet called Livo so just to bring you up to speed once you get back your body and all that, you see, he's an alien."

"Alien?! you're kidding," Void was astounded by that. "That girl missed that part".

"Well, aliens and humans live in harmony now at least in Ares City."

"But the word 'alien', you can't say that word ever," Vance interjected. "It's like racial slurs."

"Yes, you call them cosmic citizens now."

"Got it, thanks," Void replied but he still couldn't believe it and dropped himself on a chair. "Wow, that is incredible, I was hoping that would happen."

"Yeah, great," Brett muttered with this concern expression. "Now that we can all establish that you are Void, why are you haunting and destroying the VR park? you don't like what I did to the place?"

"No, no. I was trying to get through to you guys but somehow it went awry," Void said. "I'm sorry that I caused problems, it was hard for me too but I am happy that it's in business again and that it's in good hands."

"Thanks, coming from you, it's so stellar," Brett smiled, he was elated to hear that from someone he idolized.

"I invest in it," Toca reminded. "Not that it's important."

"Nevertheless, I still want to find Ricky."

"That's taken care of," Vance said. "There's this detective and he's good, he's gonna find him right after he finished his work."

"Don't bother, I know where he is and just let you guys know, it's not his fault, it was all me," Void insisted.

"It's not," Vance quipped.

"How?" Brett asked.

"I can't stay long, Perfida will explain it," Void respond.

"Okay, we'll take care of the rest then," Vance assured him.

"Thank you," Void felt contentment from that. "Well, I better return this body to the rightful owner now."

"Finally," Perdita expressed.

"Spoiler alert, she's gonna pass out to sleep, once I take off the helmet," Void then put his hands to the headgear and pulled it out from Perfida's head. Vance caught her before she could drop herself hard, she got unconscious.

"Is she okay?" Perdita asked.

"Yeah, and asleep, help me put her back to the couch."
