Reylo: A Lost Soul (part 1)

Warning: there is violence in this chapter! If that triggers you or makes you uncomfortable, this story is not for you.

"Stupid girl," Kylo mocked the shriveled girl lying helpless on the cell floor, "You really thought you would board my ship and try to convince me to go with you back to Luke Skywalker?" Kylo Ren stopped and crouched down to meet his face to Rey's. The only thing shielding her from looking into his eyes was the heavy metal mask hiding his face. Her bruised face and busted lip quivered as he stared at her. She could not see his eyes but she could feel him staring into her soul. She was ordered to come here and convince him to return home, but she never imagined it would be this difficult. He was a different man all those months ago, when he removed his helmet and comforted her while interrogating her. Everything was so confusing back then, she felt a connection with him so deep it made her shiver thinking about it now. But now, all she felt was an empty abyss lacking any human emotion.

"Fuck you, coward." Rey spat. Without hesitating Kylo slapped her in the face with a leather gloved hand which left a cold sting on her cheek. Rey did her best not to show pain, but after the beating she received by him only moments earlier, her whole body still stung. He quickly rose and exited the small room she was in. There were no windows and no furniture. It was cold and chilling, the room had nothing but a sliding door leading to a very long corridor. She was not used to the cold and it was not used to her. In agony, Rey leaned into the corner of the wall and began to sob. Why had Luke sent her here? Did he know it would be this hard? The second she boarded his ship she was captured and sedated. Upon awaking she found herself here, in this little slice of hell. Kylo was crouching in the doorway looking straight at her when she awoke. He took no time before punching and kicking her, saying she was a fool for coming here. That she was stupid for believing he would go with her. Rey tried to fight back but was still weak from being sedated, and she simply couldn't bring herself to try. She was stupid though, she thought to herself. Why would she think he cared about her? Why did she think they had some sort of connection?

He stormed from the cell and marched down the hallway holding his head high. The emotionless mask hid the fact that he was anything but emotionless. When Rey was still sedated, he was comforted by the simplicity of her sleep. She had a soft face and stirred none. She seemed like sleep was peaceful for her, unlike him who rarely found peace in sleep. When she awoke, his first thought was to remove his mask and speak with her but the sound of leader smokes voice rung in his ears,

Beat her until she knows she won't be welcome unless she joins us. Only then will she be set free.

In order to avoid confrontation with Snoke, Kylo asked first why she came. She said she was on a mission from Skywalker, to rescue him. The words stung him like burns, he did not need rescuing. Nothing can save your soul after you've sold it to the devil. He proceeded to kick and punch at her waiting for her to fight back, she never did. She continued to cower into the wall and hold her arms in front of her face. He realized beating her gave him no pleasure nor peace. He just felt more angry and confused. He feels regret, but subsides those feelings quickly. He marches on in the hallway until reaching his own quarters.

Bursting through the doors, he can't help but get angry. He doesn't exactly know why but his blood is boiling and he can't get the image of Rey laying helplessly and not even trying to fight back. His chest ached. He wanted to make sure she was okay, he wanted to kiss those bruises. The very thought made him more angry, he threw his helmet off and hurled it at the wall. He left a sufficient dent in the white metal, but he could care less. He sat down onto his bed and sighed into his hands deeply. Why was he so upset, why does he want Rey like that? He was all so confused and he felt so very guilty for ever hurting her. It was like a tidal wave of emotions that was drowning him into an abyss of constant darkness.

Rey's tears eventually stopped falling, most likely from dehydration. She hadn't eaten or drank anything upon her arrival which she assumes had to be over a day ago. She let her head fall back on the cold walls, she could only image the kind of further torture that was sure to ensue. And the interrogations, the first order was still looking for Luke and that means they were going to try and get it from her. Rey reached up to her face and felt blood surrounding a welt on her forehead. She couldn't bring herself to fight back, part of her believed she deserved it. Who did she think she was to arrive here in hopes of curing someone of darkness? A silly and foolish dream, Kylo was right. She was stupid. Curling into a small ball with her legs tucked into her chest, she fell asleep. Luckily she was used to sleeping in small uncomfortable places.

Kylo shivered at the sight of Rey. She was sleeping again, curled into a ball so small it seemed she was trying to hide from the world. Trying to hide from him. Everyone was right, he was doomed from birth to be the kind of monster that beats helpless girls. He again felt agony and sadness looking at the pain he causes Rey. Part of him wanted to scoop her up and carry her to his quarters, where she could sleep in a bed and be safe. Not be a prisoner. But she would be trapped with the person she probably hates the most, himself. He wandered in here, unsure as to why. It was the middle of the night and he could not sleep knowing she could be in pain still. He was pleased to see she found sleep. Foolishly, he came down here in nothing but black underclothing. He didn't think to retrieve his helmet that he threw at the wall. Standing for a moment longer in the doorway, Kylo watched her. He was so distraught and angry ten minutes ago but now that he was here watching her, he felt peace. He felt like he was supposed to be here, watching her. Protecting her. But he didn't protect her, he beat her. How could he do that? Only a monster would do such a thing, Rey was right, he is a monster. He turned from the cell and walked away. He became upset again with every step, but he knew the farther away he was from her, the better it was for her.

She woke up to heavy banging on the door, her first thought was she was being rescued. But she realized the chance of that is slim, she didn't tell anyone where she was going. The door slid open to reveal a tall droid holding a tray of food. If you can even call what that was food. It rolled into the room and Rey pressed herself against the wall without thinking. She was jumping at everything, being beaten can do that to someone. Her body still ached, maybe worse today.

"What is that?" A strong voice rang in her cell and she jumped. Kylo ren had passed the cell and saw it was open. He was on his way to a briefing when he passed her cell. He hadn't slept at all last night from guilt mixed with confusion.

"What?" Rey gulped and her voice squeaked,

"That is not food." He articulated every word which made Rey all the more nervous, "GH679, take that filth and leave." Kylo said gesturing to the tray the droid was still holding. It beeped few times and rolled away. Rey's heart had not stopped beating since the moment she saw him.

"Come with me." Kylo said,

"What?" Rey became scared she was going to be sent to interrogation, or to be tortured even more.

"I will not harm you, as long as you comply." Kylo could sense Rey's fright and felt a pang in his chest. She was afraid of him. He was again reminded of the monster that he was. He stretches his hand down to her and Rey ever so cautiously stared at the black glove. Part of her was afraid, but part of her was comforted when he said she wouldn't be harmed. She didn't know why, but she believed him. She took his hand and attempted to pull herself up, but pain overtook and she screamed out. It hurt too much to move at all. Kylo flinched at her scream and he felt like his heart might just shatter. If he even had a heart.

Before Rey could see what he was doing, he bent down and lifted her into his arms. Bridal style, just like he had so long ago. At first the pain came back, but as he strode out of the cell she no longer hurt.

"Where are we going?" Rey asked cautiously,

"Quiet. I am not allowed to be removing you from your cell, but I will be taking you somewhere you are safe." Kylo responded without looking at her. Although, she could not exactly tell from the helmet he proudly wore atop his head. She became tense as she became increasingly uncomfortable. She was frightened, but she wanted to trust Kylo. Kylo ren sensed this and felt the same pain in his chest.

"Do not worry Rey. I do not want to hurt you, I regret my earlier actions. I- I was a fool." Kylo Ren's voice seemed to break on the was sentence. Rey was surprised at his vulnerability and tried to hide her facial expressions. She felt relaxed and reassured in his arms. She allowed her body to relax and he continued carrying her, swaying with every step. Although she was still afraid, she needed someone for her right now. Even if that someone is the one who hurt her, she was desperate.

He arrived at another heavy, sliding door. This time it was not a cell, she was not his prisoner. This time it was his quarters, the only place that he feels more himself than Kylo Ren. And now, he was letting a girl into the safe haven of his. But she wasn't like any girl, she made him feel something he has not felt in many years.

"These are my quarters, you will stay here now. You are my guest." Kylo Ren spoke the words through the helmet as he set Rey onto the only couch in the room. Rey looked around and saw a couch, a small table, an eating area, a large black bed and a door likely leading to a bathroom. Surprised to hear that he considered her a guest, she stared blankly at his lifeless face.

"Will you do something for me?" Rey asked the cold black mask,

"It depends on the task." Ren replied coldly,

"Take off your helmet. Like you did so long ago." Rey asked remembering the first and only time she saw his face. The day Han Solo died. Ren cocked his head slightly as if deciding if he would comply or not. After a pause, he placed his hands on his helmet and removed it with an agonizingly slow movement. Once removed, Rey got to see the face she attacked that day. His face was the same, mostly. Strikingly handsome with pieces of hair swirling around his cheeks. But now, his right eye has a long pink scar across it. She was taken back at the sight. It was much larger than she had thought it would be.

"The price I pay for attacking someone when I'm down. I was a coward that day." Kylo looked away and sighed,

"No. I-I am sorry. I scarred you're face I-"

"And I beat you senseless. If you'd like, consider us even. Although, I will never come to terms with the way I abused you." Kylo stared blankly into her eyes. Rey was stunned by his sincerity and honesty. She vaguely remembered why she was here. She struggled to remember he was the enemy. She had the sudden urge to sit up and kiss his pink lips, but the pain kept her laying down.

"I must leave now. Please rest Rey. You need to regain your strength. I'm not sure what I will do with you now, but I don't wish to harm you now or ever again. Shower if you'd like, if you need help you can call my droid. The droid can help you but it does not speak. If you would like to call it use this." Kylo handed her a sheet of glass, much to her sunrise when she held it, it lit up with a computer screen. Rey wasn't very familiar with this sort of technology, even after being with the resistance for many months. "I will return. There are clean clothes in my wardrobe. They are mine, but wear whatever you'd like." Kylo spoke softly as if he has afraid he could hurt her again with his words. He swiftly put his helmet back on and strolled squarely to the door.

"Ren." Rey said just before he went out the door,

"Yes?"

"Thank you. I understand what you did, I did the same to you many weeks ago. I forgive you." She attempted to look at him, but it hurt too much to turn her body. She waited a moment before she heard the sliding doors shut behind Kylo Ren.
