Chapter Seven
Ginny still felt nervous after James left to get groceries. That question about Declan Malfoy had come completely out of nowhere, and she hadn't known how to respond. Maybe she should have acted dumb, and said she didn't know who he meant. Yes, maybe that would have been better. But she didn't; she told him the truth, and she wondered if it was a bad idea.
Why had he asked her if she knew Declan? Why would he think that she, of all people, could have the answers he was looking for? Unless there was something about her that reminded him of that boy. That meant that he could eventually figure out who she really was.
However, Ginny was using that to cover up what she was really feeling. Bringing up Declan Malfoy had stirred up certain loathing inside of her. True, she had never really known him, but she had once despised that man for stealing the heart of the man she had had feelings for. She hadn't forgotten the night Harry told her he had fallen for someone that wasn't her, and how that stung her so badly she hadn't dated anyone in a long time. How did she know they weren't going to leave her for someone like Declan Malfoy? And then she would be left in the dust again.
Ginny sighed and sat down on the sofa, and looked around the apartment. She had really liked it here, and she liked James. It would be a shame to have to leave, but she couldn't stay. It was for James' own good to be kept in the dark. He was better off that way.
She stayed there on the sofa for a few minutes before getting up and going to her room. It seemed she had packing to do.

James had Ginny on his mind the whole time he was at the grocery store. He couldn't believe she actually knew who Declan was. It was the weirdest coincidence, and while he was happy to hear something about Declan, he was also a little freaked out.
Was it just a coincidence that Ginny went to the same school as Declan? What did she know about him? She said she hadn't known him well, but she also didn't seem happy to be talking about him. In fact, she seemed upset that James knew who he was. Ex-friend? Ex-boyfriend? Had something ever happened between them?
James then put aside all those thoughts. It was just the world's freakiest coincidence. That was all.
"Not like it's magic or anything," he said to himself.
He paid for the groceries and headed for home. He was going to text Ginny, but then he remembered she didn't have a phone. They really had to work on that.
When he got home, he called, "Hey, Ginny, I've got groceries! I think we've got to get to Johnny's soon, though."
There was no reply. Ginny wasn't in the living room, and when James went into the kitchen, there was no sign of her there, either.
"Could have at least left me a note," he muttered as he put the bags down.
He thought Ginny had gone out somewhere, but then he heard what sounded like someone crying softly. And it was coming from Ginny's room.
"Ginny?" James went down the hall. The door to Ginny's room was partly open. He could see an open suitcase lying out on her bed. But the strange thing was this: the clothes were floating into the suitcase on their own.
"What the hell-" James pushed the door open wider. "Ginny?"
Ginny was standing in the middle of the room with red-rimmed eyes and tear-stained cheeks. She was gripping what looked like a stick in her hand.
"Ginny, what the hell's going on?" James asked. "Why are you packing up your stuff? Better yet, why are your clothes getting into your suitcase themselves?"
"James," she whispered. She didn't seem to know what to say. "I...I didn't want you to see me like this. I can't stay here with you, James."
"Hey, come here." He went over to her and put his arm around her. "Come on, what's going on? It can't be anything we can't solve, right?"
"Not this, James. You've already seen what I really am." She looked down at the stick in her hand. "I should make you forget all of this. That would be the smart thing to do."
"Why? Ginny, I don't even know what you're talking about. What's going on?"
Ginny looked up at him. "I'm a witch, James."
