Chapter 18
It was a nice three day weekend, but it's over now, and the first day back after was over. I had the tutor that the school requires has been helping me catch up on all the things I've missed. This is the first time the boys have been over rehearsing while I've been tutoring. Surprisingly, they haven't been that much of a distraction.
Band rehearsal and tutoring has been going on for about half an hour when Calum comes upstairs from the basement. I turn as I hear the door open, and smile when I see him. He smiles at me before coming over and kissing the top of my head. "I was just comin' up to grab a drink, Bean." I can't help the blush that comes to my face when he calls me "Bean." We've been dating for two months and he still makes me blush and gives me butterflies. He grabs a drink and waves before heading back downstairs.
After another half hour of boring studies, the boys all come up, probably deciding to have a break. The tutor, Colin and I have just finished my tutoring assignment. The boys start to walk the tutor out, after I come back from putting my books in my room, I see the door is still open and the boys are still over there. I head over to see Calum scarily putting a finger against Colin's chest in a threatening manner. I rush over to get in between the two, not that I'm even strong enough to stop a fight if one were to break out.
"Calum! Calum! What's going on?! Ashton! Michael! Luke! Why are you all letting this happen? And what is happening?"
Calum explains first, "I'm just making sure Colin knows his place, Babe." Ignoring the butterflies, I try to understand what he's saying.
"Are you really threatening him? What did he even do?" I furrow my brows while looking at Calum.
"Are you kidding me? He's going after you!"
"You're being ridiculous, let the boy go, Calum"
Colin gets brave enough to say something, "Yeah, let me go, Calum"
Calum backs off the boy, and walks into the house. I motion for the rest of the boys to walk inside, and they do, but begrudgingly.
Once all the boys are inside I look to Colin to apologize. "Colin, I'm so sorry for whatever Calum did."
"It's okay, babe, it didn't scare me." My nose scrunches in disgust when he calls me babe. He leans forward to try to put his arm around my waist or kiss me, but I kick him where it hurts before he can do anything. It might sound kind of drastic, but it really isn't considering what I've been through.
"I am not your babe. And you are not allowed to kiss me. And do not expect to continue tutoring with me, understood? Oh and I take back my apology for Calum. You deserve it, douchebag."
Before he gets too many explicatives out at me, Calum and the boys rush out of the house, as they were watching and listening from the window next to the door. Calum pushes him back towards the car he used to get here, and yells for him to leave as Ashton and Michael usher me inside, as Luke is making sure Calum has it handled.
The guy leaves, but not before throwing a lot more explicatives out at everyone. I'm sitting on the floor right inside the door, waiting for Calum and Luke, and say, "I guess, mom'll have to call the school about finding me another tutor." I laugh until it hits me how much of a mess I just made. I bury my red face in my hands.
I'm aware of Ashton and Michael sitting on the floor in front of me, both with a hand on my knee in comfort, and of Luke sitting on my right and putting an arm around me. But I'm not aware of Calum until I feel his hot breath on my neck.
He whispers into my ear, "You told him off pretty well, you know. I don't think I could've done that well of a job, and I thought that I was the scary one in this relationship. You're kind of a badass." I snort when he calls me a badass. I'm like the polar opposite of a badass. "Heyyyy I got a laugh," his dorky self is coming out.
I smile as I finally look up at all four boys. "Sorry I was too dumb to see what was actually going on." We all laugh knowing how oblivious I can be. I went shopping with them once and everyone but Ashton wandered off and I had no idea. I was just in the buggy holding all the food and texting Eliza as Ashton pushed me around grabbing things.
Michael decides to comment on it, "Well, at least you had the guts to tell him off. That was really cool. I probably would've been scared if I was on the other side of it." The rest of the boys nodded, seeming to agree with him.
Ashton is the first to get up as he heads to the kitchen, seeming to read my mind. "I'm grabbing ice cream! Who wants a bowl?!" He shouts from the kitchen where he is digging through our freezer.
Christmas was in a week and no one had yet to mention it. It was going to be my first Christmas back and I was honestly as excited as a child usually is for Christmas. Within a few minutes, we all have bowls of ice cream and are digging into them as we're seated in the living room watching whatever's on the tv. Michael is sitting in the chair, as Luke is leaning against Ashton similar-ish to the way I'm leaning against Calum, except I'm in between Calum's legs.
He's like my safe place, but so is Luke. Honestly I've grown so close to all of these boys, I can't imagine a world without them.
