Chapter Nine

Jadis couldn't bring herself to watch the fire monster as he roared and created noise that she could only assume was destruction. Loki will be all right. He has to be. He's intelligent—he wouldn't do anything to get himself killed.

"Get back!" someone shouted. The crowd scooted even farther into the ship, clearing a large space near the open door. A giant green... man fell in, holding onto two other people. He looked familiar, but Jadis couldn't quite place him.

Where would I know a green monster from...? Father. Of course. It's his newest champion, Hulk. Grandmaster had been beyond pleased when he found Hulk. He often spoke of him after the creature had landed on Sakaar. Apparently, he dominated the battle arena completely, winning the Grandmaster more money and power every day. He would be furious that he had gotten away. He must have come with Scrapper 142; he wasn't onboard with Loki and the rest of us. How did he fit into the Commodore though?

Jadis stepped forward when Hulk put Scrapper 142 and the man Loki had been talking to before he took off down. "Do you know where Loki is?"

Scrapper 142's eyes widened, but the other man spoke before she could. "How do you know my brother?" he asked, coming closer to her. He was taller than even Loki, with long yellow hair and huge arms.

This must be Thor. "Loki... is the one who brought me from Sakaar. He means much to me. Have you seen him?"

"Jadis—isn't it?" said Scrapper 142. "I thought you were dead."

The blond woman grimaced. "I know. But please, I have to know if Loki is all right."

Thor shook his head. "I'm sorry, I haven't seen him yet. I sent him to awaken Sutur—it was the only way to defeat Hela." He glanced out the door. "I hope he is safe. Loki is... cunning to say the least. I imagine he took his chance to leave while he could. He's made many mistakes on Asgard that he has yet to pay for."

A roar resounded outside. The three of them glanced at each other, then ascended to the giant window that was facing Asgard. The fire monster plunged his sword deep into the planet, wreaking havoc on the once-beautiful city.

Loki... Jadis covered her mouth with her hands.

She jumped when someone put a hand on her shoulder. It was a young woman. She leaned in close to whisper in the blonde's ear. "It's me, love. Come on, I want to talk to you privately."

Jadis stared at the woman. Her eyes were the same green as Loki's. She mutely nodded, allowing the girl to lead her to a small room, where she was transformed into Loki's familiar and comforting figure.

Throwing her arms around his neck, Jadis struggled not to cry as he held her tightly. "I thought... I was so worried." She pressed her face into his warm skin, breathing in his scent.

"I know," he murmured. "I know. I'm here now. I'm sorry I worried you." He planted a light kiss on the back of her head, then leaned his temple against her blond hair, shoulders relaxing as he held onto the woman he loved.

"Asgard," she said, leaning back at last. "It's... gone."

A hint of sorrow flitted through Loki's eyes, but it was gone a moment later. "I know. It was bound to happen someday." He smirked a little. "My father always said I would bring about its destruction, hard to believe he was right."

A smile flickered across her face. "What are we going to do now? I can't imagine you want to stay with Thor after all the things you've told me." She raised an eyebrow. "I've also heard that you have crimes you've yet to account for."

He grimaced a little. "Yes, well, for now I would like to stay. Thor and I have reached a sort of understanding and he may need my help yet. Asgard isn't going to rebuild itself you know." Jadis nodded with a smile. Loki bent down for a kiss and continued when he pulled away. "However, once my work with that brainless oaf is finished, you and I will find somewhere to stay. Somewhere away from Asgard and its stuffy laws. A beautiful city surrounded by culture and wealth, with a little house for you and I."

Jadis raised an eyebrow. "A little house? I expected you to wish for the largest one on the market."

He smiled. "I think we've both had enough of large, empty homes. I didn't say we would live in a shack, now did I? It will be small, but beautiful, and we'll always be comfortable. Perhaps someday we'll move into a larger one to accommodate all of our children." He rested his forehead on hers.

She giggled. "How many children do you plan on having?"

"At least half a dozen to carry on my name and your beauty."

Her smile was bright as she gazed adoringly up at him. "I'll see what I can do," she replied playfully. Loki kissed her again. She loved his soft, thoughtful kisses that overflowed with love and sweetness to which no wine would ever be able to compare.

"Is that what you want, my queen?" Loki whispered. "A city, a home, children?"

She laughed a little. "I want to be with you. Urban or rural home, no children or ten, with Asgard or without. I don't believe anything shall convince me to leave the man who saved me from an eternity under my father's heavy hand."

"I just want you to be happy," said her love, green eyes shining down at her.

Her smile was only for him, full of the emotions she could never fully express. "I am."
