Day 1: Rise and Shine

In the far-off reaches of space, over 1000 lightyears from Earth, a small ranch exists in a place called the Dry Reef on a planet called 'The Far, Far Range.' With plots of land ready to be used and slimes all around it ready to be collected, an oasis of tranquility amidst the vastness of space.

This Ranch had no name, just a distant home for distant hearts.

It is also where your story begins. A young man with an appearance as untamed as the wilderness around you. With hair so disheveled, it resembled the aftermath of a storm, you sported a Vacpack gripped firmly in your hands. Worn-out overalls clung to your body, showcasing the countless hours of hard work and adventure etched into their fabric. A pair of sturdy boots, well-traveled and weathered, and atop your head sat a tattered hat, its brim providing shelter from the scorching rays of the relentless sun that blazed down upon the frontier.

And you were tired. As you gazed across the vast expanse of the Dry Reef, the shimmering heat waves danced in front of your tired eyes. The slimes, peculiar and colorful creatures, hopped and wiggled around the ranch, their curious expressions mirroring your own exhaustion. You sighed, wiping sweat from your brow with the back of your hand.

Y/N: First day, let's do this.

You mumbled to yourself, your voice barely audible over the hum of distant machinery and the occasional slime chatter. Suddenly, a holographic projection flickered to life from your Vacpack. It was a message from Beatrix, your mentor and the previous owner of the ranch, who had gone on to explore other distant regions of the universe.

Beatrix: Hey there, kiddo! How are things coming along on the ranch? I hope you're settling in well. I know it can be overwhelming at first, but trust me, you'll get the hang of it in no time.

Her warm voice echoed in your ears, bringing a sense of comfort amidst the unfamiliar surroundings.

Y/N: I sure hope so.

Beatrix: I know you will but remember, the key to success out here is to observe and adapt. The slimes might seem strange at first, but they'll become your closest companions soon enough. They have their own needs and behaviors, so make sure to learn about them and provide for them accordingly. Oh, and keep an eye out for Plorts, the valuable resource they produce. It'll be your primary source of income on the ranch.

That's good to know at least you won't be broke out here. Wait, did she say they produce plorts like...poop?

Beatrix: And don't forget to explore! The Far, Far Range is full of wonders waiting to be discovered. Keep an eye out for new slimes, rare resources, and hidden areas. Who knows what you might stumble upon?

Her words ignited a spark of excitement within you, reigniting the dwindling flame of determination. You took a deep breath, feeling a renewed sense of purpose.

Y/N: Thanks, Beatrix. I'll make sure to take good care of the ranch. I won't let you down.

Beatrix: I know you won't kiddo. Oh, and before I go, make sure you check out the Slime Science tab on your Vacpack. It'll open up a world of gadgets and gizmos that will make your ranching life much easier.

The hologram flickered, signaling the end of the message.

Beatrix: Good luck, kiddo. I'll be in touch soon. Oh, and one last thing...

You leaned in, eager to catch her final piece of advice.

Beatrix: Have fun! The Far, Far Range is a beautiful place full of wonders. Enjoy the journey, Y/N. I believe in you.

With those parting words, the hologram vanished, leaving you alone under the vast sky of The Far, Far Range. You took a moment to take it all in, feeling the weight of both the challenge and the potential before you.

Y/N: Alright, time to get to work! But where to start?

As you scanned the horizon, your eyes caught a glimpse of the family of pink slimes. They seemed to be playing near a patch of shimmering pink grass, their giggles echoing faintly through the dry air.

Y/N: Bingo

You stealthily crept closer, trying not to disturb them too much. Pink slimes were known for their playful and friendly nature, but they could also be quite mischievous and prone to bouncing away when approached. As you got closer, you could see them bouncing around, seemingly unaware of your presence.

Y/N: Easy does it, just a little closer...

You held your breath and lunged, attempting to catch one of them in your Vacpack, but they all quickly scattered off in different directions, giggling even louder. You groaned as your face flushed red with embarrassment and shame before focusing on them all again.

Y/N: Ok, second time's the charm.

You decided to be more patient this time around. You sat down on the ground, trying to make yourself seem less threatening to the pink slimes. Gradually, they became curious about you and approached cautiously, their bright, beady eyes fixated on your every move.

Y/N: Hey there, little guys. I'm not gonna hurt you; I just want to take care of you on my ranch.

You spoke in a soothing tone, hoping they could somehow understand you. And, to your surprise, it seemed like they did. The bravest one hopped onto your boot, looking up at you with what appeared to be trust and curiosity.

Y/N: Now!

With the quick press of a button, you activated the suction of your Vackpack ready to gather them all up...only to find them already gone, scattering and giggling in all directions again, leaving you completely stunned and incredibly embarrassed once again.

Y/N: Fack! Ok, one more time!

It didn't take long before that one more became two more, and two more became three more, and so on and so forth, until eventually, you laid face down on the rough course ground, completely exhausted as the planet's sunset behind you. As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting hues of orange and purple across the sky, you lay there for a moment, catching your breath and laughing.

Y/N: Well, I guess ranching isn't as easy as I thought. But hey, at least it's fun.

As if the slimes sensed your good humor, a few of them hopped back over to you, their round, jelly-like bodies jiggling with excitement. They seemed to find your antics amusing too.

Y/N: Oh, you like seeing me fail, huh? Alright, fine, you win this round. But I'll get you eventually!

The pink slimes responded with more cheerful squeaks and playful jumps. It was clear they were warming up to you, even if you hadn't quite caught them yet, but then surprisingly enough, the brave one from before, smaller than all his other slime friends, waddled back towards you. This little pink slime looked up at you with its innocent, beady eyes, and it almost seemed like it was trying to tell you something.

Y/N: Hey there, little one. You're not running away this time?

The pink slime responded with a soft cooing sound and nudged its small, squishy body against your hand. It seemed to have taken a liking to you, and you couldn't help but smile.

Y/N: Well, well, it looks like I finally caught one of you. You're a brave little slime, aren't you?

The pink slime wriggled happily, its slimy surface tickling your hand. As you gently petted its soft body, You carefully took the little guy into your hands as not to startle him and held him up high.

Y/N: I got one!!!

You cheered into the night as the little slime danced in your hands...

...and so just like that, your adventure on the Far, Far Range had only just begun. With the promise of discovery, friendship, and a dash of chaos, you stepped into the unknown, ready to shape your own story on this distant ranch among the stars. The future was uncertain, but you knew it was going to be an extraordinary journey.

3:00 AM

You got Starmail!

Rise and Shine!!!

Hey, Y/N

What's it like to sleep for a whole year? I bet your lazy butt didn't notice a thing, huh? Did you dream? Were they dirty dreams, hehe?

What's the Far, Far Range like? Have you started exploring? Is it as beautiful as they say? I bet it's amazing.

I'm probably asking too many questions. I bet you have a lot of work to do on that ranch. I still can't believe it's yours now.

I guess I better leave you to it and keep it short: good luck, Y/N. If anyone can make it out there, it's you.

- Ashle
