CHAPTER 13: A DRAWBACK
"I'm really glad you decided to come with me I don't know whom else to invite with me" Daihaah said to Jannah as Jannah sat in the passenger seat of Daihaah's car.
Jannah looked up, "What do you mean?" she asked, "What about Adda Anee?"
"Didn't I tell you?" Jannah shook her head no at Daihaah's question making her hum, "Nah"
"Adda and Hermano left to Katsina" Daihaah said pulling up in the parking lot of the mall the two decided to go to.
"Oh" Jannah said turning her attention back to her phone, "When will they be back?" she asked.
"They live there now"
"Huh?" Jannah knew how much the El Khabirs loved staying next to each other; especially Aamir and Faruk; those two are inseparable just like Anee and Daihaah are. "Why?"
"Well they are the future King and Queen so they want their children to grow up there amongst their family since more than half of the El Khabir clan is there" Daihaah shrugged not bothering to hide the sadness in her tone. Clearly she didn't want to be away from her sister and Hermano as if possible one can say that she is now closer to him than her very own sister.
Jannah didn't know what to say so she just shut up. If it was the former the words to reply with will be at the tip of her tongue but the Jannah of now isn't the same. This Jannah rather keep shut as her head became void of anything comforting to say.
"Let's go" Daihaah said opening the door to her side of her car as she sensed the change of mood from Jannah which she instantly recognized.
The two made their way into the mall and started their shopping spree. Initially they went there to buy a few things for Daihaah's baby but the two ended up buying more stuffs for themselves than intended all thanks to Aamir's black card which Daihaah had the pleasure of spending lavishly on the most stupid things possible like rotisseries, baby food maker, egg cooker, pasta maker, electric can opener, electric cheese grater and many more things she'll never use, ever.
After buying kitchen appliances, they went on to buy shoes, bags, coats, tops and whatnot. This area is where Jannah comes in handy as she is a fashion designer in the making.
Three hours thirty six minutes of shopping later the two ended up in a food court. Jannah was sipping her Pepsi casually as usual having finished eating her fish tacos while Daihaah's eating her pasta alfredo.
"Hold on I'll just get something I'll be right back" Jannah said standing up taking her clutch with her.
"Alright" Daihaah replied her attention not really on Jannah as she's too busy giggling at her phone no doubt chatting with her husband.
Jannah rolled her eyes and stood up with a small smile on her face. Just as she turned, her gaze landed on someone or more some people. The smile that was on her face slowly fell and eyes squinted.
She saw them.
She saw him wrap his arms around the girl's shoulder.
She saw the girl look up and him and the two smiled.
She saw him lean down and kiss the side of the girl's head.
She saw everything just like she did five years ago. And everything came crashing back, it was all the feeling of déjà vu.
Daihaah looked up noting that her friend didn't leave as she said she would and was rather standing like a statue. "Jannah?" she said but the girl's attention wasn't on her, "Jannah" she stated again but got the same response as earlier, "Jannah!"
This surely snapped Jannah's gaze away from the two. And for the first time ever Daihaah saw something she never saw in Jannah's eyes. She saw the storm that she only heard of once in the eyes of the girl she knew as her best friend. And as much as she hates to admit it, she feared the person in front of her because the last time something like this happened, it didn't end so well.
"Let's go" Jannah said, her voice coming out calmer than Daihaah would've thought she'd sound.
"Jannah..." Daihaah tried to tame the lioness that's her best friend but she knew she only made it worse. She wondered what could ever made her best friend like this. And her curiosity got the best of her because she looked behind Jannah only to see what Jannah saw.
Her eyes widened slightly as her lips pried open slightly. Before she could gather her thoughts and turn Jannah was nowhere to be found. She stood up hastily looking around for nay sight of Jannah but there weren't any. How could a girl wearing six inch heels run off without her even noticing it and how could she get so far? Daihaah wondered as she all but ran around the place looking for Jannah but she couldn't find her.
What Daihaah didn't know is that Jannah had already hailed a cab and headed back home. Deep down she was grateful that she didn't drive herself there otherwise she would've killed herself while driving back home in the state she was in.
She couldn't think rationally, heck! Rationally isn't a word that existed in her dictionary at the moment. That's why the cab driver feared her till the minute she stepped off his car because the yell and insult he received when he tried to insult her.
She stomped into her aunt's house, her heels in her hand because she's sure she will break her leg if she stomped around in it. Kamal being the jobless person he is in her words was slouching on the couch watching TV when she got in. He raised his head up slightly, "Hey shapeless-"
"SHUT THE FUCK UP!" She yelled stopping him midway.
He flinched, dramatically placing a hand over his chest, "Geez woman..."
"I SAID SHUT THE FUCKING HELL UP!!"
All trace of lark that was on his face disappeared as he sat up fully to analyze her. Sure she might get angry at him sometimes but she'll never yell at him that way. He watched her features while she stood there glaring at him, her eyes full of so much fury he had only seen once. Her shoulders raising up and then falling down as she breathes heavily. At that point he hardly thinks she'll listen to anyone for she is far too gone.
"Firdausi..." He used her real name trying to subdue her but she wasn't going to listen.
She ran upstairs and locked her room door before he could even catch up to her. The first loud crash he heard from her room just as he arrived in front of her was what scared him. He knocked on the door loudly, "Jannah open up!" he yelled but his yells were nothing compared to the earth shattering crashes coming from her room and her screams of frustration.
Her aunt whose room is next to hers quickly walked out holding her wrapper's hem with one hand so as to run faster, she stopped next to her son with her eyes widen slightly, "What happened?" she asked frustratingly yet her tone held underlying fear in it.
"I don't know, she came home like that"
"I thought she was with Daihaah" her aunt said exasperatedly as another crash followed afterwards. "Jannah open up please you'll hurt yourself!" she pleaded with the furious girl in her room but the girl has shut them out long ago.
Another crash came, followed by another, and another.
"Jannah please!"
"Mom! She won't listen to us" Kamal said trying to reason with his mother but she was having none of it. "We should just let her be"
"How can you say we should let her be?! She can hurt herself in there!"
"No she won't. Just trust her"
His mother looked at him warily unsure if she should follow his words or not, but if anything she knows he knows what's best for Jannah most so hesitantly, she agreed and the two left the girl alone to calm down first.
On the other side of the door Jannah slumped down with her back leaning on a wall as she cried. Blood dripped form her hand from where she shattered almost everything breakable in her room up and from her leg where she steppe don broken glasses. How a girl that flimsy can do so much damage is another question. But, her room and its state was the least of her concern.
All she muttered over and over was one thing, "I hate you Suhad. This is your entire fault" she muttered as the tears fall from her face freely. "You will never change. I should've known that"

She walked into the living as ostentatiously as ever. Her Brenson ankle boots make little to no sound as it made contact with the floor. Her cheery red halter on top of the ice blue jeans she had on; a nude blazer and matching turban to finish off her look.
She stopped when she saw the sight of Big Boss on the phone amidst of the living room with his back turned to her. She cleared her throat to gain his attention. And it worked because he turned to look at her and his eyes dilated slightly before his lips curl into a sadistic smile, "Hold on, I'll call you later" he threw the phone on the couch and grinned, "Mi hija"
She rolled her eyes whilst drumming her fingers on her clutch, "You know I always thought the next time I'd see you, you will be six feet under" she said making him chuckle.
"Seriously? Is that the 'I miss you' I get from my daughter?"
Layla hissed lightly as she made her way over to a sofa, "I know you're wondering how I know you're here, nanny called me" she sat on the sofa folding her legs, "And before you can think of firing her, find a new place to hide" she glared at him making his smile widen as he sat opposite her. "Besides, it wasn't hard to figure out that sooner or later you'll come here"
"I don't think there's a need for me to do that" he said a bit too confident for her liking.
"And why will you think such?" she asked raising a brow slightly.
"Just..."
"Huh..." she drawled looking at him from head to toe, "Tell me," she placed her clutch beside her, "What makes you think I won't report you to the police the minute I step out of this house?"
"Because you're my daughter of course"
She huffed, "You don't have a daughter, and if you do, it's from one of your ex wives" she said making all trace of lark to disappear from his face. "What? Surely you don't think no one knows about your ex wife right?"
She chuckled when he didn't say anything, and that was her answer. "Chill. I'm not here for that though" she waved the topic away.
"What do you want Layla?" he asked, his calm façade slowly crumbling down.
"I don't know what you're planning, but you better stop it because sooner or later, Aamir's going to find you and believe me, Daihaah and I are more than willing to help him"
"Is that why you're here?"
She licked her suddenly chapped lips before setting it into a straight line and her eyes meeting his unwavering one, "I'd prefer you turn yourself up to the police and die back home rather than to die out here"
Big Boss stared at her with caution eyes, did she know? He wondered.
"If you really love Daihaah as much as you claim you do, then do this for her at least. I know you love her more than me but at least I spent my entire life knowing whom my real father is and I wouldn't want my sister to miss that chance even if you have to live behind bars for the short time you have left" she said seriously as if she wasn't the one taunting him earlier with a past he'd like to keep secret.
"How did you know about my sickness?" he didn't beat around the bush knowing that the only reason she'll go out of her way to see him is because she must've known.
"I have my ways" she reached out to pick her clutch and then stood up still maintaining eye contact with him, "I'm your daughter after all"
She turned and started walking away but stopped just as she's about to exit, she swiveled around, "Deep down within you there's the father I knew and loved. I won't tell anyone about you being here. That's the least I can after everything you've done for me in life, but this is the end. Goodbye father"
She walked out.
