Pisces
The life of a human being.... It can be fun and rewarding when you live it right. Other than that, it's mostly sad and uneventful. The young teen with a Messy wolf cut, and Puffy green jacket with white cuffs, Not-so-tight leggings under baggy sports shorts and a Brown satchel around her shoulder, was Orcella, she thought to herself quietly completely in her own state of mind. Orcella sat in class staring out the window, watching as the domestic pigeons flocked through the clear sky.
"What would it be like to fly around freely? Birds have it easy," she said aloud.
Suddenly, two hands were firmly placed onto the desk she sat at, Orcella looked up, meeting with a pair of eyes that were well known to her. The female standing in front of her began to speak, "so did you mean to say that out loud or, this is a new thing we have to worry about?"
A small smile appeared on Orcella's face. It was a dear friend along with three others behind her, the teen in front of orcella was named Rosa. She was a Mexican beauty, born with bronze skin and long, thick brown hair. Her eyes were also brown but with a hint of fiery amber. Rosa wore a breezy auburn top that ties a knot around her bust, denim jeans that flow under her knees, and a beige cowgirl hat on top of her head. She also had strong leather boots with a golden thread design. The two boys behind her were Cloud and Rain. Cloud wore his usual denim jacket with ripped sleeves, and a striped red and black long sleeve underneath, along with black pants and crocs. He had Light brown skin and curly dark red puffy hair. His body was a pretty thin shape and had a pair of soft Brown eyes. Then there's rain who wore a gray flannel jacket along with a white and black striped long sleeve, with dark blue pants and brownish yellow rain boots. Rain had Blackish brown curly hair, Light tan skin. Other than his brother who has a more chubby body with some definition in the face. Yet keeping the family Brown eyes. Finally, there was Kieara. She was the diva of the group, but was also practical. Kieara had fair, soft skin and had gray eyes that were commonly mistaken for blue. When she gets ready for the day, Kieara keeps her looks natural with little to no makeup. And her hair was silver, cut to a bob, with her natural black roots growing in. She wore a white, lacy fabric dress that had a sweetheart neckline and went down to her mid-thigh, so she wore black tight shorts to cover underneath. She also had a zip-up holographic jacket and titanium white, mid-high heel ankle boots.
Kieara scoffed as she rolled her eyes, "What can you possibly be daydreaming about? Some magical fairy helping you reality shift into a world where you're an actual interesting person?"
Cloud trembled to hide his laugh, holding onto Rain for support. While Kieara felt so proud of herself, Rosa slowly raised her hand and bonked the girl on the head with a scolding glare. A small whimper came from Kieara as she rubbed her upper forehead, meanwhile Cloud simply cleared his throat as Rain shoved him off his shoulder. Orcella sighed standing up, her face not showing any signs of resentment nor hurt. She simply placed her hand onto Kieara's shoulder and smiled, her words spoken soft, "I missed you too dude, it's been a while since you've been gone. Glad you haven't changed a bit." Kieara's face softly frowned then went to a little smile, she crossed her arms not wanting to respond. Orcella looked over to Rosa then toward her mess of a desk. Rain walked over looking down at it, but simply not giving a word before adjusting the desk to look more "proper."
Orcella crossed her arms, burrowing an eyebrow, "you're such a perfectionist, almost like a butler." There was no response from Rain as he simply handed her the neatly placed papers in a folder and began to walk away. Rosa, noticing his hurry to leave, grabbed onto Orcella's hand and began to follow, along with Kieara and Cloud following closely. She tilted her head in confusion, "where are we going?"
Rosa looked at her then back to Rain who was walking ahead. "There's this really neat cafe Rain has been excited to go to, which is honestly surprising. He doesn't usually show signs of wanting to go anywhere."
Rain had led the group to the cafe not far from their school. When they entered, the place was pretty empty with very few customers still hanging around. Rain sighed in relief. They made it in time, just after the lunch hour rush. Orcella and the others looked around. The establishment was nicely decorated with flower vases and abstract art pieces on the wall. The aroma of fresh baked goods, savory specials, and coffee filled the air inside, giving the patrons the most welcoming feeling.
"Ayo? This place is nice!" Cloud smiled, genuinely impressed. "How did you hear about it?"
Rain pulled out his phone and shared his screen to his friends, "I found out about them on TumYum. On their page, they said they were the best in L.A. I came here the other day and the menu is- mm. Phenomenal."
"In that case," Kieara smirked, "you're picking our food. And mine has to be low cal and non-GMO!"
Cloud softly leaned onto Rain crossing his arms, "dude. You're like the croissant connoisseur."
And Orcella smiled, placing her hands into her puffy hoodie pockets. "Well, I hope that isn't all they got."
"Trust me, I know good food when I smell it." Rain said confidently as he stepped up to counter. The lady up front greeted him and he greets back, "good afternoon. Listen, before I order, can you tell me what you have for a diet snob?" He mischievously turned over to Kieara who was discreetly giving him the finger.
Nervously, the cashier responded, "we do have healthy options, yes. Is she, or any, of your friends allergic to nut ingredients?"
Cloud grinned deviously and pointed at Kieara. "Oh, she is... She can't have Deez- ah, ah, ah! Hey!" Before he could get through his joke, Rosa stopped him by pulling harshly on his ear.
"No, we're good. Ignore him," she smiled innocently and whispered to him, "cierra la maldita boca y compórtate."
Leading Cloud to wince, "girl, what are you sayin'? You know I don't speak French."
"If the couple over there is done bickering, they should know I just put down their food and drink order. And I'm not paying for 'em." Rain sassed as both Rosa and Cloud gave each other one final glance before taking out their wallets to pay the total.
Orcella looked over, hoping Rain got her something enjoyable. After she too paid the total for the treat, the group began to move over to take their seats. As well as catching up on a few things from school. The group was working on their homework for a good while, until two servers came by with their drinks, then their food.
Kieara got a vanilla cappuccino for a drink and, per her request, got an Organic Granola bowl to eat. It had vanilla yogurt as the base, covered with granola, berries, cinnamon, and a light drizzle of organic honey on top. The yogurt was low on fat and the berries were non-GMO, much to girl's delight.
Cloud asked for something sweet but small from both food and drinks, so Rain recommended a simple small coffee and a Phyllo Apple Pie. The pastry was served in a cup that most people would use for Crème brûlée, hence its potentially given size. For the crust, it was a thin dough that would become flakey after baking and the filling was made with three types of apples: Granny Smith, Gala, and Honey Bee with cinnamon.
Rosa was the kind of person who loved spicy foods, no surprise to her friends. She got the Coriander and chili gyoza and they were a seasonal special at this time of year. It was served in a small, fancy plate that carried five pieces of the gyoza, surrounding a cup of the spicy dipping sauce. Inside was the grinded pork with a few veggies mixed in. This was something Rosa hadn't tried before but she was willing to give it a chance. Along with that, she has an iced caramel macchiato as her drink.
Then for Orcella, she had no preference as long as it was good, and despite that, Rain knew what to get her. The drink she received was chai latte with an oat milk substitute and a Blackcurrant Cheesecake Tart as her pastry. It wasn't anything too special, other than there being ginger in the graham cracker crust. And once she takes a bite, it will taste smooth and creamy with a slight tanginess from the blackcurrant berries.
Finally, Rain's order was Americano style coffee with light sugar and creamer and a Rhubarb Mint Cheesecake. For those who are unfamiliar, rhubarb is a stock vegetable with a pinkish-red color, like a celery. When raw, it's crunchy and tart that many find distasteful, but after it's cooked, the vegetable is soft and people put sugar to even out its previous taste. Similar to Orcella's cheesecake, it's smooth and creamy but with a freshness of mint in the mix. The slice was topped off with a half-cut strawberry and two mint leaves underneath it.
"Whoa, dude," Cloud's jaw dropped in awe, and so did everyone else's, "these all look so good."
Rain smiled proudly, "I told you I know good food. And if the looks don't impress you, the taste will."
"Well, we'll see about that," Kieara scoffed as she took a spoon full of her yogurt bowl. The group stared at their prissy friend. Her furrowed brows got tighter in protest, it was good and her friends could see right through her. "It's...not as bad as I thought.."
That was the cue for the rest of the group to try their dishes and they were not disappointed. Each member had enjoyed every bite, some had even shared. When it was getting late, the teenagers split their ways home and it was Orcella and Rosa walking back together.
"Hoo! Que dia," Rosa stretched her arms up, "right, Orcella?"
Orcella nodded with a soft grin, patting her belly. "Yup. School was boring but that cheesecake was great. I'll definitely visit that cafe more often."
"Ah, pues, tell me when you do. I would love to go back for some girl time."
"Hehe, sure thing."
The two girls walked through their neighborhood and arrived home safely. Orcella and Rosa were the closest childhood friends you could find. Growing up in the same apartment complex and stuck together since kindergarten, it had not only brought them close, but their families closer. If anything, these two thought of themselves as cousins. They reached their door and waved goodnight to one another.
As Orcella entered her home, it was quiet and empty. The young lady had already assumed that her parents were working overtime again so she just got ready for bed. Once she was within her bed's covers, her eyelids started to feel heavy and her mind was going dark. Soon enough, Orcella was out like a candle light.
Her eyes squinted with the interruption of a warm embrace of light. Orcella slowly opened her eyelids allowing the rays of the sun to lay soft kisses upon her face. She began to sit up, turning over toward the window with blinds slightly turned down. Reaching her arm over she pulled down on the small bit of rope letting the blinds open from the window. The beautiful wonder filled blue sky with its sun shining bright as a guide to another world. A small little smile showed on Orcella's face, a wonderful sunkissed day, the girl went on to her daily routine, with washing up, then enjoying a first meal of the day. Small toast with strawberry jam and almond milk to wash it down. After finishing her morning breakfast Orcella began to dress for the occasion.
Although wearing her usual outfit of the puffy green jacket and brown satchel. She decided to wear shorts over her leggings, then began to start her journey to the Music festival down at the park. With an amount of joy, she continued on out the door and toward the festival. Sounds of cheer and joy could be heard from afar, almost like a daze, of warm delight and atmosphere as light as feathers.
She ran towards the festival with excitement. There, music could be heard in every corner; rock, hip-hop, country, you name it. This was the Music Festival and Orcella had waited months for it. As she walked around, she took in everything there was to offer. There were band groups signing autographs, instruments and merchandise being sold, and music themed snacks being handed out to anyone the vendors see passing by. Everyone had their preferred genres and each of them were organized by their category and branches. There was also a giant stage at the back of the festivities, with large screen panels and speakers framing it from its sides. It was where the most popular, selected artists and bands would play.
"Wow.." Orcella uttered breathlessly. She was in awe. It almost felt like a dream, especially with blue colored grass and the shimmering night sky. "Wait, we don't have starry nights in LA...and there's no such thing as blue grass-"
Suddenly, that same grass started to bloom with overgrowth sprouting tiny silky grabby hands. Orcella sharply gasped as it placed its soft yet demanding hands and gripped onto her legs and pulled her down into the soil. While struggling, it felt like being submerged into quicksand. Orella's heart began to race, she tried her best to keep calm. But her own breath was being taken away by the second, she began to hyperventilate. Breathing in and out, in and out, until she couldn't anymore, all she could do was take a deep breath as she went under, her only hand reaching out before sinking too. Now submerged, in the thick black space of emptiness, it felt as if air was simply grazing past her. Yet she couldn't move her body, she then suddenly felt her chest sink in, pulling her downward. Orcella tried her best to turn her head toward where she was hurdling in the direction of. It was the Earth getting closer and closer, until everything suddenly went dark. She softly opened her eyes, the sun gently kissed her skin. It was all a dream, but it felt incredibly real.
Slightly shaken up by that night, Orcella got out of bed and dressed for the day. After eating breakfast, she thought it would be good to take a stroll through the nearby park, so she grabbed her house keys and headed out. Of course, she could've asked a friend to come along with her, but she assumed they were busy and would be fine on her own today. On her way to the park, the sun was high up with clear skies, birds were chirping within the trees on the sidewalk, and the leaves were crunching under her feet with every step.
Orcella smiled as she felt the late morning winds brushed on her face and found herself at the park. She saw a few dog walkers and children having fun at the playgrounds while their parents watched. Her trip lasted a good half hour with a short break of getting some shaved ice from a passing vendor. All this had cleared the girl's head from last night's dream, suddenly a giant finger sprouted from the pathway cracks. In quick pace yet as soft as a pillow, It had poked Orcella in the stomach, making her lose her balance and fall back.
Orcella held onto her stomach trying to grasp and understand what that feeling was that made her tumble. Her eyes quickly shot open, staring at a wonderful teal lit sky and white puffy clouds. It was bright, and the air felt soft, moistfull and clear. Orcella sat up but was then greeted with a set of breathtaking crimson red eyes, with a set as beautiful as those, a massive male sat in front of her, with looks of amazement toward the young girl. The giant in front of her was extremely tall, even so with Well built arms and muscle definition. The male had long bluish gray hair and those wonderful red crimson eyes. The giant had light brownish skin, long dreaded hair with some tucked behind his ear, and a scar going down his jaw. The giant had a leather jacket with an orange hue and white fur for its hoodie. He also wore blue cargo shorts and brown boots.
Orcella stared at the giant male in awe, but in slight fear, she tried her best to keep a stern face toward what she hoped wouldnt harm her. After a while of the two staring at one another. The giant broke the silence with ease without saying a single word. The male reached his hand out, but in reaction Orcella's heart raced, she tried to quickly get onto her feet and make a break for it but immediately was enclosed by the giant's hand, the giant slid Orcella closer toward himself. Her eyes now met with his again, but this felt different. She now has a closer look at the male, there felt no evil intent in his face. He almost looked amused rather than someone who intends harm, the giant's hands lifted up, going near his own chest and forming a heart. Orcella noticed this with slight confusion, before deciding to do the same, her hands lifted up near her chest and slowly formed a heart as well.
The giant's eyes lit up, in a soft yet enthusiastic voice he began to speak "You can understand me?"
Orcella tilted her head still needing a moment for all of this to set in. "understand? Wait, im. Heavily confused right now, who are you?"
The male sat up straight crossing his arms, and with a proud smile he responded "My name is Oasis! Pisces of the giants! What about you?" Orcella smiled at the warm feeling from the grin Oasis gave, she then stood up placing her hands onto her hips. "The name's Orcella, uhm- taurus of the.. Humans?" Oasis began to let out a small laugh before placing a thumbs up to Orcella,
"Not bad, I can tell you have no clue what's goin on, but you could've fooled me. It's alot to fill you in about, so I'd say the best thing for me to do is go over the small history of our realms."
The giant spun his hands, water began to sprout creating many waves and water swirling around his arms until eventually forming figures of pure water.
"Long ago, there were twelve gods, masters of elements, magic and weaponry, each born in a specific time of the year. These gods worked together in creating the multiverse, a place where many realms and universus exist. Giant, Human, Owlin, demon, angel , fairy, harengon, Behemoth, gnome, griffin, triton, and phoenix. Each separated by four elements, air. Water. nature. And fire. Each ability has its own people, who gain special abilities and one special power, made of your own soul and capabilities."
Orcella listened carefully, her eyes filled with wonder gazing and hearing the story of what would be perceived as a fairytale, she slowly sat down looking at her own hands "do I have these special powers?" She asked, her voice soft with a shimmer of hope.
Oasis smiles holding his hand out, "of course you do! I can show you it all." Orcella gratefully climbs onto his hand eventually leading up to her sitting on his shoulder. The male began to stand up, he pointed his hand outward as a tidal wave of water began to hurdle toward them, and as soon as it went over their heads, a wonderful world full of fantasy surrounded them.
