Chapter 6 - Seeking Sky

I quickly checked my inventory. I had a Sharpness V diamond sword and five eyes of ender. There were also some other useless pieces of junk, such as rotten flesh and saplings, but Darren's inventory was relatively clear.

"Well, it's daytime now, so there's no point looking for any endermen," Landon said. "Wanna go mining?"

"Sure," I said. I didn't have a pick, so we went back to a small hut where I picked up a diamond pick enchanted with Fortune III and Unbreaking II. I had no idea where to go, so I just followed Landon to a nearby cave. Soon we were at diamond level, and we started strip mining.

"Dude, look what I found!" Landon cried, and I tracked his name tag through the torchlit tunnels. Eventually I found him, and saw what he had uncovered.

"An abandoned mineshaft," I breathed. "And we're at diamond level too."

For some reason, I had the worst luck with abandoned mineshafts. In my personal survival worlds, I had only ever found a couple, and they had all been quite high up. Darren seemed to be luckier with spawns than me. Then again, he had travelled a long way from his spawn in the episodes of his survival series that I had watched so far.

"Let's explore!" Landon yelled, and charged into the mineshaft. A few seconds later, he came running back, being chased by a huge crowd of cave spiders. "Never mind!" he squealed.

I saved him from the spiders with my diamond sword, and we both laughed. "Let's try again, but together this time," I grinned.

The trip through the mines was uneventful. We slaughtered a few spiders, found a couple of chests, but there wasn't really anything special in them. Then Landon said, "We should stop now. It's been nearly fifteen minutes."

"Okay. That wraps up this episode of Minecraft survival with Pixel," I said. "Don't forget to leave a like, and maybe even subscribe! See ya!"

I closed the recording software, and thought about how I had just recorded an entire episode of footage for Darren. Would his fans like me? I didn't have a clue. I would only know when I uploaded the episode.

"Do you wanna derp around on some servers for a bit?" Landon asked. I didn't really have anything better to do.

"Suppose so," I said, and returned to the multiplayer screen. "Whose server do you want to go on?"

"Have you heard about the Hive's new gamemode?" Landon asked. "It's called Hide and Seek."

"I love that game!" I cried. I quickly logged on to the Hive and was startled to see a barren landscape. Then I realised that since I didn't have that many subscribers, I didn't have a premium account. It had been a while since I had last seen the Hive without any people. That was when I was a small YouTuber, just starting out in the world of the internet. But now, I was reliving that, and I certainly didn't miss those days.

"Since you haven't got premium, tell me when you join a server and I'll join it as well," Landon said.

"Sure," I said. I found a server still in the lobby and right-clicked the sign. However, it didn't let me join. For a moment, I was confused, but then I remembered that I wasn't VIP. I would have to hurry if I wanted to join a server.

Ten minutes later, I was finally in. Pixel joined shortly after. I felt slightly jealous of him, but I guessed that that was what normal people thought of premium users. Soon the game started, loading up the Hotel map. I groaned when I saw what type of block I was.

"What are you?" I asked Landon. "I'm a freakin' block of coal."

Landon laughed. "Unlucky. I'm a beacon."

I had no idea where to hide. I decided to take shelter in a nearby bathroom, since the seekers tended not to look in there. Unfortunately, though, this seeker went straight to my hiding spot and killed me within the first minute, despite my valiant efforts to fight back.

"You died already?" Landon said. "Well, you'd better try and find me."

"I'm coming to get you," I grinned as soon as I was back on the map, armed with the Block Destroyer. I started hitting every beacon that I could find, hoping one of them would turn out to be Landon in disguise.

Although I found a couple of other fake blocks, none of them was the one I was looking for. When the game ended, the hiders won with three people left, Landon being one of them.

"I demand a rematch," I said, and Landon accepted instantly. After a while, we managed to join another server - this time on the Town Square map. I was an anvil, and Landon was a bookcase.

"They'll never find me here," I smiled, spotted a gap in a line of anvils. I blended in with the surroundings perfectly. Landon had found a good hiding spot as well. When the seeker came round, we were both ready.

Several times the seekers walked straight past me, causing me to hold my breath nervously, heart pounding. However, none of them realised that one anvil wasn't quite like the others, and we both succeeded in lasting until the end.

A couple of rounds later, Landon apologised, saying he had to go. The Skype call shut off abruptly, and I sat at the desk staring at the laptop screen, wondering what to do next.

I closed Minecraft and saw that Google Chrome was still open. YouTube beckoned to me, paused in the middle of the video I was watching. Fly's survival series. I had left off at the point where Fly and Pixel were both in the nether, struggling to fight off the angry ghasts and searching far and wide for a nether fortress. I unpaused the video, and kept on watching.

~o~O~o~

Episode forty-seven came to a close, and my mouse involuntarily searched the recommended videos for the next episode. When nothing came up, I quickly typed 'flyfreegaming Minecraft survival episode 48' in the search bar at the top. The results yielded no fruit.

Then I realised that I already had episode forty-eight. That was the video we had just recorded. My heart leapt into my mouth as I remembered once again that I wasn't Sky. How had the video turned out? I had to put up the next episode for Darren. I decided to start editing.

However, Darren didn't have Sony Vegas. Neither did he have any other editing tools that I knew of. Suddenly I saw that Windows Movie Maker was pinned to the taskbar. I right-clicked the logo and winced when the list of recent projects came up. This was the one.

I supposed it would do, though. All Darren had in his videos was an intro and the content. Now I needed to find the required files.

It didn't take me long to find the files. The intro was in the same folder as all Darren's previous recordings were, and obviously, so was the recording I had taken. I slapped them together in Windows Movie Maker and saved it.

Soon I was uploading the video to YouTube. Darren's internet was about as fast as a one-legged tortoise, so I did something else while waiting. I opened up Minecraft again and scrolled down the list of servers. I decided to log on to my - Sky's - server.

As soon as I was in, I noticed a huge group of people huddling around someone. I tried to fly over there, but I remembered that I was just another normal user, and I didn't have access to creative mode. Instead, I made do with sprint-jumping over to the source of the commotion.

I couldn't see anything. There were too many people crowding round. I checked the chat for hints, and what I saw made my heart stop.

'OMG SKYS ON' 'skydoesminecraft is at spawn!' 'message him its really him!!!'

If Sky was here, that would mean that my theory that we had switched bodies was most likely correct. After the initial shock, I felt anger. How dare this Darren kid take control of my body and flounce around my server pretending to be me!

But then my heart sank. He really was me, now. I was doomed to stay like this forever. Darren wouldn't want to switch back to his pathetic little life that he had dumped on me after he had experienced what it was like to have tons of fans. I'd just have to get used to my new life.

A group of people moved, and although another batch quickly filled their places, that split-second was enough to see the familiar skin of SkythekidRS. He stared right at me, and a moment later, he typed five words in the chat that, although simple, made me doubt my assumptions.

'Fly. We need to talk.'
