Chapter 14 - I'm SkyDoesMinecraft.
I sat in my room, staring at the wall decor. When we had gotten back, my mum had already woken up, and she had been so angry at me that I was grounded for the week. It wasn’t fair. As well as still being stuck in this body for probably the rest of my life now, I couldn’t even get a break from this prison.
As I looked around the room sadly, I felt a tingle run through my body, right down from my head to my fingertips. I noticed the pen on the desk, seeming to beckon me to take it. I couldn’t resist. Striding over to it, I gripped the pen in my hand. The Team Crafted mural was missing something, and I had to fix it.
Having found a space next to SSundee, I started to draw. At first, my strokes were small and hesitant, but as I gained confidence, I began to think larger, grander. I was absorbed in the art; nothing could distract me now. The lines flew across the wall. There was no need to guide the pen – the pen guided me. I let it take its own path. It felt… right somehow.
I didn’t want to stop, but I could somehow tell that the drawing was nearly finished. When I had drawn the final line, I put the pen down regretfully, and stepped back to inspect my work.
It took me a few moments to realise that I was the one who had actually drawn the masterpiece before me. I had expected my picture to look really out-of-place compared to the rest of the mural, but it fit right in.
I had drawn Fly’s Minecraft skin. I had gotten used to it over the past few days, what with playing Minecraft using his account and watching his videos and such. Fly’s skin was pretty normal, as skins go – just some dude wearing a creeper hoodie, a pair of jeans and a blue headset. I liked it, though. And I had portrayed it quite well in this style.
Suddenly the door flew open and my mum burst in. “Darren, I’ve been calling you for over half an hour now! Dinner’s ready!”
I nodded, and followed my mum downstairs, with one last look at the drawing I had done.

I was watching TV when I heard something come through the letterbox. Walking over to the front door, I found a letter addressed to my mum, lying on the doormat. I picked it up and handed it to my mum.
“Thank you,” she murmured, opening it. I studied her expression as she read the letter. For a long while she looked emotionless, but then her eyes widened. She put down the letter and smiled at me, a twinkle in her eye.
“How would you like to go to Bulgaria?” she beamed. My jaw dropped.
“Why?” I asked. My mum gave me the letter, and I read it silently.
To the parent or guardian,
This is an opportunity for only specially selected children attending the school. To aid the children in their learning, we have organised a trip to Bulgaria.
The trip will be a week long. We have booked many interesting attractions for the children to enjoy. They will be travelling via Bulgaria Air, a trusted company.
All expenses will be paid for by the school. It is completely free.
After that, there was a lot of other boring information. The date of the trip (exactly a week’s time), some of the attractions, and finally, a permission slip. I put the letter down with a smile.
“I’d love to go,” I said happily.
“I’ll sign it, then,” my mum said, finding a biro on the table. She signed the slip with a flourish.
“Now for the boring part,” she sighed. “Will you sort out the envelope for me?”
“Okay,” I said, and my mum fetched a blank envelope for me to write on.
As I wrote, my mind was in a blur. I’d been to England before, as part of gaming cons and such, but I had never been to Bulgaria. What was it like there? I knew that Bodil40 lived in Bulgaria, but that was pretty much the extent of my knowledge. What could you even do in Bulgaria? My thoughts were going faster than my brain could handle.
I smiled as I copied out the last letter of the zip code. Only a week to go.

“Darren! The car is here!” my mum shouted.
“Coming!” I yelled, checking my suitcase one last time. I thundered down the stairs, lugging the heavy suitcase behind me.
My mum stared at me. “Do you really expect to be going out like that?” I had been in a hurry to get ready this morning. It was true I had missed out on a couple of things on my routine, but I didn’t think it was that bad.
“I don’t have time for this,” I sighed. I kissed my mum goodbye and walked out of the door.
“Have you got everything?”
“For the thousandth time, yes, I do!”
I smiled. My mum had always been doubtful of me. Our holiday last year had been fraught with panicked trips back to fetch forgotten items, and even though they were always my mum’s lost possessions, she still put the blame on me.
A silver car was waiting in the driveway. The driver rolled down the window. I wondered who the driver could be. I hoped it was Mr Walshe – he was my favourite teacher.
However, the face behind the window didn’t belong to any of my teachers, yet it was familiar all the same. I almost dropped my bag in shock. “Deadlox,” I whispered.
Ty smiled. “You got that right.” Then I saw another figure in the passenger seat, and my suitcase fell to the ground.
“You’re SkyDoesMinecraft!”
The man himself just looked at me coolly. “No, you’re SkyDoesMinecraft.”
What? Had I heard him correctly? I gave him a look. Sky smiled cryptically. “Just get in the back seat already.”
“I thought this was supposed to be a school trip,” I said, backing away slowly.
“Would you rather we went home and you had some smelly teacher look after you?” Sky asked, raising an eyebrow. “I know what Mr Eason’s like.”
I grimaced. Mr Eason was somewhat infamous around the school for his stench. “You do have a point…”
“Then what are you waiting for? Let’s go to Bulgaria!”
“Oh, all right then.”
I opened the back door and slid into a strangely familiar car seat. After I had placed my suitcase on the seat next to me and strapped myself in, I dared to ask Sky a question as Ty started to drive.
“Um… you know what you said earlier about saying I was SkyDoesMinecraft…”
“Yeah, what of it?”
“Well… what did you mean by it?”
I could hear the smile in Sky’s voice as he answered. “Don’t you remember anything… Adam?”
Suddenly, I felt infuriated by his almost mocking tone. “I’m just a normal kid called Darren, and I’ve been so all my life. Why can’t you see that?”
Sky laughed. “So you don’t remember anything, hey? Nothing about animium… or stars?”
In the back of my mind I felt something stir. “Now that you mention it, I think I remember something…”
“You’re not Darren. You’re SkyDoesMinecraft. Adam. A famous YouTuber who, on one fateful night, switched bodies with the real Darren. That real Darren is me, also known as Fly.”
“I just realised… all our names rhyme,” Ty said. “Ty, Sky, Fly.”
“You’re right,” Sky laughed. And then in that seemingly random moment, my memory exploded.
I remembered everything. Everything about Adam’s personal life. Getting started on YouTube, meeting new friends, breaking up with Dawn… the memories physically hurt me, and I had to clutch my head tightly to try and stop the pain, eyes shut. The memories kept on flooding in. Dakota moving into my room, planning something for my four million subscriber special, lying in my bed – and wishing that I had fewer subscribers.
When I opened my eyes, there were spots obscuring my vision, but I could still see Sky’s face, looking at me with a smile.
“Remember?” he said gently, and I nodded. I smiled back as the spots faded.
“There’s still one thing I don’t understand, though. Why are we going to Bulgaria?”
“Bodil told me that they have a jar of animium over there.”
I gasped. “That’s great!”
“Indeed it is.”
Sky fell back into his seat. “Should I call you Darren or Sky?” I asked.
“Either way is fine with me.”
“Sky it is.” I didn’t want to confuse myself.
Sky’s phone started ringing abruptly. He pulled the phone of his pocket and answered it. Even seeing something as simple as my old phone brought back memories.
“Hello? Oh, hi Bodil… yeah, we’re just on our way there now. Yup, you were right. But we got him to remember eventually! Uh… do you want to talk to him? He’s right here…”
Sky passed the phone to me. “Bodil wants to talk to you,” he hissed. I lifted the phone up to my ear somewhat shakily.
“Hello,” came a voice through the phone. I remembered playing through Bodil’s maps, the first video we recorded together… I couldn’t help but smile.
“Hi,” I replied. “So how are you?”
“I’m good, what about you?”
“Good… apart from the fact I just realised I’m a famous YouTuber.”
Bodil laughed, making me laugh as well. Despite my confusion, I was feeling great.
“That’s good. Well, see you soon!”
“Bye,” I said, and waited a few moments before hanging up the phone. I passed it back to Sky.
“Thanks,” he murmured as he put it back in his pocket. He turned to Ty, who was humming something quietly as he drove.
“How far away is the airport?” Sky whined.
“It’s not that far now,” Ty said, and continued his humming.
“Is that a One Direction song!?” Sky exclaimed. I laughed when I saw Ty redden.
“It’s just… catchy,” he muttered.
“YOU DON’T KNOW YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL!” Sky screamed. Ty winced.
“How did you recognise the song anyway?” he asked.
“Because I’m totes a Directioner!” Sky grinned. I was trying to contain my laughter, but it wasn’t going very well.
“One Direction infection!” Ty said in a high pitched voice, and we all burst out laughing.
“Niall is so hot,” Adam giggled.
“No! Jack is so much hotter!”
“Is there even a member of 1D called Jack?”
“Do I look like I care?”
We couldn’t stop laughing, and before we knew it, we were pulling up at the airport.
It's finally done! Have a picture of Darren's skin on the side.
