Chapter 72
Several days had passed since the incident at the lake. It was a miserable day. A cold rain had moved in leaving everyone locked inside the lodge.
Most everyone was in the game room or pool area trying to make the best of the rainy day.
Tim sits alone in the living room with his lap top. He had gotten a 'job' offer and was doing some research on the person involved.
The sound of the door bell breaks his train of thought. 'Who would be out on a miserable day like today?' He thought as he quickly shuts off his computer. Since everyone else was scattered throughout the house, he gets up to go answer the door.
His heart jumps into his throat as he opens the door to find two police officers at the door.
Even though his heart had stopped, he kept a friendly expression on his face.
"Good morning, sir." One of the officers smiles. "We were just going door to door asking ..."
The cop stops in mid-sentence as he stares at Tim.
"Yes?" Tim asks with a slight smile.
"Oh, I know you." The officer says.
"You do?" Tim asks, his heart skipping a beat.
"You're Tim Foust, right?" The officer asks.
"Uh, yeah." Tim answers slowly.
"Tim Foust, the pool champion?" The officer smiles.
"Yeah." Tim chuckles nervously. "Well, was. I had to call it quits. Bad shoulder."
"Man, that's a shame." The officer says. "Well, Mr. Foust, we were just going door to door asking if anyone has seen these two men."
The cop hands Tim two pictures.
Tim takes the pictures and stares at the faces of the two men that he had murdered just days ago. But his expression does not change.
"No, I'm sorry. I don't think I've seen them. But then I spend most of my time here." Tim says, shaking his head and handing the pictures back to the officers.
Tim curses to himself as he hears footsteps coming into the foyer. He was hoping to get rid of the police before anyone else was questioned.
Tim glances around just in time to see Adam, Avi, Kirstie, Chris and Nate walk into the entrance hall.
"I didn't do it." Avi laughs, holding up his hands when he saw the two police officers.
The two officers laugh at his comment.
"Avi Kaplan?" The police officer smiles.
"It depends. If you're looking to arrest him, then I'm not him." Avi chuckles.
"I'm just a huge fan of yours and Mr. Foust's." The officer says.
Tim quickly gives Adam and Kirstie a worried look before turning back to the officers.
"Please, come in and get out of the rain." Tim smiles politely.
"Well, hello Nate." The officer says with a smile as they walk into the hallway. They both shake Nate's hand. "What on earth are you doing here at the lodge?"
"My boyfriend just happens to live here. What are you guys doing here? Is our music too loud?" Nate laughs.
"No, actually we are looking for these two men. Maybe you've seen them at the restaurant. They seem to be missing." The officer hands Nate the pictures.
Nate looks at the pictures with Avi and Kirstie looking over his shoulder.
Kirstie stares at the two men that had come close to raping her. Hatred filled her heart but she kept the facial expression calm.
Tim watches them carefully from his position behind the officers.
"Yeah, I think I have." Nate says. Tim's eyes widen. Was Nate fixing to rat him out? "But it's been probably about a week ago. They came into the cafe. They were real jerks."
Tim silently breathes a sigh of relief.
"I don't think I've seen them." Kirstie says, shaking her head.
"Me neither. But this one is kinda cute." Avi laughs pointing to one of the pictures.
Nate hands the pictures to Adam and Chris.
"No, I don't think I've ever seen these guys." Adam says.
"Me either." Chris says, shaking his head.
"Well, I kinda figure they just took off without telling anyone. They've been known to do that." The officer says as he takes the pictures from Adam.
"Sorry, we couldn't be more help." Tim smiles as he opens the door for the officers.
"No problem." The officer says as he makes his way to the door but quickly turns around. "Oh, one more thing I'd like to ask, if possible."
"Sure." Tim shrugs.
"I would love to get yours and Mr. Kaplan's autograph if I could." The cop says with an embarrassed smile. "And maybe I could get a picture with you guys?"
"Absolutely." Tim chuckles.
After signing autographs and posing for a few pictures with the two police officers, Tim and Avi wave at the officers as they head back to their patrol car.
"Yall come back now, ya hear." Avi calls out in his best hillbilly accent.
"Don't press our luck, Avi." Tim mumbles as he smiles and waves.
Tim closes the door, leaning against it, he breathes a breath of relief. Without saying a word, he looks at Chris and raises a brow.
"Don't worry, Boss man." Chris chuckles. "They'll never find a trace them."
"That's all I need to know." Tim says. "Thanks, Nate, for your story about seeing them. You scared me for a second."
"Oh, it wasn't a lie. I did see them at the diner." Nate smiles. "And they were assholes."
"It was hard looking at those pictures and not showing any kind of emotions." Kirstie said. "I got angry just looking at them."
"You did great though, Baby Doll." Avi says as he kisses her on the cheek.
"Yes, you did." Tim nods. "I was very proud of you. I know you're not used to this sort of thing."
"So, am I a bad mamajama now and get my own machine gun?" Kirstie smirks.
"Uh, No." Tim chuckles and shakes his head and walks back into the living room.
"But Timmmm." She whines as she follows in behind him. "I wanna be bad ass too."
"You are." Tim laughs. "You're the toughest little girl I know. And besides, you already have a gun."
"And you don't even know how to shoot it." Avi adds.
"But I want a bigger gun." Kirstie pouts. "One of those Magnets."
"Uh, that's Magnum, Kirst." Adam laughs.
"And it would knock you on that cute little ass of yours." Tim adds with a chuckle as he sits back down at his lap top, slipping on his glasses.
"Uh, excuse me, Timbo. But I'm the only one allowed to call her ass, cute." Avi says, crossing his arms.
