I'm working out and talking to Tara when both the fire and EMS alarms go off. Tara and I fly out the door.

Throwing on my gear, I run to the engine with the others.

"What is it Cap?" Trav asks, as we pull out of the garage, lights on, and sirens blaring.

"A townhouse is on fire, and the fire's spreading quickly." Cap replies. "Once we get there, we need to be up and running. Liara, find the second nearest hydrant. We need to draw both hoses to stop the fire from spreading. The houses nearby have been evacuated, but we need the whole row of houses empty. It's hot, and the wind isn't in our favor."

"Any civilians Cap?" Trav asks.

"The family is trapped. A kid, two parents, one dog."

"Cap, there's a hydrant a street over." I say as we come to a stop in front of the burning houses.

"Alright, get the hose there, now." Cap shouts as we all jump out. I grab the longer hose, and start running.

"Everyone, evacuate your homes." Matt is yelling into the megaphone. I can hear him from a street over. I find the hydrant and quickly connect the hose.

"Cap, the hose is connected." I say into my radio.

"Turn it on and get back." Cap shouts back.

"Copy."

I turn the water on and run back to the truck. Miles, TK, Matt, and Trav are at the hoses (two people at each one), working on the flames that spread to the other houses. They can't hose down the house with civilians, because the civilians would drown with the water pressure.

"Liara, we have to go in." Cap shouts.

"Okay Cap." I say, grabbing an oxygen tank, a mask, and an extinguisher.

"Keep the fire at bay." Cap shouts to the others.

He looks at me and nods. I give him a nod back.

We run into the burning house.

"Go up," Cap orders.

I nod, give him a thumbs up, and find my way to the stairs, putting as much of the flames out with my extinguisher as I go. I make my way up the stairs. I reach the first door.

"Austin FD. Is anyone in here?" I shout.

I hear someone coughing.

"We're in here!" a woman shouts.

"Who's we, ma'am?" I ask.

"My husband, he's hurt, and unconscious."

"Cap, the parents are in the first room." I say into my radio. "One's hurt."

"Ground floor's empty. I'm on my way up. Get them out if you can."

"Copy Cap." I say into my radio.

I try the doorknob, but it doesn't budge. It's probably melted shut.

"I'm coming in." I shout. "Move away from the door."

I wait for a few seconds and kick the door. It takes two tries before the door opens.

I run in just as Cap comes up. He goes to the next door.

"Is anyone here?" I hear him shout. A few moments later, the door bangs open.

The room I opened has small fires, but nothing too serious. I put them out with the extinguisher. There is a man and a woman, hunched in a corner. The man is burned, and unconscious.

"Austin FD." I say, walking closer. "You're safe, come with me." I hold my hand out to the woman, and lift the man. He's heavy, but manageable.

I get them out of the house. I hear Cap right behind me with a kid. I hear the panting of a dog too.

"We're coming out hot." I say into the radio line. "We need medical attention, North side."

"Copy that." TK replies as we all run out of the house..

"My child!" the woman shouts as TK and his team rush up to us. I set her husband on the gurney.

"Ma'am, your child is right here." Cap says to the woman, handing her the boy in his arms.

"No, no. My four month old. She's asleep in the last room!"

"But you said there was only one kid." Cap says.

"No, I have a four month old, Lina."

"Cap, the house is gonna collapse." Miles says, running over.

"My baby!" the woman shouts.

"Ma'am, ma'am, you need to calm down." TK says to the woman, trying to calm her down as he works on her evident concussion.

"My baby! You need to let me get to my baby!" the woman shouts.

"Ma'am, no one can go into the building, it's dangerous." Cap says to her.

"No! She can't die! Lina!"

Throwing the extinguisher down, I run back into the house.

"Strand!" I hear Cap shout.

"Liara!" TK shouts at the same time.

I run up the stairs, and to the last door. I kick it open to find the room in flames.

"Lina!" I shout. "Lina!"

"Lia, get out." TK's voice says through the radio.

Nothing. I see a baby crib.

"I see a crib!" I shout, coughing. The smoke is choking me, but it's nothing I'm not used to.

"She's in the crib!" I hear the woman yelling in the background.

I look up to see the ceiling about to cave in. Running to the crib, I see the baby and pull her out.

"Lina!" I shout.

Nothing. I can see her tiny chest rising and falling, but barely.

"Liara Gwenyth Strand, get out of there right now!" TK shouts.

"TK, I got her." I say. "But she's barely breathing. She inhaled too much smoke."

"Liara, the house is gonna go down!" Cap shouts. "Get out, NOW!"

"TK, what do I do?" I ask, ignoring Cap. I hear a creaking noise, and I know I have to get out of the room.

As I run out of the room, the ceiling caves in, throwing me and Lina forward.

"TK?" I shout. Nothing. "TK? Cap?"

Still nothing. Shit. My radio must be damaged.

I try to get up, but find my leg pinned down. I scream in pain. I try pulling my foot loose, but it's stuck. I turn around to see a part of the threshold on my foot. The way I fell, there's no way to get my leg out. I feel all the energy drain out of me. I'm about to give up when I look at the small bundle I'm holding.

If I want to reunite Lina with her mother, I have to do this. And to do that, there's only one thing to do. I have to break my leg.

I look at Lina again. The poor girl has to go through this at four months old. She has to live, she has to make it back to her mother.

Taking a deep breath, I twist my leg and my body. I scream at the blinding pain shooting up my leg.

Gritting my teeth, I pull my foot out. I can feel the warm blood on my leg. Getting up, I half run, half limp down the stairs, trying to keep Lina safe. The front is up in flames. I won't make it out alive if I go through the flames, even in my turnout gear. I turn around, and go out through the back.

I make it outside just in time. A few moments after I run out of the house, it collapses behind me. I'm thrown to the ground by the force.

"Liara!" I hear TK shout.

"Lia!" Another voice, so full of fear and worry, shouts. That voice...it sounds so familiar. It takes me a moment to place that voice, and when I do, I'm shocked.

It's Blake. But, why is Blake so worried about me?

"TK." I try shouting. My throat is parched, my leg is on fire, and my ears are ringing. "TK, I'm fine." I say.

I doubt he heard me, because he's still screaming my name.

I pull myself up. I look at Lina, who's breathing, but barely. No, no, no, she can't die.

Ignoring the searing pain in my leg, I force myself to run. I run around the two townhouses and to the front.

"TK!" I shout when I reach the front. "TK."

TK turns towards me at the sound of my voice.

"Lia!" he shouts, running towards me.

"I'm okay, take care of Lina," I say, thrusting the baby into his arms. He forgets about me the moment the baby is in his arms. He usually cares a lot about me, but when it comes to babies, I come second. Blake and Tara run over to us, along with the rest of the team.

"Tara, start a line. Blake, get an oxygen mask and the suction tool." TK orders.

"On it Cap." Blake stares at me a moment too long before running back to the ambulance. Tara starts a saline drip and injects it into the baby.

"She's breathing, which is good, but she inhaled smoke and dust. We need to clear her lungs, Cap." TK says. "Tara, keep the drip slow and steady." Tara nods just as Blake runs over with the oxygen mask and suction tool.

"Blake, I need you to hold her still." TK says. Blake nods and holds the baby still.

TK opens Lina's little mouth.

He puts a tiny tube into Lina's mouth, pushing it in until it goes into her throat. Then, he starts to suction the bits of dust out of her lungs.

"Blake, clean her wounds." TK instructs.

Blake nods and gets to work on the cuts and bruises on Lina's small body.

"Cap, she's crashing." Tara says.

TK takes the tube out of Lina's mouth, and puts the oxygen mask on her.

"She lost too much blood Cap." Blake says.

TK turns to Lina's mother.

"What's her blood type?"

"B negative"

"Bla-" TK starts, but Blake is already running to the ambulance.

Less than a minute later, he runs over with two packets of B- blood. He hooks one up to the saline, and starts a drip.

Silence. It's like everyone is holding their breath.

"She's safe, Cap." Tara says with a smile. As if on cue, Lina opens her little eyes.

Everyone rejoices, happy to hear that Lina survived.

"Thank you!" Lina's mother says. "Thank you so much!" She cries and laughs.

I smile. There's nothing more heartwarming than a mother's love for her child.

I start feeling pain again. I guess the adrenaline was masking it up, but it's blinding now. White hot pain starts shooting up my leg. I gasp as I try to hold onto something. But I end up grasping at air. My vision starts turning hazy, and I see spots. My head spins.

"Ty-" I start, but I don't know what I said after. I feel myself falling, and people running to me.

Third Person POV

"Ty-" Liara says, before collapsing. TK turns at the sound of her voice.

"Lia!" TK shouts, running over to her.

He sees her second-degree burns and her leg twisted and bleeding.

"Get the back board!" he shouts to Tara and Blake, who run to the ambulance to get the board and gurney.

"Lia, Lia, can you hear me?" TK shouts, trying to keep her awake. She opens her eyes slightly, but is unable to keep them open.

"TK-" she whispers really quietly.

"Lia?" TK asks.

"TK."

"I'm here. I'm right here. Hang on." TK says.

Tara and Blake run over with the board and gurney.

"Blake, get the ambulance over. We need to get her to a hospital, NOW!" TK says.

Blake runs back to get the ambulance.

"Nash, I need your guys to help lift her." TK says to Captain Wells

"Let's go, be gentle!" Captain Wells shouts to his team.

Everyone runs over and gently puts her onto the back board and then the stretcher.

TK turns to Tara.

"Hook her up with a Saline drip and AB neg" TK tells her.

Tara nods just as Blake comes around with the ambulance. They load Liara into it with the help of the fire team, and head for the hospital, lights on and sirens blaring.

LIARA GOT HURT!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!
