Baekhyun
Baekhyun knew he had to get a job to earn some money. He'd been looking for a part-time job for about a year when he had to quit his job in a bookstore because they had to shut it down, and Baekhyun was jobless, but he couldn't stop thinking about it now. He was supposed to go out to eat dinner with Chanyeol tonight, and he was broke. Maybe Chanyeol already concluded that, and that's why he said it'd be his treat? Baekhyun wouldn't know unless he asked.
In Baekhyun's last class for that Wednesday, he heard some of his classmates giggle when they were supposed to do some tasks whilst their professor was out to get some papers. Baekhyun just tried to ignore them and did what he was supposed to do, but then he felt some curled up paper balls hitting him. It didn't necessary hurt him physically, but it did bother him. He was about to look over at them, and they only grimaced to him, and continued to giggle at him to each other. They stopped right away when their professor was back again, and Baekhyun could finally breathe out in relief. He felt terrible about himself that he had to rely on his professor to his rescue every time.
"Aren't you supposed to get ready for your date?" Kyungsoo asked, as they were relaxing in Baekhyun's dorm. Baekhyun glanced at the clock, but he only shrugged.
"I don't know, I'm not going to wear anything special. We're probably just going to eat on a cheap restaurant, so why look fancy? And I've already showered and fixed my hair," Baekhyun replied. As he glanced over at Kyungsoo who was relaxing on his roommate's bed, he remembered what he called it. "And it's not a date."
"Sure, if you don't want to look at it in that way," Kyungsoo muttered whilst rolling his eyes. He closed his eyes to relax more, but Baekhyun couldn't. Now he couldn't stop thinking if his clothes were good enough. He was planning on just wearing a white polo shirt and jeans; no need to look good in front of Chanyeol. Why would he? It wasn't a date.
He got up from his bed and started to get dressed. After he had double checked his clothes and hair, even though he was only brushing his fingers through his hair one billion times, he went out of the bathroom and stood between the two beds and faced Kyungsoo. "What do you think?" he asked, a bit nervous.
"You're going to wear that?" he asked judgingly. Baekhyun rolled his eyes. Why would he bother to even ask his friend for his opinion?
"Ops, time to go," Baekhyun said as he saw how much time he actually used to get ready. He had already texted Chanyeol the name of his school, and he would be there any minute now. "See you later Kyungie," Baekhyun said with a playfully wink and walked up to the door, trusting Kyungsoo to be gone from their room before his roommate's appearance and would scold at Baekhyun later for letting in a 'stranger' alone in their room.
"Have fun on your date," Kyungsoo smirked and winked back. Baekhyun didn't even bother to correct him and just closed the door behind him and marched over to the main doors of the University.
He didn't have to stand there long until Chanyeol appeared in his bright red car that had no roof top, and Chanyeol sat in the driver's seat with sunglasses and formal clothes, looking absolutely stunning. Baekhyun hadn't noticed that he was drooling whilst staring at the guy. Other students nearby were eying Chanyeol, his car, and Baekhyun as he got in. Chanyeol, however, was firstly staring at Baekhyun before he decided to drive away.
Baekhyun felt anxious. Why were Chanyeol's clothes formal? Why was he dressed so good? Why was he looking good in such clothes? Why was he even wearing them? Why hadn't he said anything to Baekhyun? "You look good," Baekhyun commented to break the silence. Chanyeol only glanced at Baekhyun for a quick moment before turning his eyes back on the road.
Baekhyun's jaw had dropped when they stood in front of the restaurant Chanyeol had brought them to. "Are you kidding me?" Baekhyun asked astonished as he turned to Chanyeol. He looked calm, as usual, and only raised his eyebrows at Baekhyun.
"What?" he asked.
Baekhyun glanced down at the ground. "We're eating here? Can't we go somewhere...somewhere cheaper?" he suggested, but Chanyeol only shook his head.
"No, I'm already paying for you, so you don't have to worry about the money," he said as if it was nothing.
Baekhyun couldn't help but to stare at him amazed. "Are you serious?" he gasped. "It's a five stars restaurant," he said.
"And?" Chanyeol waited for Baekhyun's point.
"And what do I look like to you? I don't even look to be eating at a one star restaurant. We should go somewhere place else." Before Baekhyun could even turn around to sit back down in the car, Chanyeol had grabbed his arm forcefully, and dragged him with him inside the restaurant.
"I've reserved a table for two under Park Chanyeol," he said, and a waiter led them to their table. The waiter was eying Baekhyun, probably because of his clothes he thought, but she handed them their menus before she said she'd be back with water and to take their order for drinks first. "You can't pay for me here. It's too expensive," Baekhyun said unsure whilst glancing around.
Chanyeol frowned at him up from his menu. "I do whatever I want with my own money."
Baekhyun was about to protest, but realised it'd be pointless. He's even more stubborn than me, Baekhyun thought to himself. "Then at least let me owe you one."
Chanyeol shrugged. "Do whatever you want."
After they had order both their drinks and food, they were eating in silence. Baekhyun hated it, and tried to come up with something to chat about.
"Why didn't you tell me when we were outside my school to go and change when we're eating in a place like this?" Baekhyun asked. As he glanced around, he saw some people peeked at him judgingly.
"Because you look cute," he replied simply whilst taking a bite from his perfect made steak. Baekhyun almost dropped his fork when he heard his reply, and shyly avoided his gaze.
"Why did you want to pay for me anyways?" he asked curiously.
"Do you have enough money to pay for the food here?" Chanyeol asked as he looked up at Baekhyun, not eating until Baekhyun answered him.
"No," he muttered.
Chanyeol looked down and started to eat again. "Thought so."
Baekhyun shrugged. "We could've gone somewhere cheaper where I could pay for myself though. The food would be just as good, and I wouldn't get judging stares because of my outfit," Baekhyun sighed. He looked up at Chanyeol, but he remained silent as he continued to eat his food.
Chanyeol
They were silent for the rest of the meal. Chanyeol knew Baekhyun was a chatty person, and he found it weird that he didn't try to be more active in a conversation.
"Are you okay?" Chanyeol asked unsure after he couldn't take looking at Baekhyun like that anymore.
Baekhyun smiled back in response. "I'm fine, don't worry. I just thought of my family, and that I miss them." Chanyeol wasn't sure if he believed him or not. His face didn't say that he was thinking of his family, but if he lied, he obviously didn't want to talk about it, or even let Chanyeol know. He could understand though, and he didn't want to possibly make Baekhyun uncomfortable on their first official date. Yes, he could finally admit to himself that they were, in fact, on a date. Did Baekhyun know though?
"I had a wonderful time," Baekhyun said grinning as Chanyeol drove him back to school after their dinner date was over. Chanyeol wished he had prepared for something more so he didn't have to say goodbye to Baekhyun this early.
"Me too," he replied with a big smile. He opened up his arms, expecting Baekhyun to lean in for a hug, but he only stood still, staring awkwardly at him whilst blushing.
Chanyeol rolled his eyes as he giggled and leaned in to give him a big hug. "C-Chanyeol, people are watching us," Baekhyun whispered as he could barely see over the older man's shoulder, but he did see students staring in their direction. After Chanyeol let go of their hug, they still stood there in silence, but it wasn't awkward. Neither of them wanted to go just yet.
Chanyeol looked around to take a view of the school, and from the main port, he spotted a small group of girls and boys coming in their way to walk pass them. Chanyeol kept his eyes focused on them, and noticed the closer they came, the stiffer Baekhyun became, and he lowered his gaze and tried to avoid theirs. Chanyeol frowned at him, and when he looked back at the group, they were staring at Baekhyun like he was a prey, and they snickered to each other. "Hey, Baekhyun," Chanyeol began, earning Baekhyun's attention. He was about to question the group and their behaviour, but decided to wait. "Nothing. Do you have any plans on Friday?" Baekhyun shook his head. "What kind of movies do you like?"
He started to blush again and looked down at the ground between them. "I watch all kind of movies actually," he said with a soft smile as their gaze met again.
"Great, wait here by six o'clock, okay? I'll make us food and we'll watch a movie."
Chanyeol sat back in his car and drove off whilst waving to Baekhyun before he could say anything else, or protest, and drove back home.
That night, Chanyeol fell asleep with a smile on his face as he remembered their date, and Baekhyun's soft smile and eyes.
