Chapter 18
Reijn
"Friend, you can open your eyes now," Asad shakes my shoulders. I peak my eyes out immediately scanning the area. The setting around me resembles a small living room with a tiny couch and a mini tv in front of it. It doesn't take a genius to solve this odd puzzle. Asad did the impossible, he made a portal, just as I can direct the weather. Maybe we're more similar than I thought. I could only imagine that we were brought together on purpose.
"Where are we?" I ask letting go of Asad's hand.
"This is my home, Reijn Laheurte," Asad smiles proving he knew who I was. Completely avoiding my famous career I compliment Asad's home.
"It is a very lovely home," I admire the at home feeling his place gives off. Asad starts walking toward a hallway and I follow close behind. It only takes us five steps before we're in front of a door.
"Aries," Asad calls out reaching for the doorknob and opening it slowly only to reveal an empty room.
"Who is Aries?" I ask as I examine what might be Aries's room, a telescope catches my attention. I step inside looking at his walls that are covered with posters of dancers. Before I have a chance to look at the telescope Asad sighs.
"Aries is my brother," Asad breathes out walking out of his room. He guides me to a set of glass doors that leads to the backyard. The house's silence is disturbed by the sound of Asad budging the glass doors open.
"The lock gets stuck sometimes." Asad huffs out finally getting the doors to open. Taking a step outside the wind immediately pushes against my hair fiercely. Not bothered by the wind, Asad leads me on a cement path to a tiny shack. Asad doesn't bother knocking he simply walks in. Inside the small shack, mirrors cover the walls creating a beautiful illusion that makes the shack larger inside. Soft music plays loudly and in the middle of the room is a young man spinning gracefully only one foot holding him up. He must be Aries.
"Aries," Asad calls out once again, Aries stops mid spin placing his foot down to look at us. He walks to a small stereo turning off the music. Asad walks towards him and I stumble behind. Even standing still Aries' poster is like a graceful ballet dancer.
"I think we're being followed," Asad blurts out, Aries gives a questionable look tilting his head to the side and Asad continues.
"Some men were following me, I think they know about our magic-"
"Magic?" I speak out confused, Aries stares at me with a blank expression, yet I feel judged by him.
"Yes, the purple glow," Asad explains moving his hand in a circular motion.
"You think it's magic? I thought it was a superpower of some sort." I admit.
"What's the difference?" Asad asks a question that I don't know.
"Why is Reijn Laheurte here?" Aries's soft voice distracts me for a moment. His voice isn't as deep as Asad it's much softer, like his features. Tanned skin with soft eyes and a small nose all topped with a quiff of curly hair. I'm lost in him for a second before Asad nudges me waiting for a response.
"I- saw the men following him and I knew they were bad because of a dream I had or a vision." The words coming out of my mouth seem like nonsense even to me.
"What dream?" Asad asks looking a bit lost.
"Let's go inside and talk about this," Asad suggests guiding us back into the house and into the living room. As we sat down I began my series of events that led me here.
"I had a dream that three little kids, a brother, and two sisters, were playing soccer. Suddenly the eldest girl was kidnapped by these men that were wearing black suits. The same men following Asad. In this dream, I tried saving her, but no matter what I did I couldn't help her," Pausing, I close my eyes trying to shake the memory of Naomi screaming. Remembering the way Arnél fell to the ground, how Jazmine stayed by his sighed and sobbed instead of running away.
"Then they came back for the last two and I couldn't save them either." Trying not to cry I message my eyes and the two brothers respectfully gave me a moment to collect myself.
"Today I saw them, the men, following Asad. I looked one in the eye then suddenly I could see Asad being cornered in an alley and I knew I had to help." Once I finish I look up to see Asad shining a comforting smile.
"What is your magic?" Aries questions still showing no emotion.
"My superpower?" Aries nods his head at my correction.
"Come on I'll show you," I get up and walk to the backyard this time Aries and Asad following behind. I hear them whisper in a language I don't know, but it was obvious they were talking about me.
