Chapter Three
There was a huge tongue slobbering on Joey's face, like a Great Dane was licking him.
Joey pushed the dog aside and got up, rubbing his eyes. When he opened them, he jumped back and screamed.
A huge dark brown figure was standing in fronting of him, drooling, panting, and wagging his tail.
It had dark brown fur so thin it looked like skin. It had stubby ears and a short snout. It had long fangs and a flat, boxy head. It had huge black dragon wings and a long tail with a hard arrowhead at the tip.
"What?" Amelia snickered. "You don't have droggons on your world?"
Joey couldn't say anything. He could barely shake his head.
"Anyways, he's gonna be our transportation. His name is Arrow." She pet the droggon and he licked her back.
"How can he stand on this wood without breaking it?" Joey finally spoke.
"Metalplanks. Can withstand anything. Even fire."
Joey realized that everyone was awake.
"Are we leaving yet?" Roxy asked. "Or are you just gonna keep staring?"
"We're leaving. Holly, you'll be with my brother." Amelia motioned for Toby to come over.
"You two will be on Seashine," Amelia said.
"Seashine?" Holly repeated.
"She's a syhert. She'll be waiting for you below the treehouse." Amelia patted her droggon.
"Up y'all go! Ha! Let's get this party started!" Amelia laughed.
Roxy, Joey, and Andy climbed up on the beast. Amelia took the front.
"Hold on tight!" She called.
The droggon took to the air and soared high in the sky, Andy holding on to Amelia, Joey holding on to Andy, and Roxy grabbing Joey.
"Woo!" Andy chanted.
"How do you think she got that scar?" Roxy whispered.
"What scar?" Joey whispered back.
"Really? The nasty one over her left eye that stands out!" Roxy snapped.
Joey shrugged. "Guess I didn't notice it."
"How could you not? It's like a dog with blue fur!" Roxy growled.
"What are you guys talking about?" Amelia asked.
"Nothing!" The said in unity.
She laughed. "Okay, then."
Joey glared at Roxy.
"What?" Roxy shrugged.
"Where are we going?" Joey asked.
"To get your portal back!" Amelia answered.
"Isn't that dangerous?" Andy said worriedly.
"You put alcohol in your body every chance you get and you want to talk about dangerous?" Joey said sarcastically.
Andy glared at him.
"It tastes good."
"So if ants tasted good, would you eat them?" Joey said.
"Yes!"
"You wouldn't."
"Maybe if I tried them!"
"Will you try them?"
Andy didn't respond.
"That's what I thought." Joey snickered.
"What are ants?" Amelia shouted.
"Very tiny insects that bite people and steal their food," Joey explained.
She laughed. "Glad we don't have those!"
"What's the most annoying creature here?" Joey yelled.
"A toadling. Round insect, six legs, twenty-something eyes. Giant mouth for snatching people's wallets. I like to put them in my enemies' pockets and robes." Amelia laughed.
"Why do you have enemies?" Andy said.
"I'm the second-greatest wizard to ever live! Or, at least, I defeated the second-greatest," Amelia said. "The greatest is the king."
Amelia laughed. "I've been practicing magic for years! My brother's no good at it, but he's a great archer. Never stand in front of his bow when he's mad! I learned that the hard way!"
They landed, right next to a huge mountain. They all climbed off Arrow.
"Go home, boy," Amelia whispered. The droggon took off.
She turned back to face them. "Dangerous place for droggons and just about every other animal. I'm not taking him in here. We'll have to walk the rest of the way, but it's not that far. We just have to walk across the entire continent."
"What?" Andy said, alarmed, just as Toby and Holly pulled up.
They got off the horse-sized land fish. It looked like a fish with horse legs and a long snout.
"Go home," Toby said, as he and Holly jumped down, and the fish-horse was off.
Toby stared up silently at the mountain. Amelia smiled.
"Ready?" She rubbed her hands in anticipation.
"Let's go!" She ran off, Toby, Andy, and Holly running to catch up.
Joey started to follow, but Roxy grabbed his arm.
"How can we trust them?" She asked.
"Stop it. They're kids. And they're willing to help us. They check all the boxes," Joey said.
"We just met them! How could you be so trusting?" Roxy snapped.
"How are you so untrusting? They're just looking for adventure. Like us." Joey nodded at them.
"We're behind. Let's go." Joey didn't want to talk about this anymore. He wanted to go home.
Roxy crossed her arms. "Fine, but unless they prove themselves otherwise, I still think they are not to be trusted."
Joey shrugged.
Amelia stopped and turned up ahead. "Hey, aren't you slowpokes coming? We don't have all day!" She called.
"I'm surprised you don't like her. She's fun. Coming!" Joey called back.
Roxy shook her head. "I brought a pocket knife, so if they even look like they think about attacking us..."
"We'll be fine." Joey ran as fast as he could to get to his friends.
He heard Roxy run after him.
"Glad you could join the party, Joe." Andy snickered. "You too, Rocks."
Roxy glared at him. "Where are we going?"
"This way!" Amelia walked off. Toby ran at her heels.
"What if she's leading us into a death trap?" Roxy hissed.
Andy, Joey, and Holly all groaned.
"When do we stop at the liquor store?" Andy asked.
"There's no alcohol here. You already asked last night," Joey said.
"What? I only have two bottles left! I'll guess I'll save them for when we have a party!" Andy frowned.
Roxy grabbed a bottle out of his white messenger bag and threw it on the ground.
Both Andy and Joey scowled at her.
"That might've hurt the environment!" Joey yelled.
"That was my only beer bottle!" Andy snapped.
"Oh, shut up, both of you! I did you a favor!" Roxy snarled.
"And you do know now that you are wearing a purse, Andy?" Roxy growled.
"It's not a purse, it's a messenger bag!" Andy yelled.
"Man purse!" She yelled back.
"Stop! Let's go! I don't want to be here, I have a bad feeling about this place!" Holly said timidly.
"You have a bad feeling about every place!" Roxy shouted.
"She's ten! Give her a break!" Andy snapped.
"She's right. Let's put this aside and just get going." Joey pointed at the woods on their right, where Amelia and Toby were waiting.
"And they didn't leave us behind, so I think they can be trusted." Joey and his friends walked to Amelia and Toby.
Amelia smiled. "Be careful in here!" Then she disappeared into the woods. Toby reluctantly followed.
With a smile, Joey dived right in.
