Chapter Eleven

 It had been almost a year since Ginny first arrived in New York, and some months since she and James had begun their relationship.

 It actually surprised them both how well things seemed to go for them as a couple. Given that they had both been unlucky with romance in the past, neither one was really sure what to expect from this relationship. They had plenty of arguments, as all couples do at some point, but it was mostly smooth sailing for the pair.

 During this time, they continued to live and work together. They still had their own bedrooms, but on most nights, once they were ready for it, they found themselves sleeping in the same bed, not wanting to be apart for an entire night.

 In the meantime, a few more people were working at Johnny's, so James and Ginny could work less days, which wasn't so bad after the many times James had to hear Kevin say, "So, was I right or what?" James couldn't avoid admitting that his friend was right about his feelings for Ginny and how the two of wound up.

 They were in love and loved living together, but James didn't anticipate that even more changes were coming.

 During dinner at the apartment on one chilly evening, Ginny said, "There's something I've been thinking about."

 "Okay. What's that?"

 "I've been thinking about the possibility of going back to England. My family knows about you, and they keep writing to ask when they'll get to meet you, my mother especially. So, I've been thinking about going. I don't know yet if it'd be temporary or permanent."

 "Well, would you want to move back permanently?" James asked.

 "I don't know yet. I love New York, but I miss England and all my family. But I went back there, I have to ask: would you want to go with me?"

 "Temporarily or permanently?"

 "That's up to you," said Ginny. "It would be great if you wanted to move to England together, but we could stay here and just go visit my family every now and then."

 "I...I don't know," James said. "I've never lived anywhere else but here. It would be weird at first, but I guess I would get used to it. I guess I'd have to talk about it with Stan, since I co-own Johnny's."

 "Okay. Well, think about it, please. I want to know what you think."

 That night, when Ginny had fallen asleep, James still lay awake, thinking about moving away with Ginny. It sounded nice to go to England together and meet Ginny's family. He'd never had much of a family growing up, and he wondered he would handle it, and what they would think of him.

~~~~~~
 "You're doing what?"
 "Stan, please, nothing's official yet," said James. "We just talked about maybe going to England together permanently. Nothing's decided yet."
 Stan sighed. "Well, I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to run off with her. It'd sad to see you both leave, though. I've always liked you, and I definitely like her the first time I met her. You know, there was...something I wanted to tell you about."
 "Um, okay. That sounds slightly ominous."
 "It's not, really," said Stan. "I hope it isn't, at least. My son Andy is coming back to the city. He's gotten himself into some trouble, and he's moving back in here. We've been talking over the phone, getting to know each other again. He sounds like he's genuinely interested in working here."
 "So...if I signed my co-ownership over to Andy, and I'd be free to go to England with Ginny."
 "See? It's all working out, isn't it? We'll have to go over it when Andy gets here, but I think we could definitely make that work. I think you and Ginny should talk about it, see if that's what you want to do."
 "Yes." James smiled and nodded. "Yes, we definitely will. Thank you, Stan, really."
 "Ah, don't mention it. You guys better make up your minds, though, because if this is going to be a long goodbye thing, I'm not standing for it."
 James nodded again. "Yes, sir."
 And he hurried home to tell Ginny the good news.
