iv. he's practically dr. seuss
for reference, dakota's suit is the iron man neon tech design:
dakota liked peter a lot. he was, as it turned out, one of the smartest guys in the world. he also proved aunt may right; he did have the biggest crush on her. kodie could have sworn she'd even seen herself as his phone wallpaper before he quickly shoved the device back into his pocket.
aside from that (and his superhuman abilities), he was a completely normal kid. it had been years since kodie had been around someone her age that didn't seem out to use her. other than wanda, of course, but they didn't have much in common. conversation with peter seemed endless-- partly because he was extremely talkative, but mainly because they shared similar interests and hobbies.
happy hogan and dakota had both been in the car to pick up peter from his apartment, and the boy seemed flustered as he saw the girl again. "i'm peter." he said to happy, who didn't even bother to introduce himself, wordlessly turning up the volume of the car and blasting 'highway to hell'. they were, actually, just on the highway to avengers tower.
"new york." peter spoke in a gravelly voice from next to dakota, recording a video of the highway. "queens. it's a rough borough, but hey, it's home."
"who are you talking to?" happy asked from the front seat as peter turned the camera onto him.
"no one." peter said, in a normal voice this time. "just making a little video of the trip."
happy shook his head in exasperation. "you know you can't show it to anyone."
peter nodded. "yeah, i know."
"then why are you narrating in that voice?" happy countered, unimpressed.
"uh," peter trailed off, "because it's fun."
"fun." happy repeated, putting on his sunglasses and solemnly looking out the windshield.
peter kept the camera on happy. "so, uh, why do they call you happy?" happy raised the limo's partition, and peter's reflection shone back at him, the other half of the reflection being dakota laughing from the seat next to him.
once at the tower, dakota approached the jet parked outside. peter eyed it warily, making the girl chuckle. happy glanced at peter. "come on. i'm not carrying your bags. let's go." the man then turned to kodie. "kodes, do you want me to carry your bags?"
dakota sat near the middle of the jet, trying to give herself a view of the wing. happy plopped into the back of the jet, leaving both kids to themselves. peter anxiously approached kodie's seat, mumbling a soft, "can i sit here?" to dakota, who nodded, smiling up at him.
"so," peter had said after the two sat in silence for a few moments, "did may say anything embarrassing about me to you?" he asked, twiddling his thumbs, an act that seemed to be a habit of his.
"well," kodie began, laughing a little, "she basically said that i'm your celebrity crush."
peter dropped his head into his hands, his face red. "she did not."
dakota laughed, placing a hand on his bicep. "it's fine, it was actually pretty funny." she assured him, loving how red he'd gotten at the mention of it. the two sat in comfortable silence for a few minutes before dakota wordlessly rested her head on his shoulder, feeling him tense for a second before relaxing.
they stayed there for a while as dakota scrolled through her phone, chuckling at anything funny before showing it to peter. when she lifted her head from his shoulder, they talked and talked, realizing just how much they had in common.
happy fell asleep in the middle of the ride, and peter, of course, took a video of it, but the kids' laughing made happy wake up, immediately scolding the two teens who were doubled over with laughter.
for the rest of the ride, the two had become good friends. peter nearly swooned when the stark girl entered her name and phone number into his contacts list. "so, why are you called sapphiron?" peter asked as he turned his camera to dakota, continuing to get footage for his video. the camera was way too close to her face, providing a horrendous (and hilarious) angle.
"it's a play on words." she explained. "sapphire. iron man. sapphiron."
peter's brow furrowed. "sure, but your suit isn't blue." he said. "it's black with the blue stripes."
"it used to be all blue, haven't you even done your research?"
he lowered the camera, continuing to ask her questions about how and why she'd made her suit. why she'd changed it to be black, why it had different upgrades and styles than her father's. she responded with questions for peter-- what would his ideal spider-man suit look like? what tech would be in the suit? mentally, of course, she was taking notes of all of this.
when the jet landed in germany, kodie stepped out of it, looking at her surroundings. she thanked the pilot, which she thought was funny because there was no pilot (all of the stark planes and jets were unmanned, which she actually hated), and she grabbed her things from happy's hands, not wanting him to carry anything for her.
the group of three had gone sight seeing in berlin, and peter recorded footage of kodie getting mobbed by adoring 'sapphiron' fans while she tried to buy a pretzel. the next shot was her hiding inside of an umbrella "taylor swift style" to avoid getting recognized.
"no one has actually told me why i'm in berlin or what i'm doing." peter told his camera. "something about captain america going crazy."
"he's not gone crazy, he's just protecting his friend." dakota mumbled around a mouth full of pretzel, watching as peter turned the camera onto her.
"whose side are you even on?" happy asked in the background.
"team edward" she replied instantly, though happy wasn't nearly amused by the comment as she was.

the hotel was nice, and dakota wished it was the only place she had to be in germany for the day. the last thing she had wanted was a fight among the avengers. kodie knew that it wasn't just her who had begun to think of them as a family, and as the only family she'd ever had. hazel, wanda, steve, sam.. dakota didn't want to fight any of the people she loved. but steve wouldn't back down-- not when he was doing what he believed was right. but neither would her father. and then the fight would break out, and it would end up being dakota versus hazel, which was a fight she'd never dreamt of.
happy safely led peter to his hotel room while dakota got picked up by tony. happy had later told dakota of how happy peter was when he saw the case on his hotel room's coffee table adorned with a post-it note that read 'a minor upgrade. -- t.s. & d.s.'
dakota and her father immediately headed to the airport, and dakota got into her suit before their arrival. she met with natasha, vision, and rhodey outside, feeling her stomach spin in somersaults. peter was, supposedly, in his position, hiding. he was their secret weapon, of sorts. dakota, tony, and rhodey flew into the scene, opting for the traditional grand stark entrance.
"wow," tony said, turning to his suited comrades, "it's so weird how you run into people at the airport. don't you think that's weird?"
"definitely weird." rhodey replied.
"so weird." kodie added as the three landed on the ground, the helmet of her suit fading to show her face, her hair up in the messiest of ponytails.
her heart nearly broke as she looked at hazel, who was across from her and next to steve. "hear me out, tony." steve began. "that doctor, the psychiatrist, he's behind all of this." he claimed, talking about the man that had been in the room with bucky before his outburst. steve was as genuine as always, and dakota honestly believed him. t'challa entered the scene unannounced, leaping over a truck. he still hadn't forgiven bucky for his father's death.
"anyway," tony ignored steve's claim, "ross gave me 36 hours to bring you in. that was 24 hours ago. can you help a brother out?"
steve shook his head. "you're after the wrong guy."
"your judgment is askew. your old war buddy killed innocent people yesterday."
"and there are five more super soldiers just like him." dakota's eyes widened at this information, turning to her father. none of them were prepared for that."i can't let the doctor find them first, tony. i can't."
natasha stepped in next to dakota. "steve, you know what's about to happen. do you really want to punch your way out of this one?"
dakota wondered what steve planned to do if he did find the other winter soldiers. if they were all brainwashed by hydra, as bucky had been, then they were most likely all violent. she didn't even want to think about the fight that would break out from that.
"all right, i've run out of patience." tony sighed, putting his hands to his lips. "underoos!" he called, signalling peter's entrance. the boy shot a web, stealing steve's shield and binding his hands before landing on a bannister. "nice job, kid."
"thanks." peter told him. "well, i could've stuck the landing a little better. it's just the new suit... well, it's nothing, mr. stark. it's--it's perfect. thank you."
"yeah, we don't really need to start a conversation."
peter nodded. "okay. cap... captain." peter saluted steve before gesturing to himself. "big fan, i'm spider-man."
"that rhymed." dakota told him.
"yeah, he's practically dr seuss, we'll talk about it later. just . . ." tony trailed off, frustrated.
"hey, everyone." peter said awkwardly, only to be met with silence.
"you've been busy." steve said simply.
"and you've been a complete idiot." tony replied. "dragging in clint. 'rescuing' wanda from a place she doesn't even want to leave, a safe place. i'm trying to keep . . ." tony looked to the side, trying to calm himself down. "i'm trying to keep you from tearing the avengers apart."
dakota looked to the ground sadly when steve replied with "you did that when you signed." tony made another attempt to stop steve, telling him that he was lucky it was them instead of j-soc guys that would show him no mercy.
steve held up his hands, and clint shot an arrow to remove the webbing. "alright, lang."
"hey, guys," peter spoke, getting tony and dakota's attention. "something . . ." scott lang, ant-man, as he called himself, retrieved steve's shield, handing it to him with an adoring "i believe this is yours, captain america." apparently, the other team had a secret weapon, too.
"oh, great." kodie mumbled, listening to her dad's orders to find where wanda was located. flying into the air, she scouted the area, looking for her friend. "sam and bucky are in the terminal." she informed her father. dakota was ready to go back to finding wanda before she noticed clint shooting an arrow at her. "come on!" she didn't have the chance to dodge it, and although it didn't harm her, it jammed something in her suit, causing her to slowly lower to the ground. "j.e.e.p., what's damaged?" dakota asked her ai, who simply claimed she didn't know.
j.e.e.p. stood for "just expect every possibility". while dakota was accustomed to jarvis and now to friday, she had decided within the past year to design her own ai that worked specifically in her suit. it proved helpful in situations, like this one, when the two starks were separated and had different problems to deal with.
on the ground now, dakota removed the arrow, listening as j.e.e.p. informed her that the suit should be in good shape to fly. she then noticed t'challa, who was trying to find bucky. t'challa had clearly been fighting for a majority of his life, because his moves were so smooth. sighing, dakota flew over, grabbing t'challa's fist in her iron one, catching it as he moved to punch her. "i know you weren't there when we discussed the plan, but it was to go easy." she tells him, not wanting him to hurt hazel.
"my plan sounds a bit different than yours." he replied, moving to kick kodie. obviously, her iron leg wasn't moved by his, so she just stood her ground.
"come on, man, you're technically on the same side as me, please don't make me fight you." she mumbled, still using her strength to hold back his fist. t'challa didn't seem to care, using his other arm to punch dakota in the mask of her suit. "okay."
hazel appeared out of seemingly nowhere, kicking a foot out to take t'cholla onto the ground. "thanks." kodie breathed, watching as hazel nodded silently.
kodie hit him with an energy blast small enough to only briefly knock him out, sending him into a pile of boxes. it was then that she noticed the flying cars around her father.
flying over to the scene, dakota turned to wanda and clint. "wanda," she turned to her, "what the hell, man?" wanda simply shrugged, leaving kodie to help move the cars. once tony was able to get out, she looked up to see peter falling out of a window. "goodness.." she mumbled, flying up to catch the boy before he could hit the ground.
"thanks, miss. stark." peter said, dakota carrying him bridal style as she flew.
"please don't ever call me that again." she replied, setting him on the ground and meeting her father by rhodey and natasha.
vision stopped steve's group from getting to their quinjet, and dakota landed next to peter among the team of tony, rhodey, natasha, vision, and t'challa. she looked ahead at the other group, who all looked much more determined than she felt. "this is gonna end well." she mumbled sarcastically as the groups began to walk forwards.
"they're not stopping." peter pointed out.
"neither are we." tony replied as both groups broke into sprints.
