"𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘬𝘴, 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘦."
"You are so whipped, Reyes." Gabriella commented with a slightly amused glint in her eyes as she watched Raven stare after Wells' retreating figure with a little dazed grin on her face.
Raven felt blood rushing to her face and she tried to brush her teasing off with a roll of her eyes, "Shut up."
Their attention turned back to the doorway when Alina walked inside and flopped onto the couch next to them, closing her eyes, "I am exhausted."
Gabriella nodded in agreement and put her hands behind her head, hearing Alina sigh when she didn't say anything in response.
"Look I'm sorry." she told her in a surprisingly soft manner, making the blonde's eyebrows shoot up in surprise and her head snap in her direction, "What I did was out of line but I did it because we needed a test subject and we needed to figure nightblood out."
Raven cleared her throat and got up, throwing Gabriella an apologetic look and then giving Alina a barely there smile, "I'm gonna go clean up the lab. Come and get me before you go back to the house."
"Why are you even sorry?" Gabriella asked Alina with furrowed eyebrows once Raven was out of the room, "I didn't know you cared."
Alina shrugged and looked into her lap, "Wells seems to really care about you. Besides, I consider us to be somehow friends." she bit her lip nervously and admitted, "I never really had many of those back home."
"You were a princess." Gabriella scoffed in disbelief, "I doubt that."
"Wells did not have any friends besides you and Clarke either and he was the son of the Chancellor." Alina shot back and looked back at her hands before adding, "I only had Lexa and my brothers. Back then that was enough. Until Kato died in Mount Weather, Peeta disappeared from the face of the earth and Lexa died right in front of me. Roan and Wells are the only ones I have got left."
Gabriella's face softened, "I would tell you I know what you're going through because everyone here lost their loved ones but I never had a sibling. Not an alive one anyway." seeing the confused look the Azgeda Princess was wearing, she added, "It was illegal to have more than one kid on The Ark. That's why Octavia got arrested and in a way why I got arrested. My mom always needed extra because of her pregnancy and I ended up not being able to steal them for her one day because I got fucking sick. She ended up getting caught stealing the rations." she cleared her throat and shrugged, "And then Kane floated her."
"Your father."
"Turns out he's actually not even my father." Gabriella smiled but it was bitter-sweet, "I hated him for almost as long as I can remember and it took me massacring an entire bunker of people at Mount Weather to realize there were no good guys."
"I always saw you as one of the good guys." Alina told her quietly, her eyes narrowing at her softly, "Whenever Wells talked about you, or Raven or Bellamy you were always the good guys."
Gabriella shrugged, "In his eyes we are. If you ask your brother it's probably quite the opposite." she cleared her throat and sat up further, "Now that we're done with the depressive trauma sharing, I want you to tell me what's going on with you and Wells at the moment."
"We are more on again and off again than anything else." Alina explained but when Gabriella gave her an unconvinced look, she sighed in defeat, "He keeps me centered and I am the thing holding him back from going after what he really wants. Clarke."
"Oh." Gabriella sighed, her eyes filling with sympathy. She didn't want to waste her time lying to the girl next to her because she ( like everyone else on this damn planet ) was aware of the fact that Wells Jaha will probably always love Clarke Griffin. As much as she didn't like it, it was the truth.
The two of them always sort of clicked and while Clarke became the type of person to hide her emotions when they landed on Earth, Wells wore his emotions on his sleeve and was incredibly easy to read. He also loved too easily and had extreme attachment issues which is probably the only reason he and Gabriella actually became sort of friends again.
"It's funny that it's always the one you can't shake off even if you know better," Gabriella said after a moment of silence and let out a breathy chuckle, "and you always know better."
Alina nodded in agreement with a small humorous smile, "What about you? It's the curly headed one, right? Bellamy?"
The Hastings let out an amused huff, "Is it that obvious?"
"Very."
"Like I said." Gabriella sighed with a small smile, "I just can't shake him off. He got under my skin a long time ago."
-
Gabriella didn't know why the hell she stayed behind in the lab to get some extra parts back to Arkadia but she wasn't going to sit on her ass and do nothing. Work always helped her take her mind off the messy things in her life and that was exactly what she needed right now.
Abby trashed the radiation chamber, there was no way for Gabriella, Wells and Clarke to test their nightblood that didn't include walking in the black rain ── which Alina happily suggested but Gabriella didn't hesitate to shoot down the second she did.
Murphy shrugged Gabriella's concern as he climbed the ladder to open up one of the vents, "I got it."
"You sure?" Gabriella raised a knowing eyebrow with a ghost of a smirk on her lips, "It's pretty heavy."
Not answering her taunting question, Murphy took out the opening and immediately almost fell off the ladder because he was close to losing his balance. Gabriella's eyes widened and she grabbed the sides of the ladder to stop it from rocking.
Murphy awkwardly cleared his throat, "I'm fine."
Gabriella and Raven shared an amused look, the former snorting under her breath while he pursed his lips to hide his grin.
"This is why they left us behind?" Emori asked in a bored tone, raising her eyebrows at Raven in a questioning manner, "To scavenge tech?"
"Hey, we talked about this." Murphy told her gently, "We didn't get left behind. They're coming back."
Emori looked far from impressed or convinced, "Forgive me if I don't believe what your people say anymore."
"Murphy's actually right." Raven chimed in with a cocky grin, "Don't worry, they might ditch him, but we're too awesome to leave behind. Congratulations, Emori. You get to live in a hole in the ground for five years. Thanks for playing."
Oh, and another thing.
Kane radioed two days ago telling them that he, Monty and Jaha managed to find a bunker that could fit five hundred people inside. And if they were lucky enough, there wouldn't be another major war before the world ended to decide who gets the bunker.
Gabriella's lips tugged into a small amused smile but she didn't say anything, only kept filling up one of the boxes. She passed the box to Wells and watched him place it with the other boxes Murphy was going to carry outside.
"Come on. At least we get to live." Murphy shot back, his words making the mechanic roll her eyes.
"Said the cockroach to the raven."
Chuckling once again, Gabriella picked up her worn out guards jacket that was laying over a chair and threw it over her shoulder, placing her bag over her shoulder too and therefore missing the dazed look on Raven's face.
"You don't hear that?" she asked while looking between all four of them.
Gabriella's eyebrows furrowed and she stiffened when she saw her best friend begin to walk towards the rocket, "Someone get the seizure kit. Now. It's in the office. She's having another episode."
"No!" Raven was quick to stop Murphy from walking away, "No, it's ── it's okay. I'm fine. Put that stuff with the gear for the last run. I'll start with the processors."
"No." Gabriella didn't hesitate to block her way, her worried look replacing the strict leader face she only used with the other delinquents or her fellow guards, "You're not coding. The last time you told me you were fine you had a seizure a few hours later. I can always try to calm you down with the meditation Luna taught me but we both know how that will go."
"I'm not coding." Raven narrowed her eyes back at her, "I'm unhooking." she turned to look between Murphy and Wells with a pointed look, "Now do what I said. Then you can take your break. I'll need some time with this."
She didn't spare them another glance and lowered herself to the ground but Gabriella still wasn't budging.
"I'll do it." she blurted out, "Get back up and tell me what to do. You did it with Clarke in the dropship now. I'm just a faster learner than her so this won't take that long." when Raven opened her mouth to try and argue, she cut her off, "You're not dying on my watch, Birdie. So get the fuck up and give your ALIE brain a break. Use your default brain for a few minutes. I honestly prefer that one much more."
-
Gabriella knew that leaving Raven alone for two minutes because she had to use the bathroom was a bad idea because when she walked back into the lab, she saw the rocket was opened again. She shook her head and quickened her pace to get towards the rocket and her eyes widened when she saw that Raven was seizing again.
She quickly pushed her on her side and then she slipped her jacket off her body and placed it under Raven's shaking head. Her hands were shaking but she forced them to calm down as she hovered above Raven's body. She didn't remember much from first aid class but she did know that unless you knew how to use a seizure kit correctly ( something she, of course, did not know how to use ) the best thing to do was to sit next to the person having the seizure and to wait for them to calm down.
To her relief, the seizure only lasted for around three minutes but those three minutes felt more like three hours. As soon as Raven was fully conscious, she helped her sit onto the seat in the rocket and went to get her a bottle of water from the fridge.
When Gabriella came back downstairs with the bottle of water, she was displeased to see that Raven was already going back to work. She was trying to fix the radio that stopped working while Kane was informing them of the newfound bunker.
"Raven." she immediately scolded and placed the bottle of water next to her that the brunette mechanic immediately grabbed, "You're killing yourself. This isn't fucking healthy and you and I both know it."
In response, Raven let out a heavy sigh and downed half of the bottle in one big sip. She put the bottle down and closed it before going back to work.
Gabriella sighed and her eyebrows furrowed in worry, "Rae, I'm worried about you."
Raven just clenched her jaw and stayed silent for a few seconds, only to snap and yell, "Stop! Stop!" she placed her hands on the sides of her forehead, "God, you're not real. You're not real. You're just . . . "
"Raven, what the hell?" Gabriella muttered in confusion. Raven gave her an almost fearful look and then turned her head to the opposite side of where her best friend was standing.
"What the hell do you want from me?" she whispered towards no one besides 𝘢𝘪𝘳, the action making Gabriella's worry and confusion only increase further. There were tears gathering in Raven's eyes in the few seconds the two spent in silence, during which Gabriella was trying to read her facial expressions to realize what the hell was happening.
"I've run all the simulations." Raven's shaky voice broke the silence, "There's not enough fuel to get back." more confusing and tense silence, and then she muttered in almost awe, "You can help me spacewalk?"
For the first time in weeks, hell maybe even months, there was hope and excitement visible in the eyes of Gabriella's best friend and as much as she didn't want to take that away from her. She was completely and utterly confused about what the hell was going on and concerned for her well-being.
Gabriella took a deep breath and placed a gentle, almost wary, hand on Raven's shoulder that seemed to snap her out of whatever vision she was having.
"Becca." was the first thing that Raven blurted out, moving to grip her hand in her own, "We have to get the rocket ready. Gabi . . . we all know they aren't coming back for us, not before it's too late. We can get the rocket ready and get to the ring before Praimfaya hits." a hopeful smile lit up on her face as she tilted her head with small tears in her eyes, "It's just going to be me and you, El. Is that enough?"
Raven finally said what Gabriella didn't want to admit to herself since everyone left her, Raven, Emori and Murphy alone on the island. They weren't going to come back because they were too busy to do so. The four of them weren't relevant to them. Not anymore.
"Just me and you." Gabriella repeated with a small smile as she squeezed her hand back, "Like always."
-
Gabriella was too busy trying to fix the radio on the upper floor of the lab while Raven and her ALIE slash Becca brain were working on the rocket. She almost didn't register Miller's voice from the doorway behind her.
"Ella."
Her head snapped back in surprise and her eyes briefly widened in surprise before she sobered up and a wave of guilt hit her for even thinking he was going to leave them behind. This was Miller, one of the most loyal people she knew. He never left her behind before. Not in the dropship when he always went out of his way and against Bellamy's orders because he was aware that most of the time, her plans were much better than his, and definitely not in the first war with the grounders when she needed someone to have her back. He always had her back.
"You didn't think I would leave you behind did you, Queenie." he told her with a small coy smirk, "Your ex and his new girlfriend are already packing up the boat. Are you and Raven all packed or what?"
"We didn't think you were going to come back." Gabriella admitted, blurting the words out before she could even think twice about doing so.
Miller's face fell, but only for a second, and a moment later he offered her his usual grin, "I can't believe you doubted me even for a second. Go get Raven and get your things. Mass fiery death in five days."
Gabriella gave him a small smile and a nod, watching him leave the room before going downstairs to Raven.
"Raven." she called, waiting for her to take her helmet off and then saying, "Miller came back for us. Praimfaya is here in five days which means we need to hurry . . . that is until you still want to go through with the whole space thing?"
"I'm not going to the bunker." Raven told her, taking her gloves off, "I'm not asking you to stay with me. I know you would prefer to spend the next few years in the bunker with Bellamy, and Octavia and the others."
"Well if you're staying I'm staying too." Gabriella said without a second thought.
"I can't force you to stay or to spend five years alone when I finally ── "
"Woah, you're not forcing me to do anything." she quickly cut Raven off "If you're going down I'm going down right next to you, you hear me Reyes? We started this together, might as well end it that way too. I'm not letting you go through this alone. If you die, I die too."
Raven's eyes filled with tears as she pulled Gabriella into a strong hug, her eyes wrapping tightly around her neck and making Gabriella's wrap easily around her waist as she rested her chin on Raven's shoulder.
"Why are you two taking so long?" Murphy's voice demanded as he walked down the stairs, "Whatever isn't packed, you need to leave it. It's time to go."
"We're not going." Gabriella told him, crossing her arms over her chest and immediately preparing for the argument she knew was coming.
"What the hell are you talking about?" Murphy demanded with furrowed eyebrows.
"I'm dying, Murphy." Raven sighed, like she already made up with the fact and nodded towards her brain scan that showed the tumor on her brain but he simply scoffed.
"Come on. Abby said if you didn't use your brain, we ── "
"We're past that now." she cut him off.
Murphy narrowed his eyes between the engineer flash mechanic duo and then looked around the lab, taking note of the two suits there. He swallowed and titled his head at his ex girlfriend, "You're going to space?"
"Do you have any idea what it feels like to be in pain every day?" Raven asked once she realized Gabriella wasn't going to do anything but give him a curt nod, "When I was spacewalking, everything was right. I just want that again."
"I'm sorry." Murphy told her, sounding a little ashamed, "I'm sorry for doing this to you, Raven."
Raven followed his gaze to her leg and shook her head, "This is not your fault, Murphy. I could deal with losing my leg. But losing my mind . . . "
"What do you want me to tell the others?" Murphy asked them softly when he realized that she wasn't going to finish her sentence.
"Tell them I floated myself." Raven said, allowing more tears to fall down her cheeks and chuckling at her own poor joke.
Murphy sighed sadly and the two shared a short hug before he turned to Gabriella and tilted his head with tears building up in his eyes, "What do you want me to tell Bellamy?"
"That I love him." she immediately said, clenching her jaw to keep herself from crying too, "And that I went down trying to save one of our own." she didn't allow him to hug her, knowing that it would probably only make it harder for both of them. Instead, she pushed his chest playfully with a teary smile that didn't quite reach her eyes, "Now, go. Survive. Save your own ass and be a damn cockroach like always. Try to forget about me." 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘯𝘤𝘦. 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘰 𝘪𝘵 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯.
He gave her a curt nod and rubbed his nose, "I'll see you in hell, Ellie."
He gave the two of them one last sad look and then turned on his heel, walking towards the stairs and away from view.
"Yeah." Raven's louder voice made Gabriella turn away from where Murphy was used to standing and towards her, "Yeah, okay. Sorry. Right. Where were we?"
Realizing she was probably talking to Becca, Gabriella let out a sigh and wiped her face dry, shaking off all the thoughts about Bellamy, Murphy and the rest of her people ready to enter the bunker and focusing on getting to space before the end of the world hits.
