Chapter 13 - To distant lands

This chapter has some swearing in it. If you watch Sky’s videos, I suppose you’re used to swearing, but I’ll warn you anyway…

“Adam! Adam, wake up! Hello? Ethan to Adam, come in Adam!”

Slowly I opened my eyes. The words were like blows to my head, which felt like someone had ripped it in half. My whole body ached. I raised one painful arm, and I felt a hand grip it, pulling me to my feet. I stood up unsteadily. My mouth was drier than a desert, and I felt like throwing up. The amount of pain was excruciating.

“Ethan… what happened?” I heard myself say.

“I think you had one drink too many last night,” Ethan sighed. “Look at this mess.”

I looked around. Ethan was right. There was junk everywhere. “…Seriously though, what the fuck happened?” I said after a while.

There was a knock at the door. “I’ll get it,” Ethan said, but I stopped him.

“No,” I said. Ethan stared at me strangely. “Fuck, I don’t even know anymore. Anyway, I’ll get it.”

I stumbled downstairs. A thousand bells were ringing in my head, bring. How had this happened? I wasn’t normally like that when I got drunk. I opened the door, and a fourteen-year-old boy stood there. He was trying to get my autograph or some shit. I felt too terrible to deal with him at that time. I didn’t even feel guilty when I slammed the door in his face. I could hardly understand what was going on.

“Dude, are you all right?” Ethan asked, when I came back into the room. “You don’t look too good.”

“I don’t feel too good either,” I muttered, and rushed to the bathroom. I threw up in the toilet bowl, and looked at my reflection. “What the fuck is going on.”

I had obviously drunk a lot of alcohol last night. I had a good, long drink from the tap, which helped clear my head a little. My headache seemed to have died down a little, along with the other symptoms, although there was still a dull throbbing that echoed through my entire body. When I came out of the bathroom, Ethan was already waiting for me in the corridor.

“Adam, you said something last night,” Ethan said.

“Well no shit Sherlock, I’ve got a fucking mouth,” I snapped back. Ethan seemed undeterred by my remark.

“You said something about you being a guy named… Darren?” Ethan said.

The name seemed familiar, but no matter how much I thought, I couldn’t figure out where I had heard it before. “Who the fuck is Darren?” I asked, and Ethan simply shrugged.

“Don’t ask me. You were drunk, so you probably didn’t know what you were saying. It’s no surprise that you haven’t heard of anyone called Darren.”

“I’m gonna see who’s online,” I said, retreating back into my room. I slid into the oh-so-familiar seat, and switched the computer on. When it had booted up, Skype appeared, and I scrolled down my contact list. Not many people were online. As I scrolled down the list, I noticed an unfamiliar contact. Her name was Olivia. I was about to delete her when I noticed something.

She had replied to a message I didn’t remember sending. I quickly scanned the wall of text, and gasped when I saw what it said. Darren was… me? It wasn’t possible. I looked at her reply.

Sorry, but I can’t help you… hope you can switch back soon!

And then it all came rushing back to me. My life as FlyFreeGaming, my friend Landon, having the tables turned when we switched… I remembered the ‘fanboy’ from earlier, and felt like hitting myself. That wasn’t just a fanboy! That was Darren! If I hadn’t gotten drunk, we could be back to normal. If I had been responsible, I’d be back home. If I had never made such a stupid wish in the first place… if… if…

There was no point chasing after Darren now. Suddenly my head felt clear as day. I had a job to do. I may have failed before, but there was no use dwelling on the past. This was one job that I couldn’t – wouldn’t – fail. I had remembered everything I had done before the unfortunate events last night. Olivia couldn’t have been the only one to have replied. Going to my ‘recent’ tab, I saw that there were plenty of other people.

ZexyZek was the first on the list. Although I couldn’t remember the pair playing together before, perhaps Sky was planning to record with Zek sometime soon. If we didn’t switch back soon, though, they might never record together… pushing the thought aside, I read his reply.

Weird. I can’t help, sorry!

I moved on to the next contact. AntVenom.

Dude, that’s crazy! Are you sure you haven’t gone mad? Even if you haven’t, I can’t help you. Good luck… freak.

I couldn’t help but laugh. Ant was another close friend of Sky’s, so that was pretty much what I expected from him. Scrolling down, I realised I had a lot more to go. I had no time to waste. Jordan – CaptainSparklez – was next.

Well that was unexpected. Can’t help.

My eyes literally flew over the next message. As I moved further and further down the messages, my hopes grew smaller and smaller. But when I was just about ready to give up, a certain message caught my eye.

It was Bodil40. I could almost hear his cheery Bulgarian voice reading out his message.

Lol xD I was wondering what animium meant. The local museum has a jar full of it!

I was grinning so widely that my face hurt. Only in Bulgaria could you find a jar of the world’s most dangerous substance. I noticed he was online, and grinned even more.I hesitated, about to type a message. To heck with it. I pressed the ‘call’ button.

A few moments later, Bodil picked up. “Hey Sky!” he laughed, cheerful as ever.

“Hey Bodil,” I said. Talking to such an amazing YouTuber still sent shivers down my spine. “So, about that message you sent me…”

“Oh yeah. Well, how are you going to get some?”

“I don’t actually know…”

“Why don’t you come to Bulgaria?”

“What!?”

Bulgaria was thousands of miles away. I had never really been to any foreign countries (except for a one-time visit to Canada). The idea of going all the way to Europe excited me and terrified me at the same time.

“So are you in?”

I gulped. “Well, I don’t see any other way…”

“Yay!” Bodil said a little too enthusiastically. “So… wanna record a video? I know you’re not actually Sky, but…”

“Videos!” I gasped. I – Sky – hadn’t uploaded a video in days. For some reason I went to twitter and searched for @SkyDoesMinecraf.

The results bowled me over. Although some tweets were normal, most of them were people freaking out about my current status. ‘What happened to @SkyDoesMinecraf?’ ‘Is @SkyDoesMinecraf dead? #FreakingOut’ ‘@Deadloxx do you know if @SkyDoesMinecraf is okay’

Then I noticed a tweet by Deadlox himself. ‘I’ve talked to @SkyDoesMinecraf. He’s not been feeling himself recently. Videos will resume soon.’

I laughed out loud. “What did I miss?” Bodil said eagerly.

“It’s nothing,” I smiled. “So, what do you want to record?”

“Maybe we can play Cops and Robbers,” Bodil suggested. “We’ll need some other people though.”

Olivia, I thought instantly. I smiled. She was online. I asked her if she wanted to play via a Skype message, and I could almost see her smile when she responded with a big ‘yes’. I added her to the Skype call. She was laughing.

“Um, Sky… can I add Simon and Baki?” Bodil asked tentatively.

“Go ahead!” I said. Once everyone was ready, we joined Bodil’s private server, and decided who was going to be the teacher, as well as introducing Olivia to the group. I already knew Simon and Baki, so soon, we started recording.

“Tree, two, one… hello everyone, today I’m here with Simon, Baki, Sky and Olivia, and we are playing some Cops and Robbers! I’ll be the warden,” Bodil said, and jumped on the pressure plate.

My cellmate was Olivia. “Warden! Warden!” I yelled. “Warden! There’s a strange person in my cell!”

“What is this?” Simon shouted. “Why am I stuck?”

Bodil laughed. “As you can see, Simon has never played this before, and neither has the snowman.”

“Hey! I’m a snow girl!” Olivia cried.

“Snow buddies!” Baki laughed.

“All right, everyone, calm down,” Bodil said, running outside our cells in his overpowered gear.

“Let me out!” Simon pleaded.

“No,” Bodil said, and shot him with an arrow – a one-hit kill.

“YOU SOKE!” Simon screamed, and we heard him hitting his keyboard with rage. We all laughed.

“Okay, Sky, you go and let him out,” Bodil giggled, opening the door.

“Thanks warden,” I said, making a beeline for the exit. An arrow whizzed past me, and I hid in the kitchen, looting the chests.

“Sky… what are you doing,” Bodil asked, but I could hear the laughter in his voice.

“I was hungry,” I said innocently, eating some bread to enhance my point.

“Okay. I’ll let you off this time. Now go get Simon.”

However, we hadn’t realised that Bodil had forgotten to close the door to my cell. Olivia had escaped, and freed Baki. The snowpeople had teamed up, and although Bodil managed to slay Baki, Olivia escaped. She re-entered through the back door, and let Baki free. While Bodil was busy chasing after me and Simon, the two of them were the first to reach the boat. After that, the game was ours, and before long, we were all beating up Bodil in the water around the ship, who was desperately trying to do the outro.

“Well, that was Cops and Robbers with Simon, Baki, Olivia, and Sky, who won’t stop punching me!” Bodil managed to splutter eventually. I grinned, ignoring his plea. “Check out their channels in the description below – Sky, stop!”

“Never!” I said.

“You’re going to kill me!” Bodil laughed. He managed to swim to the button, and teleported to the surface. We followed him, chasing him around the prison, laughing all the while. “Help!” Bodil screamed, which only made us laugh even more.

“And so the hunter becomes the hunted,” I said in a deep voice. Everyone burst out laughing.

“I’m going to die from laughter,” Olivia cried.

“I’m gonna die from not having any sprint left!” Bodil said, slowing down.

“Kids, that’s why should always eat your sandwiches!” I said, catching up to Bodil. There were tears in my eyes from laughing too much.

Bodil40 was slain by SkythekidRS

That was too much. I literally couldn’t breathe. The Skype call filled with laughter. After a minute or two, my stomach hurt too much to laugh any more. “Well, that was something,” I said, stifling a giggle.

“I’ll upload that last part separately,” Bodil said.

“I’ve got to go now. See ya!” Olivia said.

“Bye!” we chorused, and she left the Skype call.

“Well, I guess I should go too, now that my life partner’s gone,” Baki said with a fake sigh. We laughed again as he left the call. It wasn’t long before Simon left, and I was talking with just Bodil.

“So… are you two coming or not?”

“Both of us!?” I exclaimed.

“Yeah. You both need to get some animium, right? And it would be much easier if you could both just swap in Bulgaria. After all, it’s in the museum.”

“You’re right,” I muttered. “But Adam’s fourteen years old now… he’d never get permission, and I would know.”

“What if you say it’s a school trip?”

“It’s summer vacation.”

“…What if you say it’s a summer trip?”

“That could work, actually,” I mused. “All I have to do is post a letter to my mum… yeah, she believes anything.”

“Well, I’ll leave you in peace,” Bodil said. “Bye dude.”

“See ya,” I said. Silence filled my headphones. I simply sat there for a few moments – then smiled. I had a letter to write.
