CHAPTER 18

The two grunted as they crawled through the tunnel filled with wires and metal that stuck out of the floor. Quiggold wasn't lying when he said this place wasn't suitable for BB-8.

"Why didn't you stay up there with them? You know? Use your lightsaber to help them out while also making sure they don't backstab us and take BB-8?" Finn asked.

"If anyone found out I was a Jedi, someone would inform the First Order we were here, leading them to us faster. Besides, it's not like they can go anywhere. I can sense a lot of those gangsters onboard the ship." Jaina said with her eyes closed. "A lot more than even they're expecting." She continued. Finn stopped and thought to himself. He knew they could probably still help from here, but he just didn't know how. He had to think. What was the best way to help pirates from a maintenance hall? Wait... he had an idea!

"Hey, Jaina! I know how we can help!" Finn announced, which quickly received a shush from Jaina. "Sorry! I know how we can help!" Finn repeated, whispering this time.

"Let's hear it." Jaina asked.

"This is a maintenance hall right? That means there are fuses down here somewhere." Finn started, and from the look on Jaina's face, he knew he didn't need to finish.

"We could remove the fuses to the blast doors and separate the gangsters from the pirates!" She said in realization, quietly. "Exactly." Finn said.

"Alright, let's see if we can find those fuses." Jaina said. Finn nodded with a smile as they continued crawling through the maintenance halls. Up above, they could hear talking.

"Sounds like they're keeping them busy." Finn said.

"Just keep going. We don't know how long that'll last." Jaina said.

With a nod, Finn kept crawling, cringing at the sight of a few rats scampering ahead of him and disappearing around a corner. While crawling, he couldn't help but think about how ridiculous his day was so far. He rescued a pilot, met a Jedi, and now was on a ship full of pirates. This was not at all how he imagined deserting the First Order would be like. He was honestly not expecting to make it this far. At least now, he had somebody to keep him safe until he found a way to escape from all of it.

Yeah, that was still his plan, running away from everyone. All he had to do was make it to Coruscant, take a transport to the Outer Rim, away from the First Order's reach, and disappear. Joining the Republic was not an option, no. He shook his head. No. If he joined the Republic, that would kind of be the opposite of running away from the First Order. Even if it breaks BB-8 and Jaina's hearts? Finn took a deep breath. He just met them. She's a Jedi and BB-8's a Republic droid whose master is dead all because Finn wouldn't shut up and focus. They're trying to stop people like him from terrorizing the Galaxy. They probably wouldn't care if he ran away. He'd just be a memory they would recall from time to time, but no one of real relevance. No, he's not a hero and never will be. That's what he had to keep telling himself.

A blaster bolt whizzed by Quiggold as he returned fire to the Kanjiclub gangsters. Kix was quickly dealing with them while Reveth and Pru had Bala Tik and his goons in a corner. Maybe this would be easy.

Sidon shouted a warning, pointing down the two previously empty hallways they were using as cover. Now, more gangsters were running towards them from those hallways. Even in the hallways the other crew members were in were swarming with them. In a matter of moments, all of them were surrounded and were forced to drop their blasters.

All of them were forced into the middle, including a frantically beeping BB-8 who was kicked by a Guavian Death Gang member.

"Sorry, Captain." Kix apologized. "We didn't see the reinforcements coming."

Sidon accepted his apology.

"Eh, don't beat yourself up. This was probably gonna happen to us at some point." Quiggold said.

"I just didn't think it would end like this." Reveth said. They all looked up at the two gang leaders walking over, blasters aimed at them.

"Your death will put a smile on our faces, Sidon." Bala Tik said with a smirk.

The pirates closed their eyes and prepared for their demise. They guessed their heists were fun while it lasted. Not that it mattered now.

"Here! I found the fuses!" Finn said in relief. They both quickly crawled over to the wall with the fuses on it.

"Okay... which one do we take out?" Jaina asked.

"I don't know! You're supposed to be the one who knew all about ships!" Finn said in frustration.

"Well, it would be nice if they had labels for things like this so that we would know which fuses to remove!" Jaina exclaimed with aggravation.

Finn had to agree that was a good point, but now was not a good time for this. They had to figure out which fuses shut the blast doors in that hallway, and quickly, because now, they were hearing blaster fire.

Jaina looked at the individual fuses. How could she tell which one shuts the blast doors when they all look exactly the same? At this point, the only thing she could do was take a guess and hope for the best. Maybe the middle right one? She had a good feeling about that one. Yeah, that one had to be it! At least, she hoped so...

Without reluctance, she roughly yanked out the fuse. She heard doors, so that had to be a good sign right?

***

Sidon and his pirates were ready to accept their deaths; it would be quick anyway. That is, until they heard the sound of doors opening and the rathtars roaring.

"I've got a bad feeling about this." Kix said to himself.

***

It was at that moment, Jaina could feel a disturbance in the Force, along with the echoes of distant roaring. "Uh oh..." Jaina said, eyes wide.

"Uh oh what?" Finn asked with concern. The only response he got was a frightened look from Jaina.

"WRONG FUSES..."
