Chapter 37: It's Makeout Time
Emma
"Emma. Emma. Wake up" I hear as someone shakes me.
"Wha...goway" I mumble as I turn on my side.
"Emma wake up. You're home."
I groan, opening one eye to see Jace right in front of me. "If I close my eye and pretend you're not here will you leave me alone?"
"Nope" he says popping the p.
I ignore him and close my eye again. He sighs and plants a kiss on my cheek. Then on my lips. Then he begins peppering kisses all over my face.
"Okay I'm up" I push his face away from mine. I notice we're parked in front of my house.
"We didn't move?" I ask but he just shrugs.
I get out of my car and Jace hands me my keys. "Thanks" I smile and push my hair back from my face.
"Wanna come in? I might need some help with my grandma" I say and he nods.
We both walk towards the front door and stop there. "Did you tell them?"
"Nah. I wanted to be sure first" he shrugs and I nod, taking a deep breath.
Let's get it over with.....
I walk into my house and go straight to the living room. "Hey guys..."
"Emma Sophie Carla Davies, do you have any idea how worried I've been about you?" My grandma is the first to notice me.
"Emma!" My mom runs forward and pulls me into a hug. "Thank goodness you're okay."
I'm dragged out of her arms and come face-to-face with my grandma. "Well, young lady. What kind of stunt was that you pulled? You don't just disappear for no reason you know. If you have problems, deal with it. If you're stressed, deal with it. You don't just run away like that, got it?"
"Yes ma'am" I mumble.
"Besides, what kind of problems do you have that you're running away. If you're just having boy trouble and you disappear for 3 days, what do you want your mom to do? Run away for a year?"
Jace snickers behind me and my grandma turns to him with her eyebrow raised. "Yes Jace?"
"Hello grandma Davies."
"Why are you here?"
"He brought me home grandma" I sigh.
"Well, I didn't know you two planned a little romantic getaway. I just hope I don't have any great-grandchildren soon."
I stare wide-eyed at my grandma as I try to form a coherent sentence.
"Ma! I called him to come pick me up" I lie.
"Okay whatever you say" she shrugs and walks out of the room and I turn to my mom. "You didn't move?"
"We didn't want to move without you. But you're dad's already settled in the house."
Of course he is.
"Okay so... Are you guys going to be sharing the same room?" I ask.
"Well honey, you see..."
"Mom, it's okay. It doesn't really matter" I say.
She smiles and hugs me. "Thank you darling. I know it's not easy for you to do this."
I nod and she let's go of me. "Oh and call your sister. Last I heard of her, she was with Sal."
"He woke up?"
"No. But I've still never met this Sal character" she says thoughtfully.
"Oh. Can I go upstairs now?"
"Yes, I'll call you dad to tell him you're back. And be down here for dinner in an hour."
"Yes ma'am" I say and drag Jace upstairs and into my room. Most of my stuff is packed into boxes though.
I sigh and plop down on my bed. "It's been a long day."
"Without you my friend" Jace says and I give him a dry look.
"Wow Jace" I say in a bored tone. "What time is it please?"
"It's makeout time" he says cheerfully and jumps on the bed beside me.
"Shut up Jace. I'm serious" I glare at him.
"I know I was kidding" he raises his hands in mock surrender.
"I'm gonna call Emily" I roll my eyes and pull out my phone from my pocket.
She picks up after the second ring. "Hey sis--"
"Emma! Oh my gosh is that you? You won't believe it. Sal woke up. He woke up a few hours ago. Can you believe that?"
I jump up from the bed. "Are you serious? Oh my god that's great news. I'll be over in a second."
"Your time is up" she says playfully. "I'm so happy. Although he's a bit tired he's not really upset about the whole thing."
"Okay, I'll be there in a few" I say and hang up.
"Do you really think your mom is gonna let you leave this house today?" Jace asks me.
"She will if she finds out Sal woke up" I say.
"Really? That's great" he says and I nod.
"Wanna come?" I ask, grabbing my keys.
"Sure" he shrugs and we both leave my room.
"Mom" I yell, walking downstairs. I walk straight to the kitchens to find my mom and grandma making dinner.
"I have to go mom. Sal woke up" I say.
"That's great" my mom says and my grandma nods.
"Emma I need you to give Emily this. I baked them this morning. And tell her to share with her brother" my grandma hands me a container filled with cookies and brownies
"You baked all these this morning?" Jace asks and my grandma nods and a look of pride.
"When I get stresses or worried, I bake. And I was worried about your girlfriend over here" she gestures to me.
"Okay grandma. We'll be back before dinner."
"Hold on. I'm coming with you" my mom says taking off her apron.
"What? Why? You don't need to do that" I furrow my eyebrows.
"Yes she does. And I'm coming too so hold on while I change" my grandma says and rushes out of the kitchen, my mom right behind her.
Jace sighs heavily beside me. "So much for stealing some brownies."
I laugh at this and whip out my phone to text Emily about her extra guests.
My grandma re-emerges wearing a floral vintage dress which stops just below her knees and my mom dressed in a pair of khaki pants and white blouse.
My mom grabs her car keys from a bowl on the kitchen island and smiles at me. "Shall we?"
We ride in silence until we get to the hospital. She parks the car and turns off the engine.
I climb out of my mom's minivan with the container in my hand and lead the way to the reception. I walk up to the receptionist and smile politely.
"Hi, we're here to see--"
"Emma!"
I'm cut off by my sister running up to me and crashing into my arms. "I'm so glad you're here!"
I laugh and hug her back. "Me too, little sis."
She pulls out of our embrace and walks up to my mom and grandma. "Hi mom. Hi grandma."
Things were still a bit awkward with them. It's not like you can adjust to this type of change easily.
After all the exchange of pleasantries, Emily leads us to Sal's room.
"He's been doing really well for someone who's been in a coma for a while and was told he might never walk again" she says, before stopping in front of a door.
"Can only Emma come in for now? He asked to be alone with her for a few minutes before seeing the rest of you."
Jace began to argue but Emily cut him off. "Don't worry about it, caveman. I'll be there to chaperone them."
He visibly relaxes before tensing up again. "Wait a minute. Who are you calling caveman?"
We both ignore him and hurriedly enter the room and close the door.
"Hey! Emma!"
I turn around and almost drop the container I'm holding in shock. Lying on a bed, with half a dozen tubes attached to his body and looking as weak as ever, is Sal.
"Sal..." My voice is barely a whisper as tears rush into my eyes.
He tilts his head to look at me. "Aww Emma, don't tell me you're crying too. It took me five hours to stop Emily's tears."
I let out a sound that's in between a sob and a laugh and he smiles.
"Now that's the Emma I know and love. Now come over here and give me a hug" he says, his arms widening.
I hug him as gently as I could without upsetting the tubes and he smacks my butt as I pull away.
"Sal!" I screech, my face turning bright red.
"Dude, your mortal enemy is right out the door and I promised you'll be on your best behavior and unless you wanna go into another coma, I suggest you comply" Emily says.
He rolls his eyes and huffs, "Fine." His attention is then drawn to my hand. "What's that?"
"Oh, this?" I hand him the container. "From my grandma", I say and watch his eyes widen as he sees the contents. "You're also supposed to share with Emily."
"Share what?" Emily looks up from her phone and when she sees the cookies, runs to them and grabs one.
"Thanks."
"It's okay. Why did you want to see me alone anyway?"
"No reason" he shrugs and takes another bite of his brownie
I narrow my eyes at him. "Or because you wanted to smack my butt in private?"
"Maybe" he smirks.
"You haven't even changed a bit."
Hey guys..... So before you pick up your pitchforks and torches please just let me explain myself.
I think my last update was.... February! Oh my God. I didn't realise how long it's been. We're in May for Christ's sakes. I was sick for about three months and didn't attend school and I was like depressed and didn't feel like writing at that point because I was really affected. Even now I don't really feel like writing but I just feel really guilty. And then I had to go back to school to catch up and now I'm back home again for a few days because of my doctor's appointment so..... there it is. And I am so so so so sorry. A million sorrys really. Plus this chapter is really short because I deleted a huge part of it.
I'm sorry guys. Especially Bri for ignoring your messages and everything. Really. And I might not get another chance to update till maybe June or July or August. I don't know.
Bye loves (and I'm sorry. Again).
