Chrysalism
❝ Tis Winter, I think
As I peer through the rain
At storm clouds a-brewing.
I lament in vain.
I hold up my coffee
And bundle within
My fortress of blankets
Along with my kin
The rain shouldn't be here,
It's time for the snow
For six pointed snowflakes,
But rain has to go
And then as I glance
Past crystallised glass
I notice a lady
Pirouetting past
Perhaps not a lady
But a girl, filled with glee
Who stomps in the puddles
Liberal, carefree
I wonder, does she not
Feel unpleasant cold
Of freezing wet raindrops
As humid wind blows
But the girl in the rain
With the dark braided hair
Is skipping on pavements
Away go her cares!
I'm filled with emotion
Surprise, maybe awe
At how such a girl
Could break feelings down raw
Then, sipping on coffee
As dark as the night
I slip through the window
And start to take flight
And turning my face up
To greet monsoon breeze
I relish cool raindrops
That slip by with ease
The girl sees me walking
And prances quite near
And holding a hand out
She says 'Don't you fear."
And me and the girl
With shoes dripping wet
Do dance through the puddles
Though we've never met
Then somehow, I notice
The musical sound
Of pitters and patters
And drops tightly wound.
And does fill my soul
With harmonious ring
And music starts flowing
From quite everything
But soon the sweet lulling
Of showers of grey
Does cease be persistent
And calm joins the fray
And with one final shower
Of rain round the bend
This gentle crescendo
Comes quite to an end
But not my sweet feelings!
Or the peace in my heart
In our pantomime
I know I've played my part
The winds are but freezing
And ice starts to form
But the song that's still playing
Does keep me quite warm
But when I turn to greet
My partner in dance
I notice there's no one
But me, not a chance
And as I stand alone in the
Drops and the dew
I wish for the people I love
Whom are few
And soon all my family
Spill out on the streets
And crowd in the suffix
Of torrents to meet
And nothing but joy
And glorious warmth
Remains of the winter
Of that solemn storm
But I know that I will
Never forget all
The rain brought in laden
Whilst covered in squall
A sense of belonging
And remembrance of peace,
A dance under lightning
With the girl on the street.❞
