Vision In White

Do you believe in fate? I started believing in it, that week. A pair of sparkling ocean-blue eyes, watching me from afar, but close enough to send shivers down my spine.

We were closing in on the cathedral. I was an architecture buff myself, so I trusted my knowledge of architectural history, to fill the awkward silence between us, seeing as, somehow William yet again, was the only person besides me.

"Strasbourg cathedral is an outstanding masterpiece of Gothic art. The construction of the Romanesque cathedral, of which only the crypt and the footprint remain, began in 1015. The spire of the current building, in a Gothic style, was completed in 1439." I blurt out with impressive confidence. "Viewed from the outside, the cathedral's facade provides one of the finest picture books of the Middle Ages that you will ever see. The hundreds of sculptures that almost seem to leap out at you from the wall make great use of light and shadow effects. The color of the pink sandstone changes according to the time of day and the color of the sky. Inside the building, the long nave provides the perfect setting for spiritual contemplation. The stained-glass windows dating from the 12th and 14th centuries form a particularly enchanting sight along with the rose window. The huge organ includes a remarkable case equipped with animated figures." He arched a brow, glaring at me in bewilderment.

"It is a little over 142 m, tall not including the watch tower."

"Impressive!" I beam at him.

"So are you!" It seemed unbelievable at first, but now I felt as if we had an entire secret code between us. Even if, this code was love for architecture and history, alone. I don't know, why I feel compelled to shift the focus of this conversation, but I do.

"What are your plans for college and major?"

"LSAT-s and Law school, and for you, I would guess Art History, perhaps?"

"Oh, god no! Architecture and Restoration!"

"Who's going to be teaching your History elective? Mires?"

"How, did you guess that right?"

"I am considering, that elective myself. Moreover, I like to know who I am constantly paired up with." He shrugged his shoulders.

An unmistakable melody snapped us away from our conversation. A wedding march!

The gates of the cathedral gaped open in front of us, and thus the two of us became unwilling wedding - crashes. A vision in white, manifested in front of my eyes, like a fantasy, come to life. The bride's gown resembled the royal dresses I loved reading of in my favorite historical romances, and just like that, I immersed myself fully in the here and now! She reminded me of an empress. Impeccable, flawless, powerful. All a girl like me, dreams of one day embodying.

I barely made out his next words, whispered beneath his breath.

"One day, they will celebrate your own wedding day in that same cathedral if you let me...."

Chris and Alexander were waving at us, so I grabbed his hand and ran to them, struggling to keep, my emotions in check.
