Chapter Ten

For the next two months, James and Ginny lived together as roommates, and were practically in perfect harmony with their situation. They both did their jobs at Johnny's, and spent a lot of their free time with each other.

During this time, Ginny began educating James in the magical world she came from. He was fascinated by her stories, especially the ones about Hogwarts and quidditch.

"You know, I never played any sports while I was in school," James remarked on one occasion. "I did my schoolwork the best I could, and then went out and got a job once I graduated high school. Now I'm thinking that might have actually been fun."

"Well, that's a shame. I don't think I could picture you as a sports player, but that doesn't mean you wouldn't have been good at it. I'll have to take you for a ride on my broomstick sometime. I think you'd like it."

As fun as Ginny made fun quidditch sound, James was equally fascinated with Hogwarts, the wizard school she had attended.

"And it's seriously that old?" he asked.

 "Yes, it actually is."

"And all that stuff about the Founders, too?"

 Ginny nodded. "All true."

"So, there really are ghosts and a chamber of secrets?"

"Yep. The Gryffindor house ghost was Nearly-Headless Nick, and I actually almost died in the Camber of Secrets."

James raised his eyebrows. "You seriously almost died down there?"

"Yep. I was eleven, it was my first year at Hogwarts, I was worried about how I would so and what everyone would think of me, and Lucius Malfoy stuck a cursed diary in with my schoolbooks."

James whistled. "Nice guy. But the important thing is that you made it out of it, right? I'm not surprised you made it."

"Well, I probably would have been dead if it wasn't for Harry. You see, everyone already thought I was dead, and the school was going to close down. Harry and my brother Ron went down into the Chamber so they could rescue me and stop Hogwarts from closing."

 "Wow. That's quite the tale."

"Yeah. You know, being under Tom Riddle's control...not something I've ever really forgotten, even though it was over twenty years ago."

James nodded. "Right. Some feelings just never go away, especially something as traumatizing as that."

On the other end of all this, Ginny was secretly beginning to fall for James. She didn't say a word to him about her feelings. It wasn't that she thought he would reject her; in fact, she was afraid that he would say he wanted her, too. Every other time she tried to have a romantic relationship with someone, it always seemed to get messed up somehow.

There was a time when Ginny thought Harry Potter was the only man for her. But since then, James Wilinson had come into her life, and he made her rethink everything she used to think.

The time finally came when James kissed Ginny one night.

It sort of came out of nowhere. One minute, the two of them were sitting on the sofa chatting, and then minute the lips were locked and his arms were around her.

"Hold on a minute," Ginny said, pushing him away. "What was that for?"

 "What do you mean?"

"I mean, what'd you kiss me like that for?"

"I think...it's just because I like you that much," James answered. "I...guess I was kind of wondering if you liked me that much. Come to think of it, I probably should have asked that before I went and kissed you."

"Yes, you probably should have," Ginny said. "You could have given some kind of warning."

She got back into her previous position and didn't say anything else.

"Okay. So...is that not something you would want me to do again?" James asked.

 "I didn't say that."

"Well, you're not really saying anything. I mean, do you like me the way I like you?"

Ginny sighed. "I think I might, James. I've been thinking that for the last few weeks. I do like you that much. But I've been very hesitant to say or do anything about it."

"Okay. Is that anything you want to talk about?"

"No. I don't have a good history with relationships."

"Well, neither do I. Hey, look, I know this is all kind of new and weird, but...would you want to give it a shot?"

Ginny looked up at him, looked into his hopeful eyes, and let a smile creep onto her face. "Yes. Yes, I think I'd like to give it a shot."
