A smile is all I need

The scenery around them was upmost perfect. They were standing at the top of the Eiffel Tower. A light breeze hit her face, swaying her bangs into her eyes. She honestly could care less. The midnight sky captured them in a tight black hold, neither of them able to move. Faint lights of Paris shone over the streets, it is a beautiful sight, but neither of them paid a heed of attention to it. The crescent moon brighter then any of the stars, reflected off of his glowing green eyes. All was perfect, but the moment they both shared. A moment they won't forget. Can't forget.

From a stranger who happened to see them, might think it was awkward the way the stood in front of each other, just staring without one blinking moment. But they would be wrong. She relished every moment she was having with him, even if it was in silence. She took in all his characteristics, from the way his green eyes gleamed in the moonlight, to the tiniest freckle on his cheek. He did the same, different expressions crossing his face, every time he looked at somewhere new on her face.

She slightly smiled at his expression when it changed from confusion, to surprise, to a smirk.

"What?" she asked.

He jumped at her voice, only going back to his classic smirk.

"It's just that, you're just...just."

"Just what?" Ladybug asked somewhat amused and annoyed at the same time.

"Just...so beautiful," He exclaimed with dreamy eyes.

Ladybug laughed, "Silly kitty, always trying to flirt,"she shook her head. She was surprised to see his expression change more serious.

"It's not flirting when you truly care for that person," Ladybug frowned. He will never stop until he gets what he wants, something she had always admired about him, but always hated. Sadly it can't be that way, not everyone gets what they want. Like how she would never get Adrien. Something she try's to not remind herself of. Too late.

Ladybug signed, if only there was an easier way. To just plainly say, It's been a good run, gonna miss you, see ya, then leave without a thought. Ha, like that would ever happen. How could she forget someone who has been by her side for years. How could she not care about someone who she loves-in a friendship way-and just leave him.

If only they could tell each other's identities, maybe they could hang out just as friends, instead of partners. She never really understood why they weren't aloud to tell people, especially each other. She would trust Chat with her life, let alone her identity. Maybe he will have a chance with her like he always wanted. But just like him, she will never give up on her crush, even if Adrien shut her down once already. She's shut Chat down thousands of times before, yet he never quit and still isn't.

They spent hours sitting on a bench looking out on the city. They talked about their first meeting, which made them laugh. They talked about the akumas that they fought, every one of them, from Stoneheart, to their last one, The Razor, who was a barber who wasn't getting paid enough. His sharp blades were thrown throughout the city.

During the fight, The Razor swung a razor Ladybug's way, Chat Noir shielded her with his body, by doing so he got a long cut down his arm. The cut was gushing out the metallic red substance, for sure going to leave a nasty scar.

He told her he was okay, that as long as she didn't get hurt, he was happy. She was so mad at him for doing that, a reckless move on his part, but he was smiling. The whole time she was ranting about his risk, he was smiling. Which only made her more angry.

She tended to his wound in silence. Glaring at him when ever he gave her a dreamy look. In all the years they have fought akumas, The Razor had  to be the worst one. She told him that, but he disagreed. He said that was the best one, because if he didn't jump in front of her, he would regret it for the rest of his life. She swore he was the stupidest person she has ever met.

He told her that Dark Cupid was his least favorite. The reason was because, he hated that he called her so many bad things. Even though he had no memory of what happened, he still regrets it and thinks about it all the time, being it happened years and years ago. The only thing he didn't regret during that akuma, was saving her from being shot by that arrow instead.

"Why did you keep on saving me, I could have coped with it," Ladybug explained.

"No," he said seriously,"I promised to not let you get hurt,"

"Since when?"

"Since I knew you where to special and kind to get hurt," Ladybug blushed. She hates when he's over protected of her, but it makes her feel warm inside. She feels like he might actually love her. Though she doubted it, since he was only just head over heels with a crush, who just so happens to be the clumsiest person you will ever meet. None of his flirts mean anything. Right?

"Tell me more about yourself. We spend most of our time fighting akumas, that I didn't realize I don't know anything from your civilian life," Chat said, eager to hear what she will say.

Ladybug thought for a moment, picking out the things that won't give anything away, if he knew her in civilian life.

"Well, um, I have one best friend, I love fashion, I...have no pets?-"

"-No," Chat interrupted."you have one pet, me,"Chat interrupted.

"-haha, I have you, I love to bake, my favorite color is pink, aaaannndd, um, my favorite spot in Paris is the Eiffel Tower."

"Ooh, so original," Chat said sarcastically. Ladybug nudged him in the rib, which got a yelp in response.

"How about you, mister I'm so smart?" Chat chuckled.

"Well, I also have one best friend, I like cameras, just how they like me," Ladybug rolled her eyes, "straight A's in Physics, that's right, I know I'm just that amazing. Favorite color is green, and lastly, my personal favorite, I have you." He grinned.

Ladybug slightly blushed, mentally thanking that it's pitch black outside.

"Straight A's in physics? Wow, finally you are good at something." Which got a glare from her partner, that only made her laugh.

"Do you like jewelry?" Chat asked out of no where.

"Um, I guess, why?" Chat smirked.

"Close your eyes,"

"What?!" She panicked.

"Don't worry," he reinsured, "I'm not playing any tricks, don't you trust my bugaboo?" It's been a while since he has last called her that, a name that gave her trust. She closed her eyes, waiting for his surprise.

After a few seconds of some shuffling and a small click noise, he told her to open her eyes. Ladybug was surprised to see him holding a small red box that held a silver chained neckless. The pendant was a black ladybug, and instead of black spots, they were emerald green stones.

Her breath was taken away from the gorgeous gift. She grabbed the box out of Chat's hands, and expected the ladybug pendent carefully.

"Chat, are those really emeralds?" Though she doubted it was.

"Only the best for my lady." He smiled.
Ladybug looked at him like he grew real cat ears. Which only made Chat worry.

"You don't like it, do you?" Chat frowned.

"No, no, no,"Ladybug defended, "It's amazing, I love it. It's just that, it must of cost you thousands of dollars. I refuse to take it, so you can get your money back." She pushed the box back into his clawed hands. He grinned, and gave her a laugh.

"Oh, my bugenette, I forgot to tell you, I'm part of a pretty wealthy family. It really is nothing, trust me. Only the most expensive for the most lovely, after all."

She wouldn't have guessed. Chat Noir was wealthy? And wealthy enough to let a probably five thousand dollar neckless, easily slide? Who is this guy under his mask?

She watched, still stunned, as he took out the neckless from the box, then undid it.

"May I?" he asked. She slowly nodded, as he leaned in closer to her, only a foot away from possibly kissing her. Even though his focused on the neckless, She could tell by his unsteady heart beat, that he wanted to lean in closer, eventually closing the distance. She starred wonderingly into his eyes, as he fumbled with the hook. Once he got it, he straightened the pendant, and leaned back with a noticeable blush. Only realizing that he wasn't the only one.

"T-there," his voice cracked, he coughed trying to cover it, but failed. "All better. A reminder of when you where Ladybug, and a reminder of me." he smiled warmly.

She felt for the neckless, that settled right underneath her collarbone. Feeling through the grooves of the emerald stones, her finger touching every crease and detail.

"I wouldn't think that they made these." She wondered.

"Cause they don't." Ladybug whipped her gaze over to him, she opened her mouth, but Chat put a clawed finger against her mouth to silence her.

"It was just a plain request, that happened to involve five real emeralds, and black tourmaline."

"What?! And black tourmaline?! How rich are you?" Ladybug asked, shoving his finger away in a state of shock.

"You have no idea." he grumbled, an action that surprised Ladybug even more, if it was possible.

"I feel bad for not getting you anything." She frowned, looking into her lap.

"Don't be," Chat gently grabbed her chin, lifting her head up so she could meet him in the eyes, "You're smile is all I need."She blushed at the comment, not alone the gently contact.

Why was he being so serious tonight? Maybe, because this is the last night he will ever see her? That's seems about right. But seriously, thousands of dollars neckless, that he personally designed, yet states that her smile was all he needed?! All he has to do is say something, then there you go, a smile. And he could've found a cheap ladybug neckless and painted it, instead of the real thing! So stubborn.

Then she had the greatest idea ever, something that she bet he was waiting years for. This was going to be good.

"No really, you need something in return. And I know just the thing." She smirked.

"Ooh, really? Do I need to close my eyes too?" he grinned.

"Whatever you'd like" She said sweetly. Chat closed his eyes, she noticed his tail/belt was swinging side to side.

She quickly leaned forward and planted a kiss on the cats cheek. She lingered there for a moment, and could feel his cheeks burning beneath her lips. She pulled away to see a wide eyed, tomato faced cat with an idiot smile plastered on his face.

After about a minute of laughing, while the trembling cat tried to keep his composure, he finally came back to his senses.

"Best. Present. Ever. Though no offense my lady, but you missed my lips."He grinned, leaning close to her face. She pushed his nose with her finger, making him lean back.

"No offense kitty, but either way, you would've still look like a tomato." Ladybug giggled, earning the delight of her partners blush.

She looked out to the city, only to realize that they have been talking all night. It was already dawn, which meant they would have to return their miraculous's in just a few hours. She felt a stab in her stomach, like it just broke into a million pieces. The once light, refreshing air suddenly went dense. Her lungs unable to breathe, causing her heart to plummet and beat faster.

She glanced over at Chat, who had the same dread expression on his face.

"I guess this is it." He muttered.

"Yeah." That's all she could say. What could she say? She was new to this whole saying goodbye thing. She skimmed through the series of thing to say in her head, none worth the pain she felt.

"This whole night you didn't say one pun." She said quietly, taking Chat and even herself off guard. "Why?" her eyes went glossy, not daring to let them out.

After a long moment of hesitation, he answered.

"I-I guess that for once, I needed to be serious. I know that you don't like them. They are pretty stupid." He frowned.

"What?! Are you kidding me?! Of course I like them, I've always did! And you shouldn't be serious, I hate when you get serious. It pains me to know that you think these things, and to see you this way. It's not like you! Please, stop being serious!!" By the end of her rant, she was practically screaming, three loose tears falling down her cheeks.

Chat's face was in a state of shock, that turned into sympathetic smile. He swept his thumb over her fresh tears, being careful not to scratch her.

"There, much better." he purred. She smiled, his purring gave her life.

"Time to say goodbye." she sighed.

Chat Noir shook his head. "No. We will see each other again, I promise you we will." He rolled his tung on every 'r'.

"And how exactly do you know that?"

"I just do. It's not something you are told, but more that you just know."

"Since when were you all Buda?" he raised a brow.

He chuckled. "You will happen to know that this cat knows a lot of things." He smirked.

"Oh really?"She raised her eyebrow.

"Physics, remember?"

She laughed. "How could I forget about your amazing physics ability!" She said, pretending to be shocked.

"A catastrophicy that is now forgiven, m'lady." he smirked.

"Oh thank goodness. Wouldn't want the cat to get angry." she giggled.

"A furrocious sight you won't want to see." he winked, making the duo laugh.

When the laughing dyed down, there was an awkward silence. Ladybug glanced at Chat, who was already looking at her with a sad smile. In just a few minutes he will be gone, along with his puns, his flirting, his laughter, is green eyes, his nicknames, she could go on. But it would take her a whole day for her to list of all the amazing things about Chat Noir, that she will never forget. At least she hoped.

She couldn't help it, Ladybug jumped into Chat's arms, tightening her grip within every tear she felt falling. His grip was the same, clinging onto his lady for the last time. They stood there in each others arms, not caring about how tight they are hugging. Ladybug now crying non-stop, and Chat rubbing his hand against her back as comfort.

When they released each other's death grip, Chat help her swipe away the crashing tears that seemed to still not stop.

"Shh" Chat whispered, trying to calm her down. "Don't cry my lady. It makes me sad to see you cry. Shh, it okay. We will see each other again."

"H-how?" She whimpered.

"I will use all 8 lives to find you my lady, don't you worry."

Ladybug laughed through her tears. "What happened to your 9th life?"

Chat smiled. "It went long ago when I first met you, my lady."

Her heart was strung. "If you'll use your lives, then I'll use my only one to find you too, kitty."

"Don't."

"And why not?"

"Your one life is to purrecious to waste on me. Besides I will find you anyway, even if I have to restart those dreaded nine lives all over again."

He made his last bow, and last kiss on Ladybug's hand. And his last smirk. No wait. He will find her, she just knows it, somehow, for some reason, she trusts him. Her kitty will find her, someday. Someday, she will see him bow to her again. Kiss the back of her hand, all while having his classic smirk plastered on his face.

Before she could think, he pulled out his baton and with one throw, was leaving. Leaving her, to someday find her. She was smiling, until she kicked herself in the throat.

How could she let him go? What if he never does end up finding her? What if she will never see those green eyes again?

What a mistake. She needed him, needed him in her life. She knew it was selfish, but she couldn't help it. She needed her kitty. So what, they had to give up their miraculous's? She can live without her earrings. Her one life is already dead without him.

Placed her fingers on the neckless he gave her. The best gift she has ever gotten. Given to her by someone dear to her. Mon chaton, she thought.

Ladybug looked out over the Paris buildings, were she could still see him leaping over, one by one. To quick to function, he was disappearing into the sky.

She stood there. And stood there. And stood there. And stood there. Not budging. She could only watch him fade away from her grasp. And she stood there. She squeezed the pendent.
