When Gabriella, Bellamy, Wells and Murphy barged into the throne room, they were partially expecting Clarke to already be dead or something but instead, she was standing in the middle of the room staring at Jaha who was standing above an unconscious grounder. On the other side of the room, Abby was hanging from the ceiling while Alina was tied and gagged on the throne.
"Stop him." Clarke pleaded towards them and Bellamy didn't hesitate before shooting Jaha in the shoulder.
While Wells immediately walked towards Alina, Bellamy was taking care of Jaha and Murphy was taking Abby down, Gabriella rushed towards Clarke, untied her hands and removed the thing tied around her neck.
"Are you okay?"
"Is she alive?" Clarke asked hurriedly, staring at Murphy and Abby with wide worried eyes, "Is she breathing?"
Abby was staring at the ceiling with no emotion on her face and her mouth agape while Murphy was taking off the ropes from around her hands, all while assuring Clarke, "She's okay. She's breathing."
Clarke breathed out a sigh of relief before turning around to look at Gabriella and Bellamy with an alarmed look on her face, "Jaha has the flame. Get it."
While Gabriella rushed to take the flame from an unconscious Jaha's jacket pocket, Clarke kneeled above the knocked out grounder.
"We can't let Ontari die." the Griffin stated, "We have to stop the bleeding."
Murphy moved away from Abby and kneeled down above Ontari, next to Clarke just as Gabriella walked towards them with the flame in her hand.
"Her pulse is weak.'' Clarke started with furrowed eyebrows, removing her fingers from Ontari's jaw.
Bellamy huffed under his breath, staring down at them from next to Gabriella, "At least she's alive."
"Here hold this to the wound." Clarke handed a cloth to Murphy which he reluctantly took and placed at the side of Ontari's neck where Jaha must have hit her or something if the pole next to his unconscious body was anything to go by.
"What are you gonna do?" Murphy asked her all while putting pressure on the wound.
"I need a flashlight." Clarke stated, ignoring his question and started going through the bag Gabriella dropped on the floor next to them.
"First we take out the chip. Then we put in the flame." Gabriella informed Murphy frowning down at the flame and then moving her gaze towards Bellamy who was taking out the things they needed to take the chip out of Ontari.
Alina approached them with Wells by her side and a limp in her step, furrowing her eyebrows, "You can get the chip out?"
Gabriella looked up at her, nodding, "Yeah. Raven managed to find one last wristband."
Clarke let out a noise of frustration, and put the flashlight down, "Her pupils are unresponsive."
"What does that mean?" Gabriella asked blankly, sitting down on the floor next to her, almost completely unfamiliar with the medical terms.
The Griffin looked up at her with teary eyes and stated, "She's brain dead. She can't give us the kill code. It's over."
"We're trapped here." Murphy sighed with his jaw clenched.
"Fuck." Gabriella cursed, leaning back on the palms of her hands and squeezing her eyes shut in frustration.
-
Gabriella let out a small sigh of relief at the sight of Clarke talking to Abby in the middle of the throne room. She left to scout the floor in case anyone else was there while Murphy was tying up Jaha and the others and Bellamy went to get back up and stop the elevator, leaving Clarke, Wells and Alina to get the chip out of Abby and wake her up.
The door behind her opened and she immediately turned around, her eyes briefly widening at the sight of Bellamy with his gun raised in alarm while Murphy and Pike trailed behind him.
"Hey, no." Clarke shielded her mother with her own body.
Wells stepped towards them, huffing as he stopped next to Gabriella, "It's okay. We used the EMP. She's Abby again."
"Well what about Ontari?" Murphy asked curiously, pointing towards the unconscious nightblood on the floor, "I thought you said we only had one shoot with that thing."
"I told you," Clarke got up from her place on the floor and slowly made her way towards them, "Ontari is no longer an option for the flame. She's brain dead." her eyes shifted towards Gabriella, "Is the floor secure?"
Gabriella gave her a single nod but still kept her gun tightly in her hand. It didn't matter how safe everything around them looked now, she was still wary of even being in Polis in the first place.
"Jaha and the guards are tied up in the bedroom." Bellamy announced and Alina cracked a sarcastic smile.
"Kinky."
While Gabriella's lips tugged into an amused smirk, Pike's face flashed with annoyance at her words but he ignored her and added, "We took out the elevator and the ladder as we climbed. The stairs collapsed. No one's following us."
Clarke seemed satisfied by their words and nodded, "Good. Then we have time."
"What we don't have is a way down." Murphy said with an annoyed glint in his voice.
"Time for what?" Gabriella directed her question towards Clarke with furrowed eyebrows, completely ignoring Murphy's entire existence. She might have been mad at both of them at the moment but in these last few days, she tortured Clarke enough so she figured it was time to direct her pettiness to someone else. And Murphy was the perfect target due to all the shit he said and did in these last few months, "What's your plan exactly, Princess? Since we're kind of out of options here."
"An ascension ceremony."
Murphy blinked, not sure if he heard the Griffin right, "Ascension? You just said Ontari wasn't an option. Besides, she's still chipped and we no longer have an EMP."
"She isn't talking about Ontari." Gabriella said in realization, gaping at Clarke in shock, "She wants to take it."
"Exactly." Clarke nodded, "We're not putting the flame in Ontari's head. We're putting it in mine."
Alina scoffed, "Yeah, cause that sounds like an amazing idea."
Wells didn't seem that on board with Clarke's life threatening plan either and didn't even think twice before adding "Emerson died in a span of three seconds after you put that thing into his head."
"Emerson wasn't connected to a nightblood." Clarke stated confidently and Gabriella couldn't stop her face from scrunching up into a grimace.
"Connected?" she repeated and let out a scoff of disbelief, "Clarke, please tell me you're not thinking what I think you're thinking."
"Transfusion?" Pike asked from behind them, stepping closer.
"Not exactly."
Abby stared at her daughter in disbelief, "Connected like Mount Weather."
Clarke turned her back on them so she was only looking at her, "Yes. Everything we need is in your med kit."
"No, it's too dangerous." Abby was quick to dismiss her while standing up "There are too many variables."
"But no options." Clarke shot back.
Gabriella snapped her attention away from the mother daughter duo when Octavia came running into the room, panting slightly. The brunette looked between Gabriella and Clarke, "Whatever you're doing, you better do it fast."
"Why?" Bellamy chimed in with a confused look on his bruised up face, "What happened?"
"They're climbing." Octavia said nervously but quickly masked it with an emotionless look.
Gabriella's eyes widened and she immediately rushed towards the window with everyone else. They looked down at the city of Polis to see everyone that took the chip circling the tower, trying to make their way to the top. Luckily it was a long way up so they still had some time.
"We're so fucked." Gabriella sighed, gripping the edge of the balcony, Bellamy nodded in agreement from next to her just as Murphy stood on her other side.
The Hastings girl bit her bottom lip nervously, exchanging a worried glance with Bellamy.
They really had to figure out how to get this over with so they could go back home because Polis only made Gabriella incredibly anxious. She didn't know if it was because it was unfamiliar territory or because grounder cities and villages weren't her strongest suit but she knew she didn't feel safe here. Hell, she didn't feel safe anywhere since Pike showed up. Now he seemed to be literally everywhere. So yeah, him being there too didn't help one bit.
-
Abby was currently working on trying to connect Clarke to Ontari which will result in Clarke getting temporary nightblood. Gabriella watched the entire time, glued to Wells' side next to the Griffin women. Sure, she didn't know a thing about medicine or that area of science ( despite her being a total overachiever and school try hard before she got locked up in the Sky Box ) but she still wanted to see how this was going to go.
Plus, Wells looked as if he was going to ask to trade places with Clarke any second and that was only going to happen over her dead body.
"Balcony is greased." Pike announced when he stepped back into the room, "No one's getting in through here."
"Good." Bellamy nodded to himself, "There's enough lamp oil to cover every window on the floor except the Commander's chambers."
"Then that's where the fight starts right?" Wells asked, his eyes not moving from where Abby was giving Clarke an injection in her arm, "What are we gonna do then?"
Pike let out a sigh, answering, "I don't know but we'll dig in there."
"I wasn't asking you." Wells snapped, finally looking away from his ex-girlfriend and towards the former Chancellor, who gave him a small frown but ignored him and started walking out of the room with Bryan and Miller following behind, the former doing so with a small limp in his step.
Octavia gave Gabriella, Wells and Clarke one last lingering look before starting to walk out too, only to stop dead in her tracks when her brother called after her.
"O." she turned to him with an expectant look on his face and his eyes softened as he added, "Be careful."
She only gave him a blank look and then turned on her heel and out of the throne room. Gabriella sighed at the look on Bellamy's face that resembled a kicked puppy and gave his shoulder two comforting squeezes. Bellamy looked down at her with soft and sad eyes and squeezed her wrist back, knowing they didn't have time for anything more in the middle of a situation like this one.
"We're all set." Abby's voice brought them out of their small moment and their attention immediately snapped towards Clarke.
Abby looked at her daughter in worry, as if silently pleading for her to change her mind, "Okay. Are you ready?"
"Yeah." Clarke nodded shakily and her mother gave her one last doubtful look before twisting one of the tubes and they watched as Clarke's blood traveled through the tube and towards the transparent bag between her and Ontari, then right into Ontari's arm.
When Abby did the same to Ontari, her black blood traveled towards Clarke in the same manner and Gabriella's mouth was agape at the sight.
"Cool." she muttered to herself, hearing Bellamy let out a faint chuckle of amusement that he quickly covered with a fake cough.
He nudged her elbow with his own and she immediately snapped her gaze away from the blood transfusion to him, seeing him raise an eyebrow and smirk slightly, "At least she's not doing that hanging outside down or strapped to a chair in a reaper lab."
Gabriella didn't even bother to hide her amused snort at his attempt to lighten the mood with the small inside joke. What surprised her though, was Wells letting out a breathy chuckle and Clarke cracking a small smile.
"This will work." the Griffin tried assuring her mother but it didn't seem to be working.
"And if it doesn't?"
"If it doesn't work, then she dies." Murphy deadpanned from his corner of the room, removing his annoyed gaze from Gabriella and Bellamy and towards the doctor. He walked closer while adding, "If she doesn't try then she dies with the rest of us when the climbers get here." he stepped directly in front of Abby," If we're gonna do this I need the flame."
Clarke sighed and gave her mother a pleading look, "Mom, please. He knows what he's doing." 𝘏𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴? "You have to let me go."
She didn't wait for Abby to respond and open the palm of her hand, allowing Murphy to take the flame from it and move to the back of the throne she was sitting on.
"Lean forward." he instructed and she leaned her head down, but not before reaching for Wells' hand with her own. The sane Jaha stared down at it for a couple of seconds and then reluctantly took her hand in his own. Gabriella raised an amused eyebrow.
She cared for him. She really did. Despite not wanting to admit it out loud. But seeing him juggle around between Alina, Clarke and sometimes Raven was really giving her a headache. I mean he has been in love with Clarke for as long as she can remember but he and Alina seemed to have this unspoken connection that even a blind person could see. Raven and Wells on the other hand have been messy from the start because Raven doesn't allow herself to be the type of person that relies on others and Wells was the type of person who lived for the chance to be someone's lifeline or human shield. Gabriella liked to call that a hero complex.
She knew what love looked like. Hell, she knew how it felt like. And that's how she knew Wells loved all three of them. Maybe not in the same way but he did. He's just the person that wears his heart on his sleeve and catches feelings way too quickly.
"You ready?" Murphy asked Clarke, sighing under his breath.
"Yeah, do it."
Murphy nodded at her words, lifted the flame above her neck and whispered, "Ascende superius."
Thin tendrils almost jumped out of the flame and slighter in the air before they reached out for the back of Clarke's neck when Murphy brought the flame closer to her. Clarke realised a scream out flame as the flame inserted itself inside of her and before either one of them could react, her eyes fell shut and she fainted.
𝘋𝘢𝘮𝘯. Was the first thing that appeared in Gabriella's head before her eyes widened in both panic and realization. 𝘍𝘶𝘤𝘬. 𝘍𝘶𝘤𝘬. 𝘍𝘶𝘤𝘬.
She was about to rush towards the unconscious blonde, maybe try to slap her in hopes she would wake up but Abby beat her to it and cupped the side of her daughter's face, checking for pulse, all while chanting countless 𝘯𝘰's under her breath.
"Is she okay?" Gabriella asked with fear in her voice, not knowing if she even wanted to know the answer but after looking between Bellamy and Murphy ( who both looked completely clueless and out of place ) and then at Wells who looked completely mortified, she figured someone had to.
Abby didn't take her panicked eyes away from Clarke as she responded, "Her heart is racing." her eyes turned angry as she shifted her gaze to Murphy, "Get that thing out of her head." when he didn't move she spoke in an angry tone, "I said; get that thing out of her head!"
Murphy swallowed, about to do what she told him to but then, Clarke's eyes fluttered open and she shook her head, muttering a barely audible, "No." her voice came out louder the next time and her eyes were wide in realization, "No. Not yet."
Her mother cupped her cheeks in worry, "Are you in any pain?"
"No. I'm okay." Clarke shook her head and looked at Wells, then at Gabriella, "I know how to stop ALIE. I have to take the chip."
"What?" Wells and Gabriella spat out at the same time and Clarke clearly didn't seem to notice their unease because her next words were dead serious.
"I have to go into the City of Light and find the kill switch."
"Yeah." Murphy chimed in sarcastically, nodding at her words, "That sounds like a great idea."
"For once I agree with the cockroach." Wells stated after a beat of tense silence, giving his ex-girlfriend a wide eyed look, "Clarke, ALIE wants to get the flame and you taking the chip while having it in your head would be us serving it to her on a silver platter."
"The second someone sees you, ALIE is gonna know that you're there." Abby added in agreement, "She'll kill you. If your mind dies you die."
"The flame will protect me." Gabriella couldn't help but scoff at Clarke's confidence which she noticed this time and immediately added while looking her dead in the eye, "I don't know how I know I just . . . know."
Bellamy huffed under his breath, brushing past everyone to grab one of the chips from the table and walking back towards them. He handed Clarke the chip without hesitation and Abby shook her head before giving in.
"Do you even know what you're looking for?" she asked her daughter.
"I'll know when I find it." Clarke smiled as Abby placed a tender kiss to the top of her head before she took the chip out of Bellamy's hand.
Abby caressed her hair with tears in her eyes, "May we meet again."
"We will." Clarke shot back without missing a beat.
Gabriella felt Bellamy's arm move to her lower back and she moved her gaze away from the Griffins to look up at him, only to find him already looking at her with an unreadable expression on his face. He hesitated before turning to Clarke, "We'll keep you safe."
Clarke gave him a grateful nod, giving Wells and Gabriella one last look before putting the chip into her mouth and swallowing it. Her eyes instantly fell shut and then she was gone.
-
Gabriella watched a lot of horror and action movies in her time as Monty Green and Jasper Jordan's friend on The Ark. And she means a lot.
They all have a different meaning of "splitting up". In horror movies it usually meant a bunch of people are going to die and in action movies it was one of the smartest things you could do. Gabriella prayed to whatever gods are up there that in this case, it was the latter.
Bellamy didn't seem too happy when Gabriella and Wells said they would scout the windows on the down floor while he got Alina, Octavia and Miller to join them but he soon realized she wasn't budging so he made the stupid mistake of letting them go down there alone.
Wells and Gabriella walked along the halls for a while, looking around different rooms and making sure there was no one there. And everything seemed clear until they decided to go back upstairs, only to freeze when they caught sight of Kyle Wick holding a gun to Bellamy's head with a crooked grin on his face the second they climbed up.
Wick's grin only widened at the sight of the arriving duo and he moved away from a glaring Octavia to give Gabriella a taunting look, "You're just in time for the show, Ella. I was going to have Octavia take the chip to spare her brother's life but your brain contains so much more useful information then hers."
Gabriella's hand instantly went to the gun strapped to her hip and Wick tisked at the not to subtle movement, "Don't even think about it. Weapons on the floor . . . you too Wells."
Swallowing thickly, Gabriella moved her gaze towards Bellamy who's jaw was clenched and there was sweat rolling down his forehead and there was blood leaking through a hole in the shoulder of his guard-s jacket but he didn't seem to care. She shook her head sadly, "I told you to stay here."
Bellamy's eyes stung as he tried to fight back the tears of guilt as he watched the girl he loved drop her weapons to the ground. He was stupid enough to ask his sister to go down there with him in case the chipped people already found her and Gabriella even though he knew the risk. Turns out he wasn't protecting her like he wanted to. He was just putting her life in danger.
"There's nothing in my head that ALIE needs." Gabriella spat towards Wick with a heated glare, "But fine. Just let all of them go and I'll do whatever you want."
"Good." Wick nodded, seemingly satisfied, he nodded towards one of the unfamiliar grounders next to him, who slowly pulled something out of his pocket and then made his way towards Gabriella and Wells.
He handed one chip to Gabriella and another to Wells. The blonde glare turned more heated, "You said just me."
The grounder holding Octavia to his chest made the show of tightening the grip he had on her throat and Wick tapped the tip of his gun against Bellamy's head and taunted, "You don't make the rules here Ella. You both take the chip or they die and so do you."
"Fine." Wells snapped, snatching the chip in his hand and putting it to his lips, hesitating for only a second before putting it into his mouth.
Gabriella watched him with wide eyes, not knowing how he almost didn't even hesitate. She squeezed her eyes shut for a split moment and then opened them back up to connect them with Bellamy's wide brown ones. He shook his head with desperation visible in his face ─ an emotion she doesn't think she ever saw him wear.
"I'll see you later." she muttered, putting the chip into her mouth, grimacing at the bland taste and then swallowing it, all while keeping her eyes glued on the oldest Blake.
When she opened her eyes back up, her eyes were void of emotion and Bellamy felt his heart break into pieces. He has seen her try ( and fail ) to hide everything she was feeling before but it never looked as effortless as it did now. He just hoped she wouldn't have to do anything she would eventually regret when ( if ) Clarke pulled the kill switch.
"Come along." she said in a monotone voice, nodding in the direction of the throne room. She didn't wait for a response and made her way down the hall as everyone followed behind, holding the Blake siblings hostage the entire time in case they tried to make a run for it.
They reached the throne room to see multiple familiar people just managing to break in.
Gabriella had her head held high as she made her way inside. All while the only thing echoing in her head was an unfamiliar voice of a woman; 𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘊𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘦 𝘎𝘳𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘯.
She headed straight past the grounders and Skaikru and towards Clarke. She was completely oblivious to everything else going on. To Wick falling onto the floor, completely unconscious. To Bellamy and Octavia finally managing to break free and to the former currently being tackled to the floor by her step-father while Wells was fighting Alina off.
Abby saw her coming the second she entered but it was only when Gabriella reached for the knife in her pocket, did she realize she was chipped. She swallowed thickly, thinking over her choice as she gripped the gun in her hand.
She could either save her only daughter by killing the step daughter of the man she loved or she could let her kill her daughter. In the end, she realized what her clear choice should be and rushed to shoot straight at Gabriella.
The oldest Griffin woman wasn't aiming at anything specific but her shooting Gabriella at the bottom of her stomach was enough to have her fall to the ground. She might have not felt any pain for a minute and was only left staring at the ceiling with zero emotion in her eyes but after a moment, the pain hit her like a fucking train and everything came rushing back.
Everything fucking hurt.
She barely fought to keep her tired eyes open, the amount of light in the room making her head hurt.
Wells' eyes widened the second he felt the switch in his brain flip and everything came floating back. The first thing he noticed other than Alina holding a sword to his throat was Gabriella laying on the floor, not looking very much alive.
He brushed off Alina's relieved expression and didn't spare anyone a second glance as he rushed to the Hastings side with alarm written all over his bloody face.
Gabriella squinted slightly, not sure if it was Wells that was actually standing above her, inches away from her face. She didn't have the strength to say anything at first until she remembered seeing Bellamy's shoulder bleeding when she last saw him before taking the chip and she had no idea if he was alright or not, "Is he alright? Is Bellamy safe?"
Wells blinked in surprise, astonished that even on her deathbed, Gabriella Hastings' main concern still remained Bellamy Blake. He struggled to find his words as he put pressure on her bleeding wound, "He's fine. You ─ Ella you're dying."
"No shit, Wells." Gabriella let out a groan of pain at the feeling of Wells' hand on her wound, "Fuck, everything hurts." she squeezed her eyes shut tightly to stop herself from crying.
"Keep your eyes open." Wells pleaded, cupping the side of her face and shaking it when he sensed she started to slip away.
"It hurts." she muttered weakly, feeling the pain in her stomach fade as she slipped into unconsciousness, the only thing that made her realize she wasn't dead, being Wells chanting her name over and over again and the teardrops falling onto her face and onto the bare skin of her neck.
Gabriella Hastings has watched countless of people ─ her friends ─ die. She knew what death looked like. I guess she knew what it felt like too now.
And it fucking sucked.
a/n: lol so that was fun
this is also kinda an update in honor of the 100 ending exactly a year ago because despite the ending being shitty the show still brought me my 3 favorite comfort characters and my comfort ship ( memori )
so that's a wrap for act three! I was going to write a long ass message in honor of it but I'm gonna save the sentimental stuff for the end of act four
so this won't be updated in a while because I have to get my shit together; aka update my other books and prewrite at least half of act four before I start posting it
