Jedis didn't really celebrate birthdays - but still, every year, Cal had always remembered your birthday. He loved seeing the smile on your face when you opened your present, he had taken you to the most awesome places in the universe, you had been looking at the sunrise of your birthday as well as sunset, he had been singing to you and even Greez, during all his complaining of such sentimental lovey-dovey gestures making him sick, Cere often caught him smiling a bit as he listened to Cal sing or you squealing with excitement as you saw your gift.

Cal always made sure to ensure your birthday is the mightiest day of the year, and he succeeded every single time. Even if you were grumpy when you woke up, Cal could always cheer you up. He cared about you, and he had always shown it with little gestures.

You had always stood by him during darkest of his times, you had both been there when Jaro Tapal died, and you both had just tried to survive in the scrapyard, watched Prauf give up his life for you two, you had fought the Second Sister together and made it to the ship and been through the whole thing with him. You had been there for him for every dark moment of his life, never letting him drown into his sadness, always pulling him up, making him believe in himself again.

And the least he could do, was to make you smile as often as he could, and your birthday was the day when he ensured your smile didn't leave your face even when you went to sleep - that was always the best day of the year.

Cere watched as you and Cal sat side by side at the field of Bogano, laughing, Cal's arm draped over your shoulders and she smiled. He knew you two were slowly falling in love. You were Jedis, and Jedis weren't allowed to be in love in order to restrain your feelings so the Dark Side wouldn't tempt you - but maybe love was just what you needed. Cere had seen Cal resist the Dark Side calling to him, and you as well, whereas she had turned to the Dark Side a couple of times. Maybe you would succeed in doing the unlikely opportunity and fall in love and still resist the Dark Side.

And just as she thought that, she saw Cal's hand on your cheek before you two kissed. And she knew that you would thrive together - doing the right thing.

You smiled into the kiss. All Cal's presents were always nice, but this was definitely the best of them all.
