CHAPTER 37: HURT

Jannah gulped. She knew he was mad at her, but the way he spatted those words out confirmed it for her. "Look, I'm sorry..."

"Sorry?" He cut her off, disbelief masking his tone, "Your 'sorry' is not going to bring back our child that you killed!"

"I didn't kill it" She argued, tears welling up her eyes.

"You did" He argued, ignoring the waterworks show she's putting on. He might love her like mad but what she did was unacceptable.

"It wasn't even a human yet. Two weeks old Suhad, it was two weeks old"

He chuckled bitterly, shaking his head in the process, "Is that supposed to make it better Jay?"

She usually loved the way he called her name, but not at the moment. At that moment, she preferred he called her real name because the way he called her so harshly, at the instant she knew she was in for a long run. "I wasn't ready for a child Suhad, is that what you want me to say?" She asked, her voice raising slightly as the tears she held back streamed down her cheeks.

He took a step closer to her, leaning down to her height, he whispered, "And you think I don't know that?"

That took her aback, "Huh?"

"I'm not stupid Jannah, I saw your pills and I don't care about them" He watched as her eyes widened, it made him scoff, "What upsets me is that you'll stoop so low to get an abortion simply because they didn't work. Couldn't you have told me instead? Do you know how I felt when I came and found you unconscious lying in a pool of blood? Your blood?!" His voice rose with each word that escaped his mouth, and he didn't feel an ounce of guilt as he watched her cry.

He was scared to the core when he saw her. He almost lost his mind thinking of what happened to her.

Then what? The doctor told him it was just the abortion pills she took that made her lost that much blood.

"I'm sorry" She whispered. She didn't know what else to say or do at the moment.

He shook his head, a bitter smile adorning his lips, "No you're not" he whispered back. "You're selfish. All you care about is yourself. Not once have you ever considered my feelings"

She shook her head, more tears streaming down her face, "You know that's not true" She reached out to hold his hand, this made him take a step away from her earning a whimper from the sobbing Jannah.

"Oh really? Then tell me one time you considered my feelings? Just once! Was it five years ago when you left me because of some petty jealousy of yours? You misunderstood the situation, would it have killed you to simply ask?"

She shook her head, not able to stop her tears as she ran her hand furiously through her hair, "It's more than that Suhad, I swear!"

"Or maybe it's when you left me after Aamir and Daihaah's wedding?" He asked, raising a brow as he watched her cry. On other times he would've embraced her and pacify her but not then.

She crossed the line. He had no more patience in him. This wasn't some book where the guy would forgive everything she does in a blink of an eye. No, this is their story and it is one hell of a rocky path. There's nothing rainbow and cotton candy in it.

Jannah shook her head again. She didn't have an excuse for that. She was angry at him for what happened five years ago then, which she misinterpreted by the way.

"Or was it when you decided to leave me at the hospital? Was it then?"

"I did that for you. For your happiness!" She tried to defend herself though she knew that was a flimsy excuse. Her breathing was eventually becoming shallow by the second, nervousness was slowly chocking her up.

He shook his head, chuckling again, "Oh come on Jannah! We both know that's a lie"

He was right. It was a lie. And she knows it.

"Listen, you're going through a rough time, I know that. However, I will not stand and watch you ruin us just like that. Unless you get yourself together, reading to open up, don't even think of talking to me" He said through gritted teeth making her shake her head.

"I know the way thank you!" A voice from outside made them stop their argument. A knock sounded on the door, "Y'all I'm about to walk in so keep it PG 23 will ya?" Was the only heads-up they were given before the door burst open, and in walked a pregnant Daihaah with her pillow tucked under her armpit and her duvet in the other hand.

She stopped in her tracks when she noticed the atmosphere in the room. Suhad looked livid while Jannah was crying hysterically, "Well shit turned real fast" She muttered.

Suhad sighed, massaging his temples with his fingers, "What are you doing here Daihaah?" He asked as he glanced at his wrist watch, "At eight thirty pm?"

She rolled her eyes, "Well your dumbass friend is too busy chatting with another woman so I thought of giving him space. He looks like he need it by the smile on his face" She offered Suhad a fake wide smile to mask away her jealousy, but it was still very apparent.

Suhad closed his eyes to calm down his anger, "Daihaah I honestly don't have time to deal with your jealousy and paranoia"

"Then stay at my house for the night. By the looks of it, you'll need it" She glanced at her best friend who has her back to them as she sobbed.

Suhad didn't even think twice before he walked out of the room, taking her offer leaving the two alone. He made his way over to Prince's house while Daihaah stayed and pacify her best friend.

Suhad offered a curt nod to the maid who opened the front door for him before he strolled into the house, laptop tucked in his hand while his phone and other files are in his other hand. He heard the sound of chuckling, that made him slow down slightly as his brows quirk up.

He then walked further in, making his way to the living room where he found Prince sitting on one of the couches. And true to Daihaah's words, he had a grin on his face as he typed away. This made Suhad more confused.

He hissed lightly and walked towards him, slapping his legs off the chair, he settled in the position-everything he came with resting on the table in front of him. "Who are you chatting with, idiot?" He asked not sparing his friend a glance as he held a file in his hand, going through the digits on it.

"A beautiful lady" Prince replied chuckling, as he continued typing not bothering to ask Suhad why he was there. He saw his wife storm out, and he didn't have the energy in him to get her back so he let her go.

"Which one?" Suhad asked in a bored tone, flipping the papers. He knew his friend well enough to know who he's talking about.

"The prettiest" Prince replied, still, his eyes aren't off his phone.

Suhad hummed, a smile dancing on his lips, "How is Afnan?" He glanced at Aamir just in time he looked up, this made them both chuckle.

"She's fine" Prince answered shaking his head.

"You know you'll give Daihaah a heart attack soon right? What did you tell her?"

"The exact same thing I told you. I'm chatting with the prettiest girl I know" He shrugged, "My baby sister is the prettiest girl I know"

Suhad grinned slightly. Being around Prince always lifts his mood even if he didn't want to, "And your wife?"

"Nah dude, she's the most beautiful"

"You should've told her that instead"

"I'm good this way. She'll be back soon anyways. I wouldn't mind a couple hours of peace"

Suhad didn't say anything. He only smiled as he continued his work.

"Hey, how's everything with Jannah?"

"Same as ever"

"Ahh" Prince muttered in understanding as he kept his phone aside, "In that case, we'll need soju"

Suhad chuckled whilst shaking his head, "No man. That will only remind me of her" he said knowing that Prince's definition of soju is and will always be either Pepsi or some other soft drink. Pepsi most preferably.

"That's good then. You should always have her in your heart"

Suhad stilled, chuckling bitterly, he shook his head. He then turned to Prince, "This time is not like before Aamir" He said his eyes resting on his friend who sighed.

"I've never seen you this mad at her" Prince commented as he sat up straight.

"She never gave me a reason to" Suhad simply shrugged.

Prince Aamir scoffed slightly knowing what Suhad said was a lie. The girl has given him so many reasons to get angry at her, Suhad is just a bit too patient. And now, he crossed the limit. "What are you doing to do now?"

Suhad shrugged again as he leaned back on the couch, dropping the papers beside him, "I have a slight back to Gombe tomorrow after the meeting"

"You going with her?"

"After what she did? I don't think so" He shook his head, massaging his eyelids lightly with his fingers, "Mamita might just try to kill her and I'm not sure if I can get between them anymore"

"She knows huh?"

"Who in my household doesn't?" Suhad groaned. That's what angers him most. The fact that something happened between he and his wife yet everyone in his family knows what occurred.

It was annoying to say the least.

He sighed again, covering his face with his hand, "We both need space. I know I need as much as I can get"

Prince nodded in understanding, "Take your time, but do fix your problems soon. The longer you stay apart, the bigger it becomes"

Suhad nodded.

Jannah glanced at Daihaah's sprawled figure on the bed. The two moved to another empty room since those two rooms only bring back bad memories to Jannah. Daihaah promised her a movie marathon to get her mind off what happened but here they are, thirty minutes later, the girl is knocked out.

Jannah sighed, pulling the duvet over Daihaah's body before she made her way over to the balcony, sitting on one of the few Adirondack chairs there. She leaned back, her gaze on the sky as she let the tears fall. She couldn't fall asleep no matter how much she tried. She brought her phone out and checked the numerous texts she left for her husband, who was still ignoring her.

She tossed the phone away, not caring where it went as she laid there motionless. The only thing that signifies she's still alive is her even breathing and the tears that stream down her face.

"I'm so sorry Suhad" She whispered, biting her lower lip hard as the tears fall. She didn't want to anger him; it was the last thing on her mind but she didn't know what got into her. She just did it without thinking of him.

She was being selfish.

But she wasn't thinking straight. She hardly does.

She didn't know what to feet at the moment. Regret was there, but so were other emotions she didn't know what they are.

But this is who she is. She can't change it.

As if a button somewhere in her head was pressed, she stood up and made her way over to their room. Rushing to their walk in closet, she went to her side and sat on the floor, pulling out a box underneath her pile of clothes. She then opened the box, pushing away the piles of paper and whatnot that were there, looking for something in particular.

After a while, she groaned out of frustration and kicked the box when she didn't find it. This sent the papers scattered on the floor making her mumbled incoherent words under her breath. However, she stopped after a while when her gaze fell on what she was looking for.

She picked it up, and opened it up and immediately, determination filled her up.

She had something very important to do.

"Leah...what are you doing?" Sam's voice came sounding worried.

"Being a freak of course" Heather replied and I could feel her glaring at me, "Nothing new"

I didn't pay attention to her though, nor did I to Sam.

I crouched in front of the lake and cautiously put my hand into the water. I didn't know why; I knew I saw something in there. My hands touched something and I swear I almost screamed. Somehow, I managed to pull it with much effort as I heard the sound of footsteps coming towards me.

As the thing I pulled came into a view, I shouted as loud as I've ever done in my entire life. I didn't know when I fell while backing away. Samantha's screams followed, then Heather's.

I stared at my now wet hands because of the water as I looked at what I pulled.

A body. I just pulled out a dead boy's body.
