CHAPTER 48: HEY, STRANGER

~Barcelona, Spain~

"Your father and I are both lawyers. And because of the nature of cases we take, our lives are constantly in danger" Maria explained to her daughter, who's having a hard time digesting all the news.

They don't blame her though. It is a lot to take in.

"Is that why you left?" Jannah asked, still fiddling with her fingers. Doing that is the only thing that kept her sane.

Maria and her husband nodded. "Yes" the woman replied, "Your father was hospitalized because his life was threatened. That was the last case we took, until recently"

"Recently?" Jannah rose a brow.

Maria nodded, "I took upon the case of my brother which his wife, Saheeb's mother, filed. I promise to help her"

Jannah gulped thickly. Of everything she's figuring out that irks her the most. So all this while she's related to Saheeb? Saheeb Mr S? The same man that caused her pain and she never knew?

Her life sure is messed up.

She's still having a hard to wrap her head around the newfound facts. So all this while she had been related to the people close to her yet she never knew.

She's related to both Suhad and Daihaah.

Life can sure be surprising.

And Mamita...the one woman she always believes hates her turns out to be her aunt?

One thing that wasn't that surprising to her though she was shocked when she found out is the fact that Kamal is her real brother. She always believed that he's someone extremely close to her, especially from how he treats her. He had always been the siblings he had ever hoped for.

Jannah blew out a loud breath. She swallowed thickly as her shoulders sunken. "How did I end up in Baba and Mama's care?"

"He is a good friend of mine, and the only person your mother and I could trust with you two" This time around, it was her father that spoke. "Your mother thought he'd raise you both together, but his wife couldn't handle two kids at the same time since she has her own child too. So, she gave him over to her sister"

Jannah nodded slowly. She knew he's far from being done explaining. So, she kept shut and allowed him to continue.

"We left our wealth in his care, at least most of it so he could take care of you two and his family"

Now that he said that, Jannah understood why he left all the wealth in her and Kamal's name, since it wasn't his to begin with. How comes he never thought of that? Probably because she had been so caught up in their loss that she didn't have time to think about it.

Then her marriage with Suhad happened.

Suhad...Just the thought of him made her heart ache. She missed him terribly. She didn't want to leave but she had to. She had to find out the truth because she didn't want to continue living a lie. She just hoped that Kamal is there with her. She wanted her whole, real family there with her.

But he's not. And she'd be lying if she says she's not bothered by the lack of information about him. Is he okay? Is he hurt? Is he...dead?

Subhan Allah. She shook her head. She didn't want to think of that possibility.

Jannah blinked. After everything she had found out, there's one thing that had been bothering her. So, she parted her lips and asked. "Did you ever plan to come back to us?" She spoke, staring at both her birth parents.

Maria was quick to nod. "Of course. We did plan on coming back when your father regained his health. However, my brother came back and since he was targeting both you and your brother, we had to deal with him first"

Jannah resisted the urge to scoff at the thought of Jabeer. All this is his fault. He's the reason why everyone's lives are messed up simply for his selfish wants. "I hope he won't escape this time around"

"Me too" Maria nodded in agreement. Yes, he's her brother and no one would want their sibling to end up in prison. However, after everything he had done, she believes that prison is too easy for him. Especially not after he involved her children in this. She would do whatever it takes to make sure he faces justice.

Maria's husband added a bit of pressure on her hand, silently letting her know that he would help her every step of the way. He wanted everything to end too so he can see his sister, Saeemah, again. He is well aware that she's furious at him for leaving her alone all these years. So, he wanted to make it up to her.

Since their parent's death, it had always been just the two of them. But, things had changed in the past two decades. He was forced to make a decision for the betterment of his family.

He couldn't think of how she'd react if she sees him again. Despite what everyone would say, he knows his sister. She is a good person. She makes bad decisions just like everyone else, but her intentions had always been pure.

Maria parted her lips to say something when her phone rang. So, she excused herself to answer the call leaving Jannah alone with her father. The doorbell rang just as Maria disappeared somewhere to answer the call.

"I'll get it" Jannah offered her father a small smile and sat up. Blowing out a low breath, she walked towards the door and pulled it open, not bothering to peep and see who the person is.

They weren't expecting any guests. None that she knows of anyways. So, who could it be? She wondered.

The minute she swung the door open, and her gaze fell on the person that stood in front of her, her breath hitched as her hands dropped by her side; eyes widened as saucers and mouth hung ajar.

"Hey, stranger" He smiled.

"Kamal..."

ABUJA, NIGERIA.

"Do you want to see him?"

Sarah shook her head furiously. She didn't want to face him just yet. She couldn't.

Saheeb nodded in understanding. He and their mother flew back to Nigeria after Kamal and the others caught their father. It wasn't an easy job, as the old man almost escaped their clutches.

Keyword; almost.

It was a good thing that Kamal was able to stop him, even if he did get badly injured in the process. They didn't think he'd make it out alive, or survive when they saw how badly injured he was. Fortunately, he did.

When he woke up, he was asked how he was able to survive. He thanked Allah and claimed that he fears his woman that's why he couldn't dare die out on her like that. Apparently, she'd follow him to his grave and kill him again if he dares to do that. Kamal even shuddered after that, and made a comment about how women can be scary when they want to. They all laughed and asked who is she, but he didn't say.

Safe to say, everyone can't wait to meet his girlfriend, even Fatimah who was hell-bent on proving to Aahil that she's over Kamal couldn't wait to see her.

He left the day before to visit his family, his real family.

"Do you have to confess?" Saheeb asked, staring at his twin sister with brows furrowed deeply. He would testify against their father too, along with their mother. Withal, he didn't want her to testify because then she'd have to go to prison for the crimes she committed.

Sarah stared at him, then sighed. She nodded, offering him a small smile. "I have to face the consequence of my actions in order to move on. Besides, I am not sure in Lamido will still confess against him. Dad had me visit him a couple of weeks ago to convince him to not testify again. Right now, I don't know if he would or not so I need to do it"

Saheeb blew out a shaky breath, then looked down. He knew he sounded selfish, but he really didn't want his twin sister to end up in prison. Albeit, he knows that the things she had done are wrong but she only followed their father's orders. He didn't want to lose his sister, she is all he has, aside from their mother.

Ever since they were children, it had always been the two of them.

"Hey..." Sarah placed her hand on his shoulder, it made him look at her, her smile widened slightly. "It'll be okay. I have to do this in order to move on, okay?"

He nodded. He didn't agree with her decision but he respects it. It feels nice to finally do what they want in their life. Once their father is sentenced, they'd be free of him. That is something he had always yearned for.

"I want you to promise me something, Saheeb"

"Promise you what?"

"Promise me that you'll take care of mom if I end up in prison. Also, do apologize to Jannah and everyone else you've wronged. Only then can you move on happily with your life. Okay?"

He nodded, "I promise"

Two weeks had passed since Jabeer was caught. Aside from Qamrah, Daihaah's mother in law, and Layla, everyone else refused to pay him a visit. That includes Daihaah whom her husband had tried to convince but to no avail, she wasn't giving in. She couldn't find it in her to forgive him enough to even face him. Maybe someday she would. For now, though, she didn't want to see him.

Suhad had gotten much better too. He was getting discharged since he was back to normal again. As long as he stays away from stress and takes his medications, he'll be alright, and he knows that already.

Mamita was the one who was left to take him home as she had requested, and Suhad was thankful for that. He wouldn't pick any other company aside from his mother's—especially not after everything that they had gone through.

The fact that Jabeer could no longer disturb them again is the peace that everyone had been yearning for. So, everyone's glad that it's finally over.

When they returned home, Fatimah and the others had thrown a welcome back home party for him, which Daihaah and Prince helped throw along with Jameelah, Didi and the others.

Suhad thanked them all for the efforts, and the spent quality time with them all. Although he didn't say it, they all could tell that he yearned for his wife's presence. Yet, no one said anything about it and neither did he.

Since Kamal is in Spain with her and their family, he had called and informed them that they are all doing well, and that was all Suhad needed to her. Nevertheless, that to say doesn't mean that he had given up on getting her. No, he just wanted to give her time to adjust to everything.

They both needed time to adjust to everything they had found out, and come in terms with it. They need to accept the changes and become better versions of themselves.

And that was why Suhad agreed to wait. He'd wait for the right time. The time when they are both better versions of themselves.

Then, they'd be together.

And by then, he'd make sure that no one can make them break apart. He'll be with his Jay again.

And they would be happy.

One day.
