chapter one

Killer Queen

CLAUDIA SMILED PROUDLY ONCE the knife she had thrown hit the exact target she had wanted it to. It was always special to her when she was precise, something that she had been practicing for years. It all started when she was in foster care, and a hunter (of animals and the supernatural alike ) taught her his ways.

He had to give her back soon after, the system not deeming him fit to take care of the girl. However, she never stopped using the techniques he taught her, and she might have even surpassed him in how precise she was. The girl was a natural, and that was what she was proud of.

"Are you tired of showing off?" Violet asked, the mere sound of her voice annoying the Jelani girl.

Again, being partners didn't mean that would have to like each other, although, it would be a lot more convenient.

"Don't be mad, babe. She's just good at what she does." Garrett said to his girlfriend, trying to reassure her as he snaked his hands around her waist.

The two placed a kiss against each others lips and that was enough to make Claudia want to vomit. She quickly made her way over to her knife and un lodged it from the nearby tree before sticking it in her book bag. She would much rather not train than train with no peace and quiet.

"I'm heading out, call me when you guys decide to stop dry humping." The girl commented, her words going unnoticed as she rolled her eyes and walked up the steep hill that led to the road.

Once she made it onto the sidewalk, the girl hid the secret knife stash hidden against her skin by pulling her pant leg over it, never forgetting to be aware of her surroundings.

Beacon Hills was a quiet place, but one that had secrets, ones that Claudia wasn't too fond of. By the looks of the dead pool, there were dozens of supernatural freaks she could just kill and make money off of. With the way she seen it, she was a hero, saving people from an "evil" they didn't even know existed.

Then again, she knew deep down she was even worse than them.

As she kept walking, the Jelani took note of her surroundings, trying to make her way toward the neighborhood she knew was Liam's. For the time being, the trio had decided to use his obvious crush on her to fit in while they were in Beacon Hills, if someone found them out, they'd be goners for sure. Yes, she accepted the job, it wasn't like the other two could do it, their relationship preventing them from getting real work done.

More reasons she wanted to drop them.

Finally, she reached the destination, the girl waving at the teen who was luckily outside mowing the lawn.

"What are you doing here?" Liam asked, wiping beads of sweat off of his forehead as he powered down the lawnmower.

"Going on a walk, it helps me clear my head." Claudia replied, lightly shrugging her shoulders.

It was all lies, everything that came out of her mouth seemed to be these days.

"Can I walk with you?" The Dunbar boy questioned, wiping off his hands that were most likely sweating as he wore a goofy smile on his face.

"Uh, don't you have work to do?" Claudia pointed at the half mowed lawn, the boy simply shaking his head as he swiped his hand in the air, signaling that it wasn't really that important.

"I'll just do it later." The boy finally answered, walking up to the street as the two began to walk side by side. "It's nice out today."

"Too nice, I prefer the rain." The Jelani girl admitted, letting out a slight sigh. "The heat makes my hair all puffy and you always see sweaty old guys with their shirts off and ass cracks out."

"Still not seeing why rain is the better option." Liam commented, sticking his hands in the pockets of his shorts.

"I like the way it sounds, it helps me sleep at night. Plus, every place needs a little bit of rain. You know, like when people say that every good thing is only good because there's evil." Claudia lightly shrugged her shoulders. "People only appreciate the sunny days because there is rainy ones."

"You're weird, you know that?" The Dunbar boy asked, not able to prevent himself from smiling out of control.

"Maybe you're the weird one." The Jelani girl quipped, raising a slight brow when she felt her palms get sweaty. "I'm suddenly realizing this back and forth thing is becoming a little too middle school."

One thing that nobody knew about Claudia was, she never actually attended middle school. The girl ran away from one of her foster homes around that age, and had been doing the whole assassin thing ever since. She would probably be a happier person if she had stayed but, there was a possibility that she wouldn't be.

It was a bit too late to test that theory.

"Right." Liam responded awkwardly, the silence between them becoming almost unbearable until he spoke up once again. "Can I walk you home?"

"I'm not going home." Claudia responded, ideas already popping up in her twisted little brain on how to lie to him. "I told you, i'm on a walk."

"But all walks eventually end up home, right?" The Dunbar boy was trying his best to be chivalrous, however, it was always hard to do something nice for the girl.

He always noted how closed off she was, how the girl wasn't nearly as talkative as her supposed best friends, and the look in her eyes was always dead, like she was tired of life. He couldn't have been more correct, she was tired, she needed something new.

Or else, she was going to go insane.

"Why do you care about me walking home safe?" Claudia decided it was best to point the attention at him, making the boy blush as he looked around nervously.

You see, she was supposed to be living in a housing development that wasn't you know, developed. In reality, the girl was staying in her own trailer, one that she could easily pack up and leave with if need be. That lifestyle, and the fact that weapons replaced the space where he so called family should be, was why she had been avoiding showing anyone her home at all.

"I don't." Liam began to fumble over his words as he seen an amused expression on the girls face, waving his hands. "What I mean is, I just thought it would be nice, since the next semester is starting and we might not see each other."

Right, school.

Claudia mentally rolled her eyes at the thought of high school. She had grown up as her own parent her whole life, and learning meaningless things that she would never use to get some boring 9-5 was not her idea of fun. Actually, she didn't think anything was fun, really.

Except killing, occasionally.

"I think we'll be fine, Liam."
