Breakfast in the Great Hall was normally a quieter affair, especially in comparison to dinner. A lot of students were just barely waking up and were too tired to carry on big conversations. Most of the time, the kids spent their time completing their homework last minutes or reading letters from their families.
That morning, however, was much more eventful than usual for a certain group of Gryffindors.
At a first glance, George seemed to be acting the same as usual. However, Ron was sitting across the table from George, which was how he became first to figure out what was slightly different about George that day. Although, even then, he didn't entirely figure out what had changed about George since the night before.
"Hold on, George," Ron began in a loud voice, earning the attention of most of their friends sitting in the near vicinity. "Why are you wearing a Ravenclaw tie?"
Fred choked on his porridge. Going wide-eyed, George immediately went to stand up and escape the situation, but Fred grabbed him by the arm and forced him to sit back down on the table again.
"Yeah, George, what's with the new tie choice today?" Fred questioned in a loud voice, pretending to play dumb. "Another totally unrelated question – why did you never come back after Quidditch practice last night?"
George's face went an even darker shade of red. "None of your business," He managed to say through gritted teeth.
His embarrassment only seemed to make Fred persist even more than before. "As your beloved twin brother, I feel like I have the right to know exactly where you disappeared off to last night."
"Do you have something you'd like to share with the table today, Georgie?" Lee added with a practically maniacal grin.
Harry leaned over to his two best friends and asked, "What's George getting so embarrassed about?"
Shrugging, a confused Ron answered, "Don't know, but it must be pretty bad if George is getting so embarrassed about it."
"I'm not explaining it," Hermione muttered. She flipped to the next page in her Ancient Runes textbook, however, she wasn't entirely paying attention because she kept finding herself listening in on the conversation playing out in front of her.
"I'm not sure why Georgie is so hesitant about telling me his whereabouts last night," Fred insisted, earning a dark glare out of his twin brother. "What do you have to hide?"
"Oh, I'm sure George has a lot to hide," Lee teased, tugging at the collar of George's uniform sweater. George smacked his hand away, which only seemed to egg the two boys on even more.
In comparison, the Ravenclaw table was much more subdued. Maybe it was because many of her housemates had been ignoring Adeline for most of the school year or they were usually less upfront and loud than most the Gryffindors, but it took much longer for Adeline to realize her mistake.
Estelle, however, had noticed the moment Adeline had sat down that morning next to her at breakfast. But, she waited for a few minutes before commenting, "Nice new tie you've got on there."
Adeline was confused at first. Then, she looked down and felt her face heat up when she saw the red and gold instead of her usual blue and silver. "Made a mistake this morning," Adeline mumbled, ducking her head down in an attempt to cover up the tie. "Do you think anyone else has noticed?"
Estelle turned her head around and part of the Gryffindor table practically erupting. "Maybe not in Ravenclaw, but I'd stay away from the Gryffindors if I were you."
Hand-in-hand, Melanie and Cedric made their way over to the Ravenclaw table with confused looks on their faces. "Anyone know why the Gryffindor table is especially crazy this morning?" She asked as the couple sat down next to Estelle and Adeline.
Estelle didn't say a word and instead gestured with her head towards Adeline. Melanie snorted with laughter when she saw Adeline's embarrassed look and red and gold tie. "Rookie mistake, Adeline."
"I know, I know..." Adeline mumbled, hiding her head in her hands. "I think I'm going to go hide away in my dorm until the Gryffindor's calm down."
"I wouldn't go so soon," Estelle remarked. "Ophelia is making her way here, and if you try and leave now, she'll probably chase you down the corridor."
Adeline looked from her hands to see Ophelia practically skipping over to the table with a maniacal smile on her face, making Adeline dread what was about to happen next. She had no idea what Ophelia was going to say to her, but based on her personality alone, Adeline had the feeling Ophelia was going to be even worse to her than Fred and Lee were to George.
Ophelia sat down right next to Adeline, and she was a little unnerved by the mischievous glint in her eyes. However, none of Ophelia's actions could have prepared Adeline for what she was about to say next.
"So...how big is his dick?"
Pumpkin juice came spurting out of Adeline's mouth. Cedric immediately stood up and walked away from the conversation with bright red cheeks, leaving behind a hysterically-laughing Melanie, a mortified Estelle, and an extremely flustered Adeline.
Ophelia, on the other hand, seemed completely unbothered by the chaos she had caused. As Estelle got water for a still coughing Adeline, she questioned aloud, "What? We all know they shagged!"
"That doesn't mean you have to ask such invasive questions," Adeline hissed, glaring at her. "And in the Great Hall at that! Are you crazy?"
"We're best friends! This is the kind of information you tell us!"
"That is not the kind of information that I tell you!" Adeline shot back before standing up and starting to move away from the table. "I'm leaving, and I'm not hanging out anywhere near you until you start being so weird."
Adeline practically ran out of the Great Hall, and George was close behind. He caught up to her quickly and found her turning down an empty corridor. As George approached her, Adeline was struggling to untie George's tie from around her neck.
"You need a little help over there, Addie?" George called out as he made his way towards her. "Thought you seemed pretty good at that last night.
"Well someone seems a lot more confident, considering I just saw you get teased mercilessly by Fred and Lee," Adeline said with an eye roll. George, however, couldn't help but notice the small smile still on her face. "Though, as embarrassed as you looked, I think you're secretly happy that your friends know that you got a good shag."
George didn't answer and his smug grin remained, which let Adeline know everything she needed to. She sighed and extended her arm out to him with his tie in her hand. "Could you put the tie back on already? So we can avoid even more embarrassment?"
"Really? Put the tie back on? That's not you were saying last night, Addie."
Cheeks burning, Adeline looked around the corner to make sure none of their friends were sneakily listening in on the conversation. When she turned to look back at George, he seemed pleased with himself over the comment. "Merlin, George, can you stop with the comments in such a public setting? Do you know how badly our friends and your brother would tease us if they heard you make a comment like that?" Adeline hissed as she snatched her Ravenclaw tie out of his hands.
"Like they haven't teased us enough this morning," George answered with a cheeky grin. "Might as well own up to it. I do want to know what Ophelia said to make you spit your pumpkin juice all over the Ravenclaw table."
"Probably wouldn't be interesting to you," Adeline mumbled, praying that George would move away from that topic of conversation as soon as possible.
George knew that he would probably find Ophelia's comment very interesting, but he also knew that Adeline wasn't likely to admit anything any time soon. He moved on quickly from his thoughts on whatever Ophelia's comment was, however, when he felt Adeline placed his Gryffindor tie around him. "Since you aren't doing it yourself..." She mumbled as she began to properly tie it around his neck. "I'd like also like my tie back, thank you very much."
Albeit begrudgingly, George placed Adeline's loose tie around her shoulders. "By the way," He began as Adeline finished up hos. "I'd probably stay a distance away from Fred and Lee if I were you. I don't know what they're going to say to you, and it'd probably be best if neither of us found out."
"My plan is to stay far away from all the Gryffindors for a while," Adeline responded with a small laugh. She then finished knotting up her own tie and looked back up at George with a smile on her face. "Maybe we should be a little more careful with whose clothes we put on afterwards."
George raised a brow and took a step closer to Adeline. "Are you saying there's going to be a next time?"
"You'd be lucky if there was a next time–"
"Love you too, Addie," George interrupted in a loud, happy voice as he leaned down to kiss her on the cheek. He then wrapped an arm around her waist as the two began to walk down the corridor, and George couldn't help but grin to himself when he saw Adeline fighting back a smile.
