Roxy's Heart (part 2/?)
"Abused, a killer...I know everything about you....Roxy Jaxlyn..."
Roxy awoke from the dream with a jump, she quickly looked around her ship and settled down, she was alone. She sighed and pulled out her comm link, thinking about telling Rex, to get some guidance or advice, but she knew what he would say, "Get out of there, come back home." she wasn't ready for that, not this soon.
She got up from her pull-out bed and looked out the window on the door, staring out into the empty, vast, deserts of Tatooine. She really did hate the heat, the sand, the rude people. "I thought I would enjoy being on my own, I miss my family.." She mumbled. Tired of being dragged into her own mind and dark thoughts, Roxy threw on her boots and jacket, and left her ship. After making sure it was locked she began walking towards a Cantina, a drink or two might help ease her unsettled mind and heart.
She walked down the city center, where the market stalls were usually set up, it was all lit dimly by street lamps, it reminded her of the ones on Coruscant. She finally found a Cantina, it didn't seem too bad, but at this time of the morning, she was a bit weary. Feeling the weight of her blasters on her hips, she sighed in relief. Upon entering the establishment, several heads turned to see who walked in, she could pick out a few young bounty hunters, some prostitutes, and a few lowlife's.
She took a seat at the bar and ordered whatever the bartender recommended, when a man came up beside her, "Uh, trust me you don't want sand whiskey, it's called that for a reason." He interjected, "Oh? And what do you recommend then?" Roxy asked, not getting a hostile vibe from him. "Either Corrilian whiskey, or else, the stuff in the blue bottles is a personal favorite." He replied with a smile, Roxy eyed him for a moment, and then ordered a Corillian.
Finally taking a moment, she took in the man's appearance, he was young, late twenties, sandy blond hair, with nice green eyes, dressed in typical Tatooian clothing, a hair taller than herself. She took a sip of her drink, and stared back at the bar, "I suppose I should introduce myself," He began with his accented voice, "My name is Daviin Reid, I'm a travelling market salesman, not very exciting but, it puts bread on the table." He said politely. "You are?"
"Mitch Ragorian..." She used her fake name, it wasn't easy trusting people, so she used her fake name now. "Nice to meet you." He held out his hand, and Roxy shook it with a tight grip. "I can't say I've seen you around, are you new or just passing through?" He asked with innocent politeness, "Just passing through, I don't really know where I'm headed, I just decided one day to get in my ship and do what I wanted." She replied, "Must be nice, just being able to up and leave, I would do anything to get away from my life, it's boring and repetative, and I have to deal with all these people." Daviin explained.
As Roxy was about to reply, a brawl started in a booth behind them. Roxy turned and watched for a moment, it seemed to be a gangster trying to shake down some poor shop owner. "Hey!" she shouted, "Let him go." she stated, confidence coursing through her. "Or what, bitch?" Asked the woman, "Or I'll have to kick your ass until you learn some respect." she replied in a way that made herself seem more like Rex.
The gangster woman dropped the shop owner and approached Roxy, keeping the cold look in her eyes, Roxy regarded her with the same amount of disgust. "Do you know who I am?" asked the woman, the entire cantina went silent, "No, nor I care. But if you're going to take all the money from that man over there, in my presence, I'm going to have to do something about it. I won't let it slip by like the rest of these folks." Roxy replied in a stern voice, the same she'd used when commanding a battalion.
The woman chuckled and threw a punch, Roxy caught it, Daviin looked on in surprise. "Gonna have to try harder than that." Roxy said, and threw a right hook, her fist colliding with the gangsters jaw, knocking her out instantly. Sometimes Roxy forgot she was stronger than a normal person. She went and sat back down by Daviin, and the other patrons of the cantina went back to minding their own business, and the music continued.
"That was amazing! You knocked her out with just one punch!" Daviin gushed, totally impressed, and if he were being honest, a bit intimidated. "Most impressive indeed." Said a voice that seemed like it was going to become familiar for all the wrong reasons. Roxy spun around and saw the assassin. "Kriff." she cursed.
"You just can't stay out of trouble, can you?" He asked, a smirk adorning his features. "How the hell did you find me?" Roxy asked, "That's for me to know, and for you to have to be smart enough to figure it out, sweetheart." he replied with a cockiness in his voice. Roxy grimaced at the use of the pet name. Daviin stood from his place at the bar, "You know this guy, Mitch?" He asked, "Mitch?" the assassin started, "Fake names too? And I thought you couldn't get any lower, Roxy Jaxlyn." he smirked. "And you, I know who you are too, Daviin Reid, there's a decent price on your head, and while I'm no bounty hunter, the extra cash is always appreciated." He stated.
Roxy turned and looked at Daviin, and back to the assassin, "Look, leave him alone, I'm sure whatever he did wasn't all that bad, and you're just an ass! I'll go with you, just leave him alone." Roxy made a comprimise. "...'not that bad'? So theft of auto, and robbing seven thousand credits from a bank isn't that bad? I knew you were scum, but I figured being in the GAR gave you some sense of justice!" He spat.
Daviin drew out his blaster, and the assassin was quick enough and drew his as well, "Best think twice about what you're gonna do here bucko." the assassin said, Roxy cursed under her breath, "Alright! Let's just take this outside. If anyone is gonna get killed I'd rather it not be an innocent bystander!" She yelled, the assassin and the Daviin both looked taken aback by her authority. They nodded, not lowering their blasters, they walked out into the streets. They were completely vacant, seeing as it was only four in the morning.
"Okay, not let's settle this, no one has to get killed here." Roxy tried a new role, the voice of reason.
"Alright, both of you drop your guns, and come with me, and I'll take you into the Empire." "Screw you!" Daviin shouted, "Look, just let Daviin go, and I'll...go with you. You can take me in and get your money." Roxy reasoned. He seemed to think, "Fine, you're coming with me then, Jaxlyn." he called her by her last name.
She walked towards him, when a blaster bolt was fired into the assassins chest, "It was only a stunner, he'll be awake in about ten minutes, so let's run!" Daviin yelled as Roxy whirled around. She took one look back at the assassin, and turned to run with Daviin.
They finally reached her ship, and Roxy sat down on her pull-out, completely breathless. "That was close.." she said, "Are you okay?" she quickly asked, "I'm fine, but thank you for almost giving yourself up for me, that was very noble." he said with honesty in his voice. "You're welcome, but...thanks for saving me, I didn't think there were any decent folk on Tatooine, but I guess I judged too quickly." she replied.
They smiled at each other.
The assassin stood on shaky legs, and was faced with two other assassins, "He wants to talk to you..." said the female one, she held out a hologram of Darth Sidious. "You said you could handle this! I gave you this mission because you were confident in your abilities, and now I'm beginning to think you're a failure." he said coldly. "Your excellence, please, I can do this, I have a tracking device on her, all I need to do is follow it and I'll get her. Give me another chance, please." begged the assassin. "Fine, you have your chance, but not without a little...discipline..." he added.
The other two assassins took their cue, and began to beat him. They left him there, bleeding and bruised.
"So...Roxy huh?" Said Daviin, "yyeaahhh, look it's not easy for me to trust people, but I feel that I can trust you, seeing as you saved my life. My real name is Roxy, and I was a soldier in the GAR back in the day." She explained briefly, "That guy that's after me is an assassin, there's a huge bounty on my head," she added. "The clone wars days? You don't look that old." he seemed confused. "Yeah, I uh, started when I was 14, and then they slowed my aging process, I may only look in my late twenties but I'm pretty sure I'm at least 35 now." replied Roxy.
"That's amazing!" Daviin said in astonishment. "Thanks." muttered Roxy.
The pair stayed chatting until the two suns finally began to rise and Daviin had to leave to open his market stall, "I actually leave Tatooine in a few days, so maybe we should travel together?" He offered, "Maybe." Roxy replied with a nod and a smile. With that, Daviin left, and Roxy watched him as he walked. She smiled to herself, and commed Rex, no answer. "Must be busy." She mumbled and sat down on her pull-out, finally feeling the effects of the stress from earlier, and she lied down and closed her eyes, when she did, she felt uneasy again.
A problem arose as she remembered something the assassin said, "that's for me to know and for you to be smart enough to figure it out." he had said when she asked how he knew where she was, to be fair, he could just be stalking her. She tried to shake the uneasiness to try and manage a few hours of sleep. But sleep didn't visit her, instead her mind was running over scenarios of how he knew where she was, and her mind also flipped to Daviin on occasion.
The assassin, who was still unconscious from the beating, had been robbed by Jawa's and then a few gangsters who had recognized him, grabbed him and took him to a Cantina that they frequented, "This jackass is gonna pay for killing boss, he'll be in for an unpleasant surprise when he wakes up." One of them snickered, the others laughing with her.
