When you fled the Empire just a few weeks ago, after realising you had been lied to all this time by your supervisors, you had found a camp of rebels and settled there after days of negotiation for them to even remotely trust you. You had gotten to know Han Solo after you had admired his ship, and even though it was awkward at first, you had found it easy to spend time with him. Han was funny, smart, charming... you probably had a dumb crush on him, even. You couldn't help it, aside from being the first person who would agree to sit down with you without being surrounded by a dozen soldiers, he really had wormed his way into your heart.
One day, you sat at Millenium Falcon with your dinners, and Han had been more quiet than usual, which had puzzled you.
"Is there something in your mind?" you finally asked, and he shook his head at first, but then sighed.
"Yeah."
You tilted your head curiously as he set down the utensils. He looked at you before turning away slightly, gazing out of the door.
"I care about you, maybe more than I should." Han muttered. "To be honest, I still don't know if I should trust you. But I do." He turned back towards you, eyes locking onto yours again. "It worries me, that's all."
You blinked rapidly at him. Then smiled softly.
"I understand," you whispered, reaching out for his hand and squeezing it lightly between your own. "But trust me when I say I've got nothing but good intentions, I realised how wrong I had been all that time I served for the Empire. My home is here, I want to help people to fight against the tyranny. I know I'm not easy to be trusted, but you're right to believe in me."
Han nodded slowly and then smiled a little, which made butterflies erupt in your stomach. He gently pulled his arm from your grip, but then reached up and placed it around your shoulders, drawing you closer to him.
"I hope I didn't offend you," he said quietly, looking into your eyes once more. You shook your head, smiling softly again.
"No."
You continued your dinner, joking and talking, and moments like these were just the kind you didn't know you needed when you still fought for the Empire. Someone caring about you, someone making your heart flutter. Not treating you as just another soldier.
It would take time to make others trust you too, but you were determined to do so. You'd show your worth, and you'd get other friends too beside Han.
You could do it one day.
