When Wooyoung came to, he had no comprehension of time or even fully what had happened. He felt like death, though, and wanted to never leave his bed. His entire body was heavy, but it also still felt like he could float away.
He was aware enough to realize the drug was still in his system.
A small groan escaped him and he moved to roll out of bed, but sounds front he other room made him pause.
"I still don't understand. Who is this guy?" San asked. He sounded extremely upset.
A second voice joined him that made Wooyoung wince. "He's Wooyoung's high school boyfriend." Jongho answered. It was obvious that he was upset about things too.
"The police are on their way, Sir." Pierre added.
"Thank you, are you ok?" San's voice was kinder when speaking to his bodyguard.
Wooyoung bit his lip and curled into a tight ball. He was too scared to leave his room right now, who knew what the others must think of him...
"Yes, thank you. He won't be though if he wakes up again."
"You can say that again." Jongho snapped.
"How do you know who he is?" San paused, "And what are you even doing here?" A hint of jealousy was in his voice.
"I could ask you the same thing." Jongho's voice dropped a little. "I was coming to drop off some things for Nova." He added softly, in an almost defeated tone. "I... I was planning on doing it anyway. I have Wooyoung her, and I promised to help with supplies until he could get back on his feet. I didn't want her to suffer just because of what happened..."
Tears came to Wooyoung's eyes and he pulled the covers over his head as he realized what Jongho was saying. That's why he had shown up randomly.
"But I saw Wooyoung being dragged down he street by someone holding his cheek. At first... I figured he must have gone and found someone else after what happened." Wooyoung winced at the younger's words. "That's not Wooyoung though, so I tried not to jump to conclusions. I needed to finish my deliveries first so the produce didn't go bad... Maybe if I hadn't though..."
"I get it." San let out another sigh. "He called me to tell me he wasn't in a safe situation and I got here as fast as I could."
There was a long pause. "He called you?" Jongho's voice cracked a little as he spoke.
"I don't think we should do this now."
"Then when? When are we going to talk about this?" A loud thud came from the other room, indicating Jongho had either stood up or slammed a fist against the couch.
"Shh, keep it down, we don't want to wake him."
Another long silence followed and for a moment, Wooyoung thought maybe they really were done talking. But then San surprised him by speaking again.
"I'm sorry. I hope you know I never meant to hurt you. And I know he didn't either. I knew he had been seeing someone, but for his privacy I never asked about it. Did you know?"
"Not really." Jongho answered. "I thought there could be a possibility, but just like you, I never asked. I was... Never mind." His voice was soft when he finished, driving a dagger deeper into Wooyoung's heart.
"You really care about him." San stated. It wasn't a question. After a short pause, he continued, "I do too. So... What are we going to do?"
That was the one question Wooyoung kept asking himself over and over again. What did he want to do? What would be best for his future?
San's next words were going to make that choice even harder too...
"I don't want this to come between us."
"And how can we possibly do that?" Jongho asked. "San... I..."
"What?"
"Never mind." Jongho sighed once more. "I should go. I need to get back to the farm."
"You don't want to wait for him to wake up?" San asked as it sounded like both of them stood up.
Tears spilled from Wooyoung's eyes. It hurt so much to think that Jongho wanted nothing to do with him now, after everything they had been through. Wooyoung's mind jumped to their first night together... Jongho's first time... There was no doubt about it.
Jongho must hate him.
No... Despise him.
"No. I have things I need to do. See you around." Jongho muttered, then the front door opened and closed, also slamming shut a part of Wooyoung's heart.
"Sir, the police should be here shortly, should we wake him up?" Pierre asked in a gentle tone.
Footsteps sounded a few seconds later and Wooyoung closed his eyes. He didn't want San to know he had been eavesdropping.
The bed dipped next him and San gently shook his shoulder. "Youngie? Youngie, you need to wake up now." His voice was soft, barely above a whisper.
Slowly, Wooyoung pulled the cover down and opened his eyes. San's forehead was creased with concern as he leaned over a little and tried to smile.
"How are you feeling, baby?"
"Head hurts..." Wooyoung mumbled, closing his eyes again.
Pierre appeared seconds later with a glass of water, which San held onto while Wooyoung slowly sat up. Then San held the glass to Wooyoung's lips and slowly tilted it, allowing Wooyoung to drink at his pace.
The cold liquid felt good running down his throat. It seemed to null some of the pain he was feeling and clear his head a little. Wooyoung still groaned, though, when San took the glass away and leaned forward.
"Easy." The older said, placing a hand on Wooyoung's shoulder. "You've been through a lot this afternoon. Do you remember anything?"
"L-Luke..."
"He's still unconscious. The police are on their way here, I'm sure they are going to want to talk to you."
Wooyoung nodded.
Sure enough, the police showed up a few minutes later.
Pierre hurried to greet them and started telling them what happened.
It took a few minutes, but an officer appeared in the doorway and knocked gently on the side of it. "May I come in?" When both boys nodded, he walked forward slowly, then leaned against the wall so he could look at both of them. "Luke has been taken into custody on the charges of assault, possession of drugs, and attempted kidnapping. It's not much for now, but we will try to build a case to build up our side of things. I just need to ask you a few questions, Mr. Jung, if I may?"
Wooyoung nodded again but kept his eyes on his hands.
"How did you know Mr..." He looked down at his notes. "Mr. Pierce, right? That's what his driver's license said."
"He's my ex." Wooyoung said softly. "We dated in high school. I haven't heard from him in years, though."
San reached forward and took one of his hands. It comforted Wooyoung and he took a deep breath.
The officer waited a moment before asking his next question. "So he just showed up out of the blue?"
"Y-Yes. But..." Wooyoung bit his lip. He knew he was about to take a big risk, but he couldn't go through this any longer. "I think my boss might have put him up to this."
"Excuse me?!" San's eyes widened and he sat up straighter. "What on earth are you talking about?"
Wooyoung flinched and started to tell them both about what Marcus had done. The contract, forcing himself on Wooyoung, all the implications... He also mentioned his suspicions of maybe taking his keys and making a copy for Luke.
When he was finished, San immediately pushed himself off the bed and marched out of the room, talking to Pierre and demanding his phone.
Wooyoung was left alone when the officer hurried after him. "Mr. Choi, please calm down. We wi—"
"No! That bastard needs to pay for what he's done!"
"I understand, but without any proof, there's no—"
"Trust me, I know, that's why I'm going to get as much information on him as possible." San growled.
"Mr. Choi..."
"What?! What are you going to do? Arrest me too? Trust me, I'm not going to do anything illegal like this bastard is!"
Wooyoung whimpered and shifted down on the bed so he could lay down once more with his back to the door.
What had he done?
Marcus was going to be so upset with him... He shuddered at the though of what his boss would do to him now.
Everything seemed to be going from bad to worse, and there was no end to it.
The voices in the other room became muffled in his mind, although he thought he heard mention of taking a drug test at some point.
A team of officers swarmed his apartment and started combing over every surface to get as much evidence as they could. One of them ended up giving Wooyoung a test kit to use in the bathroom, which San had to help him out of bed and point him in the right direction to take.
Once he was up, though, his head started to clear, and he could start to process a little more what had happened.
He was asked a few more questions by the other officers, mostly about his relationship with Luke and Marcus.
San was in and out of the apartment several times, always on his phone, and if it wasn't him then it was Pierre.
Nova came up to him once most of the people had left and pawed at his leg until he picked her up. She looked so overwhelmed by what was going on, he brought her to his chest immediately to try and comfort her. "It's ok. We are safe now." He whispered into her fur.
"And I want to make sure you stay that way." San said, coming to sit down next to him. "I want you to move in with me. Even if it's just for a bit."
Wooyoung opened his mouth to protest, but San held his hand up to stop him.
"I don't like the thought of you being so far away. The drive here was one of the most stressful hours of my life, and Pierre even sped most of the way here. If he had done anything more to you... And I could have prevented so much if you were closer..." San swallowed and closed his eyes. "Please? Please, let me take care of you. You know that I can, and I already told you what I want."
The younger focused on Nova for a long time, mulling over San's words. He knew the other had a point. It was hard to say what was going to happen with Marcus now...
"And I don't want you going back to work. I'm handling that as best I can right now, ok?" San reached up to cup Wooyoung's cheek. "She can come too." San added with a teasing smile when Nova meowed and pawed at San's hand, almost like she was trying to bat it away from her owner's face.
Wooyoung chuckled and finally made eye contact with San. "What about my apartment."
"I can take care of that too. Let me take care of everything. Let me take care of you baby." The older whispered, leaning forward slowly to kiss Wooyoung's forehead.
"Ok." Wooyoung whispered and closed his eyes at the touch.
The next hour was a whirlwind of motion. Pierre showed up with boxes to pack Wooyoung's pitiful amount of belongings in, which really only consisted of his clothing and Nova's things. He had no real attachment to anything in the run-down apartment, so it was easy for him to leave everything else behind.
Once everything was loaded in the truck of San's car, they slide into the back and started the long drive home.
Nova jumped out of Wooyoung's arms and climbed onto the center console to look up at Pierre. A low chuckle came from the man and he picked her up to set her in the passenger seat.
This allowed San to pull Wooyoung into his arms and kiss the top of his head several times. "Are you ok?"
Wooyoung didn't answer, which seemed to be enough for San because he started to rub the younger's arms in a gentle, comforting motion.
"I took care of your lease for you." San whispered after a few moments. Wooyoung tilted his head back to look at him. "They wouldn't allow me to put it on hold or anything, so I just paid the fee to break it."
"San, you—"
"Hush. I wanted to do it for you. I know I may be jumping the gun a little, but I want to take care of you Youngie. Even if you don't want to live with me for very long, I have some contacts and we can look at getting you a nicer apartment than that."
"But, it's all I could afford..."
San tightened his grip and hummed. "I know. But you have me know." He smirked. "Everything is going to be ok, I promise."
Wooyoung still felt guilty about San spending so much money on him, but at the same time, he believed San when he said it would be ok. He finally let himself relax as he tried not to think about the days to come and what new hell they would bring.
