CHAPTER 32: MAMA BEAR
Birthday gift number 2!
Monday came meaning both Jannah and Suhad have to go to work.
Jannah dressed up in a printed pearl white wrap top tucked in a straight pale pink pants. She then picked out a matching long coat and shrugged it on. With her head cap securely wrapped on her head, she out on her dupatta like hijab over her head leaving the end loose. Today she went down a notch on the makeup. She did apply makeup, but minimal unlike before. Unlike her usual matte maroon lipstick, a nude one replaced it. As she slipped into her heels, she put her phone in her bag holding the car keys in her hand.
She adores that key so much that she had been sleeping with it beside her for the past two days. At first, she slept with it in her hand but she always loses it eventually at a point, so she kept it beside her securely beside her pillow.
Suhad tried to get it away from her but he couldn't. Every time he does, she threatens to take his car instead so he gave up.
Guy doesn't play with his car. And neither does she.
The amusing part is that they both have the same car now. The only difference is that Suhad's car is raven black while hers is grey.
To say she was happy when he gave her the car will be an understatement. It's safe to say that she showed him just how much she appreciated it. After taking the car for an hour test drive that is. Suhad had never been so scared of losing his life like that day. She drove recklessly. He knew that she only did that to joke around but still, he couldn't do anything now. The damage is done; the car is hers now.
Making her way downstairs, she already gave the maids instructions on what to cook while she's gone so she made her way to her most beloved treasure, her new Porsche. Suhad left for work half an hour ago after they had breakfast together.
Jannah made her way out and to the parking lot where her SUV, the Porsche and Suhad's cars are, including his Panamera. Unlike her, he doesn't not plan on taking it to work every day. Maybe because owning something like that isn't new to him.
Getting in the driver's seat, she revved the car to life whilst keeping her bag on the passenger's seat. With one hand on the steering wheel, and a coffee in the other hand, she drove to work. Unlike the usual, she finished the coffee before she reached work.
As she pulled in the parking lot of ANNA's, she felt a sudden surge of confidence she thought she lost after the last event that happened in relation to the place. But with Mr. S gone now, she's sure everything will be as okay as it can be. So, with that thought in mind, she opened the door and stepped out with her bag firmly held in her hands.
She didn't make the same mistake she made on her first day in this place though. This time, she made sure she knows where she's going so that she does not fall again. She knows that people are already talking about her, so she doesn't want to give them any reason more to talk.
With her head held up high, she sauntered into the building. A couple of people who knew what happened turn to look at her, some whisperings stuff amongst themselves but she didn't let their words affect her. She only smiled at the man by the door who has always been nice to her. She entered the elevator along with some workers there. She didn't spare any of them a glance throughout the seconds that took them to the floor they worked.
"Oh My God" Fatimah said the minute she saw Jannah walk in and sashayed her way to her friend, ignoring the others. They can let their eyeballs fall of out of staring and she won't give a damn. She engulfed her friend and sister in law the minute they are within arms-length.
"Hey" Jannah chuckled when Fatimah tightened her hold around her friend. "I miss you too" she didn't need Fatima to voice the words out, she knows already.
Fatimah chuckled before she pulled back, giving her sister in law a once over, "You really are Bhai's wife. Masha Allah. Do you know how curious I was when someone came in informing others that you just arrived in a Panamera?" She rolled her eyes, Jannah did the same.
Some people and their gossips. So what if she drives an expensive car? How many people drive cars more expensive than that?
"Some people bahhh" Jannah shook her head as she strolled to her cubicle and place her bag on her table. Everything's the way she left it. When she sat on the chair, she noticed that the locker she keeps her designs is unlocked. "That's weird" she muttered.
"What's weird?" Fatimah asked sanding a couple of steps away from her friend.
"I could swear I locked this" She opened the drawer.
"Yeah mine too. Think they changed the lock or something" Fatimah waved it off--making Jannah do the same.
"No it's the same lock" Jannah muttered to herself. She shook her head and closed the drawer seeing as her sketchpad is still there, nothing seemed to be touched, "I'm probably just being paranoid" she crossed her legs and leaned back on her chair, "Man it feels so good to be back"
"It's good to have you back Mrs. Bhai. I can see he finally found someone to spend all his money on since he hardly uses it" Fatimah shook her head, a smile lingering on her lips.
"What do you mean?" Jannah asked lazily as she closed her eyes relishing the moment. It feels so good to finally be out and be in a place she thinks is her safe heaven.
"Well Bhai as you know by now, is mommy's boy. Mamita buys almost everything for him, especially clothes. He hardly buys them; she buys it all for him. As for the cars, some Dad bought it for him, while some she bought it" Fatima shrugged like it's no big deal.
Jannah opened her eyes when she heard that, "He asks them to do that?"
"No. Of course not" Fatimah quickly shook her head, "Mamita just do it. She does the same thing to all of us, except it's not as much as his. You know, first child and all" She doesn't feel angry that their mother obviously likes Suhad, maybe more than them. But she knows her mother. Though the woman does stuff that are questionable, she still loves her and knows the side of her that no one knows.
Jannah nodded as she sat up straight, "Wow. I never realized how rich your mother is" She quickly looked at Fatimah when she realized that what she said might've sounded rude, "I don't mean that in a rude way"
"Extremely" Fatimah said cutting her off.
"Huh?" She sounded extremely rude or what?
"Mamita. She's extremely rich" Fatimah said offering Jannah a smile that calmed her down, "Her father was rich before he passed away, so when he did, all his assets were shared between her and her brother considering they're his only children. The old man was so rich that up till date, no one knows the exact amount of wealth he had" Fatimah said, her head bobbing up and sound slightly as she thought of her deceased grandfather and his wealth. Suhad didn't get everything out of the blink of an eye. Mamita has spent her wealth more on him than she has on herself. "When her brother passed away, more than half of his wealth disappeared. No one knew where it went"
"And her mother? Your grandmother. What of her?"
"Passed away while giving birth to Mamita. Their father never married again. He raised them himself, or more like Mamita's brother raised her since the father grew old and needed someone to take care of him too"
She really does love her son. In her own twisted sick way that is. But a mother is still a mother.
"Wow" Jannah said, her mouth hanging open slightly.
"Wow is right" Fatimah nodded and silence took over the place. After a couple of seconds of silence, she spoke again, "You know she wasn't always like this"
Jannah didn't need to ask. She understood what Fatimah meant. "I know. I'm probably the only person she hates" Jannah chuckled lowly trying to lighten up the mood though internally, she's feeling the exact opposite.
"Jannah I know this might sound unbelievable, but Mamita doesn't hate you" Fatimah said, her voice coming out without any trace of lark as the smile on her face disappeared.
Jannah clicked her tongue, "You and I have a very different definition of hate"
Fatimah looked down for a second contemplating on whether to tell Jannah or not before she looked back up finally making her decision, "You remind her of someone"
"What?"
"Even Bhai doesn't know this but Mamita, you remind her of someone that was close to her. When she lost the person, she was extremely hurt. She's sacred Bhai will feel the same way if he loses you. It doesn't take a genius to see how much he loves you"
Jannah knew that doesn't explain Mamita's attitude, but she didn't say anything.
"Be honest Jannah, will you let your son be with someone who when the person leaves him, will leave him hurt?"
"You think I'll leave your brother?"
"No. Of course. It's just hypothetically. Try to understand her"
Jannah sighed, she didn't want to argue with Fatimah who's trying to defend her mother. She can't really blame her. She knows that she will definitely defend Mama no matter what. "Can we not talk about this anymore please?"
Fatimah stared at Jannah for a while before she nodded, "Yeah. We got to get back to work anyways. By the way, we have a meeting later"
Jannah raised a brow, "With who?"
"Don't know. Just heard some people saying it. Some company saw our last designs for the showcase and wants to sign a deal with us"
"Do we have to attend? We're interns anyway"
"Yeah but we're part of the ones who designed the outfits showcased there. We have to be there" Fatimah said fixing her turban cap in the process as it has started to slip off her head.
"Okay then"

Jannah walked back into the building having just came back from her lunch break. She ate at a café opposite the building today instead of the cafeteria, for some reason she doesn't want to eat their food.
Or maybe it's because she wanted to drive her car again.
She held her phone firmly in her hand and scrolled through her messages, looking for one from her husband. Surprisingly, there wasn't any. "Weird" she muttered to herself but didn't press further.
"Man I will definitely come for a test drive in that car of yours"
Jannah raised her head and all but ran to the person, engulfing her in a tight hug.
"Girl careful" Daihaah chuckled, patting her friend's back slightly.
Jannah pulled back, a grin masking her features, "What are you doing here?"
"We have a meeting here with you guys" Daihaah said, her lips tilting up into a grin too.
"Wait. You're the ones we're having a meeting with?" Daihaah nodded, "But you're a construction company. We're a fashion one"
"We expanding the department Adda Anee worked with. ANNA's the best option since its rating blew up the chart with the latest show you guys put on. Which based on our statistics, will definitely bring money if we decide to cooperate with you. For now, we'll start with a simple project as a test drive, then---"
"Enough please. No need to go all PRO on me" Jannah chuckled not wanting Daihaah to start with her statistics and all. That's not her area of expertise. If it was, she would've studied that. This made Daihaah cackle, "What are you doing out here? Shouldn't you be inside?"
"I arrived before the others. I'm waiting for Rahma; I'm having someone take her to stay with Mami for now"
"Can't she just go straight to her place?"
"No. I have her medicine with me. I have to give them"
"She's sick?"
"Yes"
"Allah sarki. Allah bata lafiya"
"Ameen"
"What's this ugly thing doing here?!" A loud screechy voice came from behind them making them whip their heads to the direction.
The woman Jannah recognized as a coworker of hers stood in front of a small girl. By the looks of it, the girl is Rahma.
"Can you help me find my mommy?" The girl asked, her voice sounding fragile as she reached her hand out to touch the woman's leg where her height could reach.
The woman slapped the hand away, "Keep your filthy hands away from me" She half yelled making the three-year-old girl's eyes well up with tears. "Can someone get this thing away from me? I can't stand her. Urgh!"
Daihaah and Jannah narrowed their eyes at her with mouths slightly hung ajar.
Daihaah looked down for a second and laughed lightly. She reached her hand out and gave Jannah her purse. She then proceeded to remove her wrist watch, then her ear rings and ring came off, all giving it to Jannah.
"Mama bear mood activated?" Jannah asked, her tone held amusement knowing what's coming up next.
"Mama bear mode activated" Daihaah repeated as she fixes the sleeves of her abayah.
"What are you going to do?"
"Uban wata zan ci"
