CHAPTER 24: TIED

~ABUJA, NIGERIA~

Jannah stared at the outside world as she stood at the balcony. Her gaze settled on the busy streets of Abuja while her lips are set into a tight line. Though she is staring at that her mind is nowhere near there.

She's dreamt of this day countless times before. She dreamt of the gown she'd put on—which brand it will be from, the makeup artist she'd hire, how many events she'd have, and how it will be the happiest day of her life.

Funny how life turns out to be. The saying is true, "You plan, I plan but Allah is the best of planners"

Never had she imagined that she'd get married two days after losing both her parents. Never had she imagined herself dressed up in a casual grey hoodie and a black jeans while she is being tied to a man she lost hope of ever having.

Sounds ideal right?

The wedding fatiha is nothing fancy or extravagant. It's more like a small gathering that consists of 20 people at most—according to what Kamal told her. Also, from what he said, they're trying to round it up quickly since they have to attend to the people coming to pay their condolences.

Jannah didn't care about that honestly. Neither did she care that she's about to marry Suhad—someone she had wanted to marry so badly in her life at a time but also had so many reasons to turn him down. It didn't matter though. What matters is that in less than five minutes from now she'll be his wife.

Jannah didn't want to think of the consequence that will follow. She's already going through so much. There's the pain of losing both parents, blaming herself for their death, getting betrayed by her own uncle, getting married to a man that's getting married again the following week, being a daughter in law to a woman that hates her whole existence and being co-wife to a girl that's perfect in everything while she is a failure.

Sure sounds like life is fair to her don't it?

But the thing is Jannah didn't care about anything. She had felt so many intense emotions in the past two days that she had shut down everything that will stress her. She had detached herself from everything social.

"Jannah?" Daihaah's voice snapped Jannah out of her thoughts, but she didn't turn around.

She heard Daihaah's footsteps as the pregnant woman made her way to where her best friend stood. She stopped once she was next to her before turning to face her, "How are you feeling?" she asked in a worried tone. She didn't need to ask to know that Jannah's going through a lot considering she too was a PTSD patient. One thing though is that she can't ever compare her post traumatic stress disorder to that of Jannah's since the girl lost both her parents.

Jannah shrugged, unable to open her sealed lips and utter something.

Daihaah sighed and placed her hand on Jannah's shoulder. It's times like this that one who knows the two so much will think they are related considering they have a few things in common. But, that might just be as a result of sharing a lifetime of friendship. Maybe.

Daihaah's phone pinged just as she is about to open her mouth and say something. Dropping her hand from Jannah's shoulder she brought the phone out and swiped across the screen. The corners of her lip tilted up slightly as she raised her head to look at Jannah, placing the phone back where it was, "It is official. You're tied to Suhad for life"

Jannah suck in a breath and closed her eyes letting Daihaah's words play over and over in there.

She's now Suhad's wife. There's no going back.

Reaching her hand out she clutched the rail when she feared her legs will give up on her. The thought of her life being completely changed made her head dizzy. She wanted nothing more than to find a place to sit and gather her thoughts that is now all over the place.

Daihaah noticing the slight panic attack her best friend is having, placed her hand over Jannah's own immediately making her shoulders sag, "Congratulations besty. I'm happy for you" she said as she raised the hand up, outstretched both her hands and turned Jannah to face her. "You know he will take care of you right? You know he loves you Jannah"

Jannah hesitantly let her gaze met that of Daihaah's. Without a heads-up, she leaned down and embraced her best friend whom didn't think twice about embracing her back. Daihaah felt Jannah's body tremble before she felt something soaking her shoulder.

Jannah swallowed thickly when she realized that she is crying. She didn't' know why the tears kept falling but she also didn't stop them and neither did Daihaah.

So, she cried.

Jannah fixed the veil she had wrapped into a hijab as she stared at her reflection in the mirror. Her face held no makeup whatsoever, she had already done enough by putting on the outfit Daihaah picked out for her she didn't need to go all the way by putting on head tie, makeup and whatnot.

"You look...good"

Jannah moved her gaze from her reflection to the person that stood by the door of her room leaning on the door with arms crossed. Jannah said nothing as the person unfolded her leaned position and walked towards her.

"Considering you got married today. You didn't even bother to inform your elder sister about it dear baby sister" the woman said as she placed her hand over Jannah's shoulder, her gaze meeting Jannah's gaze as they both stared at the mirror.

Jannah rolled her eyes and pushed the woman's hands off her shoulder, "I forgot I had an elder sister" she said as she stood up and walked away from the woman.

"Have an elder sister not had. The last time I checked I'm still alive" The woman said as she sat the chair Jannah's was occupying, crossing one leg over the other.

Jannah who picked up her phone sighed and dropped it. She turned to look at her elder sister, "Last time I checked you no longer consider us your family members" she said in a bored tone.

"Says who? I simply left and stayed with my husband because I don't want o get involved with you and Mama's drama"

"And so you cut ties with your family" Jannah deadpanned, her eyes boring into her sisters.

Her elder sister sighed, "Like I said, I like my peace and so I can't stand you two arguing all the time" she said like it's the most casual thing ever. "Keep that aside, you're married to the Alamin Suhad Sagir, will Mama have agreed to this if she was alive or did you kill her knowing that she will never agree?" she asked, her eyes narrowed slightly as she let her true intentions show.

Jannah released a shaky sigh and closed her eyes momentarily, "I did not kill Mama" she could feel her eyes sting with tears, but she swallowed it back in.

Her elder sister scoffed, "Oh please. Keep telling yourself that until you believe it Jannah. I bet you're damn proud of yourself; you've killed both our parents and rendered us orphans. Are you happy now Jannah?" she dropped her legs as she stood up.

Jannah bit her lower lip, "Shut up" she said through gritted teeth.

"Are you happy that you no longer have to deal with Mama? You're happy now that you've killed the two people that raised you right?" Her sister taunted her voice venomous.

"Stop" Jannah said, her voice coming out low as she felt herself chocking on her tears.

"I bet you feel on top of the world. You've killed Mama, and you've killed Baba all in the same day" her elder sister said as she took slow steps towards Jannah just to taunt the poor girl more.

Jannah couldn't hold it in anymore as her knees buckle and she fell on the floor. She clenched her eyes shut as tears fall freely down her face, her hands covering her ears to block her sister's words out but she still heard her.

"You got them out of the way so you can now marry a rich guy while we are left with nothing! You have blood on your hands Jannah. You're a murderer"

"NO!" Jannah screamed as she shook her head, "I did not kill them. It was an accident"

"It's not. You are to blame for everything"

"Hey Jannah what—" Daihaah stopped midway once she deciphered what is happening in front of her. "Jannah!" she all but ran to where her best friend sat on the floor cradling herself back and forth while mumbling stuff to whilst crying.

Her elder sister looked away and rolled her eyes at the scene to which Daihaah ignored. The pregnant woman pulled her phone out and quickly sent a message to Suhad asking him to come up knowing that she won' be able to handle Jannah at the moment.

Daihaah tried to get Jannah to snap from the trance but she couldn't. She then realized her sister's presence must be amongst the things making Jannah like that. Sp, she snapped her head in the direction of the nonchalant woman who stared at Jannah with despise written all over her face. "I think you should go" Daihaah stated harshly making the woman scoff.

"No way. I want to make sure she suffers just like my sister and I are. She deserves to suffer. She is a murderer after all" the woman stated pointing a finger at Jannah who didn't seem the least in touch with reality at the moment. She's lost in her own panic world.

"Leave" Daihaah stated again as she stood up matching her height with that of the woman that's about the same height as her. Though Jannah is model-like tall, her sister's didn't inherit that feature which makes them just as short as Daihaah. "You don't want to test my patience right now" she added through gritted teeth as her eyes narrowed at the lady.

The woman gulped. She didn't want to dare Daihaah. She alone is a Tasmanian devil and her being pregnant is a whole other issue. She's also certain that if one hair is missing on Daihaah's head because of her she'll answer to Prince. So, trying any nonsense with the girl is fighting with pepper on top of fire.

So, she threw one last nasty glance at Jannah, then at Daihaah before she walked out.

A few minutes passed with Daihaah trying to snap Jannah back to reality and with no apparent success. Just then, the door swung open and Suhad walked in.

"Jay" he said, as he made his way towards his wife while Daihaah quietly slipped out and left the couple.
