Chapter Three
Chloe

I wake up and check my e-mail like I always do, waiting to see his name pop up. It doesn't.
I check my phone, hoping to see missed calls or texts with his name as the contact. There aren't any.
Talking to Lisa made me feels slightly better, but not by much.
I still can't stop thinking of him. It corrupts my mind, it interrupts my day. It won't leave me. The thoughts of him won't leave.
And it's driving me crazy.
Am I just pathetic? For chasing something that isn't there?
Am I crazy? For trying to believe it could work?
I don't know.
I don't know.
All I know is that I miss him.
All I know is that I want him back.
"Good morning." Lisa greets as I walk into the kitchen, "Feeling better?"
"Much." I smile, reaching for a pancake and trying to fool her, trying to fool myself, that I'm okay.
Lisa just narrows her eyes, "Liar." she says.
"Am not!"
"Chlo, we have been best friends since third grade, I think I've known you long enough to be able to tell when you're lying and when you're telling the truth. Right now, you're lying."
"Fine, I'm lying."
She flashes a smile, "See? I told you. I know you better than anyone."
I sigh, "I know you do. Now tell me how to fix it."
Lisa's smile disappears, "Broken hearts aren't easy to mend, Chlo. You can't just fix one."
"When will it stop hurting?"
"I don't know." she whispers, "I don't know."
Suddenly the only thing I'm aware of is how much my heart aches. I realize that I can't make it work, I realize that he won't come back.
I clutch my chest, scared that my heart will shatter to pieces all over the floor.
My eyes fill with tears as I collapse into her arms, "It hurts," I cry out, "It hurts so badly."
"I know," Lisa soothes, stroking my hair as I weep, "I know."
"He isn't coming back!" I exclaim, my breathing getting harder, faster.
"It's okay."
"It's not! It's not okay... It isn't..." and then everything goes black.
